Reviews
Let me start with the cosmetics - it's a great looking shoe, has robust construction, tough fabrics, and delivers the SiDi flavor in an updated gravel design. Also, the carbon sole is nice and rigid - tread design is superior to SiDi's past XC shoes.
That being said, the shoe does present some disappointments that I'm removing a star or two for.
I knew before buying these that the Aeron has SiDi's new "Millennium Sizing" which indicates a roomier toe box. Unfortunately, it's much more than toe box room - it's the entire shoe. It really threw me off. I have worn SiDi forever in a size 43EU; currently wear the Wire2S for road in that size. I purchased these Aeron shoes in 43EU and they were way too big. Returned them for the 42EU which fit well.
What was baffling was the sizes on the box for both Wire2S and Aeron:
The EU/US sizes on the Wire 2S shoe box: EU 43 / US 8.8
The EU/US sizes on the Aeron shoe box: EU 42 / US 9
The size inconsistency is frustrating - so be sure to try them on - or just order one size down if you already wear SiDi shoes without the "Millennium Sizing". I'm not sure what SiDi was thinking here.
The NUUN dials are slightly easier to work with than Tecno-3, but anodized aluminum was a bad choice. Since there's no indicator for what direction to close them (touch or visual) - once opened if you close them the wrong way they nick the aluminum. Already have a few small marks that expose the raw aluminum silver color. For this price point I expect higher quality materials for this closure system.
Last but not least, the locked-in feeling and heel support I've historically gotten from Sidi shoes is just not present in this shoe. Particularly the Aeron's heel cup; it's not sufficient. The tongue padding I'm used to on SiDi shoes is almost nonexistent in the Aeron, which is a concern for long rides. The Wire2S has a superior feel and fit - and the Aeron should be delivering that as gravel shoe. It unfortunately does not.
