Description

Conti's Fastest, Most Reliable Urban Tire Yet

The Continental Grand Prix Urban 700c Tire combines speed with reliability — the two qualities you want in an urban tire. Much like the Continental Grand Prix race line of tires, the urban version has an extremely fast-rolling tread pattern and tacky rubber for excellent performance on the road.

Conti incorporated their proprietary Black Chili Compound into this tire, which grips the road more than almost any other rubber compound on the market. The Black Chili Compound strikes the balance between speed and grip, providing low rolling resistance while still giving the rider control and confidence on the road.

The Grand Prix Urban only comes in a 35mm width, which may seem a little wide for some speedy city slickers, but we assure you that this extra width greatly aids the tire's performance on bumpy roads and the occasional pothole. Urban roads are hardly ever smooth, and the 35mm width absorbs shock but still allows the tire to roll fast.

Finally, this tire delivers the most desirable quality for any urban commuter — puncture resistance. Conti's proprietary PolyX Breaker puncture protection system blocks debris from damaging the inner tube, but it does not add too much weight to the tire.

Features

  • Fast-rolling tread
  • Grippy rubber with Black Chili Compound
  • PolyX Breaker puncture protection system
  • 35mm width for optimal cornering and shock absorbtion
  • 85 max psi
  • Attractive-looking coffee colored sidewalls

A step up for fast touring

These replaced my panaracer's for my increasingly regular fast jaunt through the french countryside. I will typically go 65-100 miles each day with a loaded frame and saddle bag, staying mostly on paved surfaces with the occasional dirt or gravel path. Really liked these tires in a 35c. Big step up from the panaracers (which I actually did like for many reasons) in terms of comfort and speed. Speed in particular was a very noticeable difference giving me a bump of 1.5-2.0 mph on average for this last trip. Great traction regardless of wet or dry. When not paved the terrain was far from knarly, so not much to say there. Easy to mount. No flats over my two week trip. Would absolutely buy again.

Good tires for my Trek Hybrid

I ordered and installed these tires 22 months ago. It is now getting close to replacement time, I dont know the mileage but I am satisfied with the wear. I didnt have any flat tires yet but I did rotate them months ago and the tires were easy to remove and install. I was concerned about the near-absence of tread but have found them to be sure footed.

    They ride great

They are durable and ride great. Pretty tight getting on the DT Swiss wheels that I have, though.

Nice ride quality - virtually no flats

I've had these Conti "GP Urban" tires on my e-bike (a Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0) for over 2,000 miles and no flats so far - which is great considering that much of the riding is on city streets with a lot of glass & debris. For an "urban" type tire they also have a nice ride quality - not a racing tire obviously but definitely better than most commuter tires. Highly recommended.

    Damn fine tires

The compound used in these tires is very nice, making for a plush but responsive ride at the right PSI. They do wear quicker than gator skins but for the comfort and lateral stability, its totally worth it.

I use my bike for commuting and transportation so the bike stays for long-ish periods of time in inclement weather/light conditions. I chalk up my hatred of conti sidewalls to this factor. The sidewalls get crispy or dried out in spots and are so damned sensitive that they look instantly threadbare in patches that scrape curb lips or edges of potholes. Ive been told by mechanics that much of the stringy threading on conti sidewalls is cosmetic; as long as rubber walls are intact on the inner side of the tire, its fine. I havent had a catastrophic failure yet but fingers crossed.

Nice tires for my Felt VR-60: grippy with a very nice ride at about 50 psi

I had 28 mm tires before these (relatively new, then came w the bike this June) but saw a YT video suggesting that wider, lower pressure tires would give a nicer ride. I tried these. The discounts on this site got the tires in a nice price range, and I bought a pair. They went on w/o any issues, and I'm enjoying the ride. The other thing I should add is that these appear to have little rolling resistance: I did a 12 mi ride yesterday through the foothills of the Wasatch Mtns and it was pretty effortless. Incredibly smooth ride.

    Nice and squishy

Nice compromise between speed, comfort and durability. Been using as a commuter and social rides around town. Went over plenty of debris and glass, and somehow resists sticking to the tire despite how soft it feels.
