Ksyrium has always represented the best of aluminum wheel technology. Following in the footsteps of the venerable Ksyrium Elite and Ksyrium Pro, the all-new Ksyrium SL takes it to the next level. It's the perfect all-rounder for those seeking a wheel that delivers reliable everyday performance on the road.
This new wheel is lightweight and durable as ever thanks to Mavic's patented ISM4D technology. This manufacturing process removes all excess material between each spoke hole while keeping the rim wall thick enough where spoke tension and stress is the highest. The double-butted spokes further reduce weight while making the wheel more responsive. These spokes also have a patented elliptical shape that can save 5 watts for added efficiency.
Stiffness is optimized using Fore technology. The upper bridge is not drilled, so it remains strong and rigid and doesn't require the use of a rim tape (another 30g saved per rim). The rim bed's new shape makes it easier than ever to mount and remove tires, and UST Tubeless technology improves rolling resistance and grip while reducing the risk of punctures. Mvic's new Infinity hub platform optimizes stiffness and power transfer with highly controlled spoke tension, while the Instant Drive 360 freewheel coupled with automatic bearing preload adjustment (QRM Auto) delivers fast engagement and durability.

I've had a couple of Mavic Ksyrium wheel sets in the past but it's been a few years. They're lightweight and sturdy and, as an alloy wheel, the braking is good with rim brakes. It may be that I'm more aware now, but it seems that the quality has slipped. I'm specifically referring to the weld where the rim is joined. It's not very refined. The edge of the rim is not even in that area, it flares up a bit, and the weld is hidden with tape in the channel and a sticker on the spoke side. I purchased them at a good price so I suppose I can't be too picky, but I was a little disappointed to see that. Even so, they should work fine and I expect them to be durable. I bought them for a specific purpose and I'll be using them.
