Reviews
Had used Marathon Plus for many years on a Rover recumbent trike. Biggest issue I had was lack of traction on the rear wheel when on loose cover on hard-pack terrain, or when cutting across an area that may had wet grass or other vegetation. Had sought for a replacement for the rear wheel predominantly.
Searched online and found these cargo bike tires. After confirming the rim could hold a 2.15 width tire I placed an order. Was a bit surprised when the tire had stamped "For crotched type rims only". Searched to find that these rims utilize beaded tires -- Hook Bead Rims. Whew! Maximum load is 400 pounds.
Most of the roads I ride are in a rural area. These roads and their surfaces change drastically. Often have to cross or ride over hard-packed roads, or to cut across small section of vegetation, so needed a better tire that could handle changes of terrain. Also ride on the Weiser River Trail which is a hard pack trail, and at times we travel to paved trails, thus this Pick-Up Cargo and E-Bike Tire was what I sought. Also have a mid-drive.
Friend and I rode up the Weiser River Trail from Starkey Hot Springs, and we debated the switchbacks as this area was quite steep. I put the M625 in 100% mode, and easily rode up the switchbacks. Could feel the Pick Up tire grip the chip seal gravel. And on the way down the older tire would slip, these gripped beyond expectations.
Have not had any issues from goat heads, or any other road debris. The 2.15 inch tire does offer cushioning as well, for being a near-fat-tire for the Rover. Am quite pleased. There is a small rise in height yet no difficulties with size 14 shoes.
Have plans on purchasing two more to install on the front wheels.
Oh, and these tires are a beast to install. The bead is tighter than most, so use sturdy tire tools and be patient. Took three tire tools to get the tire on. Was worth the effort. Huzzah, a highly recommended tire option.
They are a tough good looking tire. My only issue with them is they are hard to center on the rim. I am using them on a Worksman Cycles quad bike and Maybe because of their stiffness, they're not easy to get perfectly centered on rim.
These are really strong, and capable of up to 50 psi as well. I'm a 220 lb rider and often carry up to another 50 lbs or more on my rear rack and in my panniers and these tires really hold up. Makes me feel much more secure zipping around town on my 20' wheel folding ebike that I'm not going to get a blowout or have to repair a flat. I paired them with tubes preloaded with Green Slime.
