Reviews
Case is expensive, but absolutely worth it if you care about your bike or absolutely need your bike to arrive to your destination in good condition. Case designers have thought of everything with this one, but recommend you take the time before your first use to dial in the vertical and horizontal fit for your bike -- bikes over 56cm take some customization, but this case, unlike many, will accommodate larger bikes -- as that will make subsequent packing much, much quicker and easier. Case holds a LOT of gear in addition to the bike, so can easily be your "one bag" travel solution.
Summary: Highly recommend.
This is a quality bag and it includes some thoughtful features to make sure everything is secure a removable stand to lock the bike into, straps to attach to the inside of the bag, and a special harness to wrap around the front of the bike to use for attaching your bars.
The wheels go in pockets on the outside with the disc rotors facing out which feels super risky, but so far so good. There are PVC bars in the pockets and some other sturdy material to protect the wheels, the wheels themselves actually act as protection to the frame in this way.
I will say that one side of the bag (the part that zippers open) is mostly just soft material, so on that side of the bag opposite the wheel pocket, it's pretty flimsy (the front half of the bike). I haven't had any issues yet but something to be aware of.
The removable front wheel makes walking through the airport much easier and overall it's super well made, you just need to be thoughtful about packing right and maybe throwing some extra protection around your frame in spots.
I feel confident my bike is protected when using this bag on flights and easy to transport thru the airport. There is some time needed to assemble before using it, so plan ahead before packing your bike. Great travel bag!
Bought this bag so that I could bring my gravel bike abroad for a 2 week cycling trip. I was pretty worried that my rotor would get bent, since you just put the wheels on the side on the bags. But everything was fine both to and from our destination. Overall great trustworthy bag. The only downside is that it's massive and we had to hire a mini van to fit our two EVOC pro bike bags.
Just finished up my first trip using the Pro bag. Packed up my Ibis Exie in the bag and in total weighed in at 47 pounds with the flat pedals and a few other things in the bag. The bag worked perfectly and I had no damage to the bike or the rotors, which I were particularly concerned about. I did remove the derailleur as it look like the tire may push on it. I have an AXS shifter/derailleur which made it easy. As mentioned, the most difficult part was getting the fiberglass slats in the end of the bag. The bag does need to pulled really straight to allow the slats to slide in all of the way. You can see my review of the bag on my YouTube channel, @halffasthugo. It's a really great bag and the service at BTD is always top shelf!
Great product, very easy and intuitive to assemble and use. Traveled with two bikes (one in the Evoc, the other in a cardboard box-new). The travel bag arrived perfect, the box was completely destroyed and did not protect the derailleur and fork, despite being well packed.
The only negative comment is the weight. Once the bike was in it, it was over the typical weight limit of an airline and had to deal with the airline counter representative about the overweight charge.
I am on my sixth plane trip with the bag, and I love it. Because of limited storage space, this particular bag which can collapse to a much smaller package when not in use, was particularly interesting. But it turns out to be a great bag even outside of this. The inside support for the bike can be taken out to mount the bike which makes the packing super easy and quick. There are many straps inside the case which help secure the bike in place. Whether packing or unpacking after my second trip, I am a pro, it is quick and effective. I did add a couple pieces bubble of wrap to prevent the chain from rubbing against the frame. I also recommend unscrewing the rear derailleur in case something hits on it through the soft side at the airport.
Moving around fromtoin the airport is really easy, the whole package is light (I ride a Specialized Tarmac). Also, the the removable little wheel up-front (and its pocket storage for when you turn over the bag to the handlers at the airport) is awesome.
Very happy with my purchase. This latest model offers some clear advantages to the prior model. Excellent placement of straps and the handle bar is held nicely alway from the top bar with the protectice cover. The bike rack is very helpful - makes the loading very easy and holds the bike very well inside the bag. The deep tire pockets hold the tires very well. All around solid bag which will give you confidence that your bike will arrive good to go!
The bag looks and works great. I've flown with it once, and the bag protected my bike fine. The bike stand, however, needs improvements. The stand bent my rear derailleur which I had to get adjusted and then find a make-shift solution for the flight home.
I bought this bike case before a World Championship race in Europe. This case is light and easy to handle. I had to carry it on a city bus and a train and it was easy to carry. I has a clip on front wheel that works but not as well as some cases with four built in wheels. This is a minor issue. Overall thi bag is a good value.
So far it's seems to be an excellent quality bag, it was a bit of a pain in butt to get the plastic stabilizing rods seated properly in the bag I'm sure other will slide in easy was probably just this bag. I will fly with it to Montana later this week if things don't go well I will update but I don't it will be a problem.
This is a big bag for a road bike but keep in mind it's not a dedicated road bike bag. It's 58 in. long and 33 in. tall. My 54cm tarmac fits with 11 in. to spare behind the frame. Kind of wasted space... Without the seat on the bike you may be able to smash the bag to 30-31" tall to put in a large suv vertical. Lots of handles outside the bag to assist with moving the bag around. Hard cases tend to have no where to grip.
The wheels help to protect the bike, mainly the rear triangle. But the axle of the wheels placed in the wheel compartments is pretty close to putting direct pressure on the seat stays of my 54 cm road bike. Larger and longer wheelbase bikes may not have this issue. Luckily there is a heavy piece of plastic that has some padding between the wheel compartment and the interior to protect and spread the point load from damaging the bike. My wheels came with wheel bags that add 2.5 lbs to my travel weight so that will help add some protection from the seat stays. Not sure I would spend the money for them vs adding additional padding. The brake rotors are to easy to bend and I will take them off to fly even though there is protection.
Many complain the fiberglass reeds are too long and do not fit. They are really hard to slide into the fabric channels on the end of the bag and the problem comes that they need to insert about an inch into the plastic part at the bottom of the bag. If the bag is not pulled tight there will be a slight fold in the fabric at the bottom of the bag where it meets the plastic and you wont be able to fully insert the reed. Also when the reeds bottom out into the plastic it makes the end of the bag extra sturdy. This soft side bag will hold it's shape and stand on it's own once all the reeds are in. This provides extra strength and stability around the fork too.
Haven't flown with the bag yet but it looks like a great option if you have multiple types of bikes. Empty it weighed 22lbs. With bike, helmet, shoes, and zipp wheel bags it weighed 43.5 lbs. Haven't tired a mtb in the bag yet.
Verse the competition contoured soft bag for road bikes I feel this bag adds additional protection from the delicate parts like forks, and rear seat stays that contouring along those parts doesn't. Contouring of the bag does make for a smaller bag but is it worth it???
