Bringing hydraulic brakes under their own roof, SRAM's Guide RS Hydraulic Disc Brake offers a great upgrade for Trail or All Mountain use.
For the Guide RS, SRAM adopted a cup seal and timing port design for its master cylinder as can be found on most other hydraulic brakes. What sets their design apart though are the timing ports, which are placed to limit the likelihood of air bubbles entering the system even when the bike is inverted.
Another highlight of these hydraulic disc brakes is SRAM's SwingLink cam which requires less lever movement to engage the rotor while still allowing for modulation. This uniquely designed cam eliminates what SRAM calls "on/off brake feel" and provides the ideal balance of power and precision.
Combine these innovations with a proven four piston caliper borrowed from the Avid brake line and you have a hydraulic braking system that provides the performance that you need to push harder and ride better.
The Guide RS Hydraulic Disc Brake is available in Front and Rear versions with 950mm and 1800mm of hose respectively. Compatible with Avid Bleed Kits. DOT 5.1 hydraulic fluid. Rotor sold separately.

Plunger Sticks - Warranty Issue
When it works, it works great. Unfortunately there is a well documented quality issue (search 'SRAM RS Sticking') with the plastic plunger that swells when the temperatures get high, and possibly made worse after exposure to the brake fluid, that then makes the brake stuck. SRAM-Avid has redesigned the plunger, and supposedly will replace under warranty (waiting to see if BikeTiresDirect can assist with that). There are, however, reports that even the new design RSC model has the same issue. SRAM would do well to document this issue and provide guidance to their customers as to what part needs to be replaced as well as covering costs for parts and labor to fix. IMHO this should be a recall.
