Slick, sticky, fat but not too fat

First impressions - a couple of fair-weather rides under 50 miles.

As with the many Vittoria tubular tires I have ridden before, this tire is true to size (exactly 32mm wide on narrow Fiami Ergal rims). They fit on an old Schwinn Paramount with room to spare. Back in the dark ages (1970s and 1980s) this size tire width was only available from Clement, in silk, each costing a weeks' pay for a bike shop rat, more than the 2020 price for three of these tires.

Already they have performed well enough to earn my top value rating. In order to award five stars overall I have to see how durable they are. A bit of Kevlar in the casing adds weight, but does not seem to produce the mushy feel associated with Kevlar. The recommended 95 pounds feels soft but workable (I weigh 180), they still grip well in corners at 100 and 105psi. At those pressures they feel like clinchers with 90psi.

Not crazy about these tires but

I was looking for a 28mm tire, and these are the only tires BTD that come in tubular. I've had pretty mixed results. The outer tread delaminated from the main casing after about 400 miles. That was on a front tire. I kinda expected to get at least 1500 miles from these tires. I did manage to ride the rear down to the treads, so I guess one out of 2 isn't too bad.
