The perfect road cycling shoe

I have a hard time finding cycling shoes that fit me. This is the 4th pair of shoes I have tried in short order, to replace a worn set of Mavic shoes. First I bought the previous generation Giro SLX shoes on sale. These had a good shape, but the upper velcro strap was so short I could not fasten it.

Then I bought a pair of Giro Factors from BTD. These fit me well, but as I was looking for some very light shoes, it was disappointing they weighed a lot more than advertised (290gr vs 240gr, same size as advertised). I would probably have kept them if I could not find something better as the fit was great.

Third I tried a pair of Bont shoes as people have reported they really like those. Those were the worst cycling shoes I have ever tried on, torture devices for my feet.

Finally, I found that BTD now offered the newest SLX II shoes for a great price, same as I had paid for the Factors, and I had to try those as well. And this is the perfect shoe for me! It is as light as advertised, just a hair over 200gr. The fit and comfort is still amazing. Soft leather-like material around the ankles that does not hurt a small bony protrusion (peroneal trochlea)I have on the outside of my ankles and always at the height of most shoes' collars. The SLX II's are just the right width and really stiff soles. I don't mind the velcro instead of a ratchet strap and buckle. It's easy to get the right tension, and I rarely need to adjust while on the bike.

Thanks to BTD for offering this at an unbeatable price!

Great shoe, especially at this price!

Very, very impressed this far, I bought a pair of the Factors when they came out a couple of years ago and thought they were close, but not quite there (fit was not quite right for me, even with the Fit Kit insoles).

The new Prolight, though, seems to have hit it out of the park. Super light, stiff, but with comfortable uppers and great fit. I don't really miss the ratcheting buckle, as the straps are pretty easy to adjust on the fly. Uppers clean up very easily and look great.

One thing that struck me as odd was that the forward strap was stitched to the tongue, causing the sides to be pulled together to the point that the material was starting to pucker, and making fit in the toe box a bit tight. I very carefully removed the stitching and the fit is much better in that area.

Sale price at BTD beat every other online seller, and with VIP points!

Stiff and Light

Wow, these shoes are so stiff and light. Unfortunately, I did not get the use them because one of the cleat plates were loose inside the shoe. I may just wait for the RC9 to be in stock and buy those so they match my XC9. These Prolights are extremely light though and I wish I could justify running both Shimano and Giro

Looks good but tongue slides down

Light weight, looks good. My biggest problem is the tongue slides down into the shoe, it will not stay in place easily. I have to maneuver it around to the side and bend the top over to keep it in place and still have to reach down and pull it out of the shoe multiple times on every ride.

Most comfortable shoe ever

These shoes are light, comfortable and I especially like the Velcro closing more than the ratchet closing available in most other high end shoes. Thank you Bike Tires Direct for the great price for a great shoe.

Great shoes!!!

Like other reviews, these SLX ll are VERY lightweight, stiff and comfortable.

The straps are a bit long when on my feet (or my feet are too narrow)

either way that is my only dislike.

I do like the fact that the heel pads are replaceable, the carbon sole is quite stiff, overall

are very comfortable and light.

After riding a few hundred miles I have no complaints, nor do I really foresee having any.

I am quite happy that I have made this purchase.

BTD has shown excellent customer service, in exchanging

sizes and giving a difference in price (store credit) as there was a reduction after I had made my purchase.

yes they are bright, but they are also excellent shoes!

These are a good deal at BTD, and probably even at full retail are competitively priced, considering where they sit in the hierarchy of high quality racing shoes.

The orange is definitely fluro, like a construction barrier, and will likely mark me out in the peloton (guess I'll just need to break away more often!), but look great with my blacked out Spec. Allez. Fit is great (this is my 2nd pair of GIro shoes) and the insole adjustment setup is outstanding. High to low arches can be accommodated.

Finally, I have no idea if they made me any faster in their shake-down ride, but I do feel that sturdy foot to crank connection that only a well-designed shoe can give you, without the excessive stiffness of some shoe's uppers that can lead to foot fatigue.

All around, great shoe, well worth the $.

Great Product......

Very nice shoe. I need a couple of more rides to break them in a bit more. I have the old version of these and like them a little bit better thus far though. Giro is my new number 1......dropped my sworks! Straps are a bit long....and seem a little more bulky than the old ones. Still great though.

Techlace shoes are great!

I love the Giro Prolight Techlace shoes. They are sooooo light and the velcro tab takes the work out of tying the shoestrings. I did find that the laces were a little long in the middle and top of the shoe for me, but discovered that you can adjust the lace length.

Super light! Super bright!

These are the lightest road shoes I've ever owned. Just one of my other road shoes is still much heavier than a pair of SLX II. Of course Giro gave up the buckle to keep the weight down so you're left with 3 overly long straps. These straps are so super long its not even funny.

I really wished Giro would have put more effort in sizing up the straps correctly so it terminates nice and tidy. Also the placing of the straps are not symmetrical when comparing Left and Right, more of an issue of quality control but one would figure since these are their top model a little more care would be involved.

The uppers are synthetic and feel really supple when using. They have this conform to your foot feel. The ability to choose between 3 arch supports is great.

A comment about the color. If you're thinking about the Fluorescent Orange their color is similar to the hazard cones at construction sites. That deep, bright orange. Yep, thats the color. It will clash with everything you own, but man do they rock!

I've been using these day in and out and the more you wear them the better they get. Would I buy them again, yes. But I would really wish Giro would take a little more care with the quality and length of the straps. Devil is in the details as they say.

Improved version on what was already a great shoe

Love these shoes for the fit. They fit like they where custom made for my feet plus they are crazy lite. They made the stop Velcro strap longer on this version. I have last years version and the strap was just barely long enough to close properly.
