Description
Time to Take the Road Less Traveled
The Easton EA70 AX Alloy Handlebar features a 16-degree flare at the drops for better stability when riding on gravel, dirt, and other rough terrain. Its ergonomic top profile and 80 mm reach come directly from Easton's Maximum Contact Drop road bars for superior comfort.
AX, however, turns up the MCD flare: from 4° to 16°. Why 16°? Based on extensive testing and rider feedback they determined that 16° was the perfect balance of maximum bar flare which still allowed for efficient access to the shifters and brakes in both the hoods and drops. The wider stance in the drops provides more control on gnarly terrain and long gravel assaults.
Features:
- EA70 alloy construction with Taperwall™ technology
- 16° flare
- 80mm reach
- 120mm drop
- Drops measure 68mm wider than hoods
- Claimed weight is 290 g (42 cm)
- Di2 Compatible (though it does NOT support bar end junctions or full internal routing.)

Reviews
I was looking for a handlebar that had a long enough center section to run some in-line brakes on my X-Fire that i have generally used as a trail bike. Long before Gravel bikes made the scene i have been using Cyclocross bikes to trail ride. i bought a pair of these bars, one for my geared and one for my single speed X-Fires. They are comfortable, dampen fairly well and well within my budget. I run carbon bars on my road bikes and mtn bikes, but found myself not wanting to spend a lot of money for two sets of bars. This bar is a great bar if you are on a budget and not too hung up on having to have carbon. Flare is not excessive and the reach and drop are comfortable.
My bike came with bars that just quite didn't work for me so I decided to swap over to some 42's and am thoroughly pleased with the quality and bar shape. The flare and reach are very usable with my large mitts
I love this bar! I put it on a SuperX that is mainly seeing road use. My preferred position is a little narrow on the hoods (think hammering hard with elbows bent to 90), but has a great, comfortable option for the drops a little wider. The bend on the drops is perfect (I've felt Easton has this shape nailed on all their drop bars) as you're never too far away from your levers. It's a banger value too.
Great price point on great bars for a gravel bike - my wife and I both have these on our gravel bikes and find them to be extremely comfortable. My wife has the 44 cm bars and I have the 46 cm. I love the width on my bars and could ride all day on the tops, hoods, and drops. The flare is not very noticeable visually, but noticeable in how comfortable it is to ride in the drops. These are perfect for me and I'm riding gravel roads, single track, and pavement.
I really like the bend in this bar at the levers, its not too aggressive like others, but it seems to be a happy medium. I had a Ritchey Evomax 12 degree bar before, this one is 16 degree I believe is a middle ground between the wider 20 and 24 degree bars out there. Also, the blacked out look is classy, and matches other Easton AX products like their AX70 wheels (which are really nice also for the money). I went with a 44mm bar instead of my standard 42 for road bikes, and it seems to be a good width, I could probably go 46mm but I do at least 50% road riding, so too wide is often a bit hard to handle at times on the road, plus it turns your body into a giant wind block, at least it feels that way. Get carbon if you can afford it, but the aluminum is good for me, especially if your rough at all with bars off road, just use cushion tape and gel pads if necessary (my hands get numb on long rides).
