Building on its revolutionary 25mm-wide Jet Plus aluminum rim, HED spent hundreds of hours testing and refining a new braking surface, called Turbine Braking Technology.
With special machining and anodizing, the result is a super clean all-black appearance and outstanding brake performance.
How great is it? How about 25% shorter stopping distances in dry conditions, or 70% shorter stopping distances in wet conditions.
Additionally, the consistency of stopping distances has improved by nearly a factor of five. That's not a typo.
HED's all-black alloy rim and carbon cap give you all of the cool factor and none of the safety compromises of rim brake carbon clinchers. No melted rims. No tire and tube failures - only true speed.

I was searching for an aero wheelset for my rim brake bike build, a 2009 Giant TCR Advanced SL, and HED wheels were the best option by far. When it comes to rim brake aero wheels, HED stands out as the best choice. They undergo rigorous aero testing, provide excellent customer service, and feature a black aluminum brake track that offers braking performance comparable to disc brakes. While they are slightly heavier than all-carbon wheel sets (these have a carbon faring over an aluminum rim), I believe the brake track and optimized aerodynamics compensate for this in my opinion. Additionally, the 60mm depth of the wheels is surprisingly stable in crosswinds. Initially, I was considering the slightly shallower version, but I'm glad I opted for the 60mm. One unexpected aspect is the slight noise they produce due to the carbon faring. When you encounter obstacles like rocks, you can hear a distinct pinging and echoing sound. Despite this minor inconvenience, these wheels are truly exceptional.
I've owned a pair for 5+ years. Stopped by the Hed factory and spoke to personnel for detailed information, and bought a set shortly afterward. The Hed tech recommended the RC6s vs the RC4s for overall speed, and they still are very controllable in crosswinds. My speeds increase when I ride this set of wheels. They handle great with the wider rims and corresponding wider tires (25mm usually). I love the stopping power of the rims-I use SwissStop BXP pads. People comment on the sound they make during riding, and also the turbine sound when stopping. Highly recommend.
