The Pearl Izumi Amfib Lite Balaclava is effective wind and cold protection, but I found it to be too dense in the over the nose section. Breathing was an arduous process through the fabric. It performed well over the rest of the covered areas of the balaclava.
I commute year round in the Chicago area so I tend to use cold protection gear a lot. I like this balaclava for milder fall and spring but it won't stand up to winter weather. I have a thicker one I use when the temperature dips into the 20's but this ones adequate for the 30's. It is a little lighter material than I was looking for and the fit's a little looser than expected but it still works for me.
