Description

Shimano enters into road hydraulic disc brakes with their BR-R785 brake caliper. It combats the extreme heat that road cycling creates for brake systems by using their ICE Technologies radiator-fin pads, and oversized 22 mm ceramic pistons that prevents the heat caused under braking from spreading through the the caliper and disrupting the system.

These calipers are compatible with hydraulic Di2 levers and are designed for 140 or 160 mm rotors.

Claimed weight: 262 g. Price is per caliper.

Br-rs785 road caliber

This is the only Shimano road caliber for a post mount configuration. It is a hydraulic caliber that can be used on any Shimano hydraulic levers. The downside is bulky and may interfere with e spokes on the wheels.

Big step forward, go for it.

First of all, I hate brake fluid. I have spent hours and hours bleeding auto systems. I'm not looking forward to dealing with these when the time comes. HOWEVER these simply work so much better than rim breaks there is no real conversation to be had about disc vs. rim brakes. Rim brakes are on the way out. Your next bike will have discs. These came stock on my 2016 Tarmac (140mm, 16.7 pound 56cm with flat kit). Remember what it was like when you got a mountain bike with disc brakes? Superior stopping, true one finger control. Brakes are the only real safety feature you have on your bike, why would you not want the best - because it is forbidden for the pros? I think that has more to do with Campy's lack of a road disc system at this time. Stopping from 35 or 40 mph abruptly is no longer a spine chilling event. Honestly, you start watching races differently as in, 'if they had better brakes that would not have happened'. You will find yourself braking and drinking at the same time. You would never do that with rim stops. My previous groupo was DuraAce.

Excellent performance great price

I'm new to the disc brake game, but these were surprisingly easy to install after watching a couple of videos online. Excellent performance thus far in the wet Seattle fall weather. Would certainly buy again.

Great brakes, easy installation

I upgraded from 140s to 160s with these on my Giant Defy road bike for a little extra stopping power. I needed to get an extra 20mm adapter to fit since the Defy was built for 140s but once installed these brakes fit like a charm. Hydraulic bleeding is a little complicated for the novice but if you have experience with them then all you need is a standard road bleed kit to make it work. Everything worked nicely here and my bike's stopping is much improved.
