Reviews
Im assuming youre aware this tape is quite thick at 3mm.
In terms of application and feel, its by far the best tape Ive used.
Stretches. Easy to wrap. Crazy long.
Its a little bit tacky but not too much. Its perfectly textured in my opinion if youre wanting something with some grooves/texture.
Thicker bar tape, easy to apply. Has a spongy, tacky property to it that is very satisfying to grip. Cannot attest to its waterproof gripping properties in rain since i dont make a habit of riding in rain. Plugs are basic nothing special or colorful, and if you are into lower profile thinner lighter bar tape this one is not for you.
After using 2.5mil Lizardskin on my road bike, thought I'd give Enve tape a try (after product reviews finally started showing up online). I have Enve bars on my road and gravel bikes, and own a set of their wheels as well.
Enve Bar tape Pros: easy installation & they provide a generous length of each roll...surely enough for wider bars. Tape is good quality and seems rugged.
I logged a few hundred miles on the tape, but missed the Lizard skin experience...particularly how the grooves in the pattern provide more tactile response. While I like the stickiness of the Enve tape, it has a very smooth exterior. If you happen to be a golfer, think "tour wrap" grips. I do ride with gloves, and felt the 3mil Enve unnecessarily thick for road use. That combined with the smooth exterior did not provide the feedback I was accustomed to.
It certainly is a quality product and YMMV. Tape choice can be a personal thing.
(rather than go right back to Lizard skin, I decided to give Supacaz a try- as the characteristics seem similar)
This tape is a nice compromise between soft/comfortable and thin/better control. It is very grippy which is definitely huge. I used it to replace the worn out tape on my Cannondale Synapse gravel bike. I ride about 3,500 miles/year. Overall, I like the Cannondale OEM tape slightly better, but both are really quite good.
Note: I tried a $20 bar tape for a year, picked randomly from a bike store rack. It was no good at all -- little cushion, minimal grip. A total waste of money. I was glad that it wore out after a year because that gave me the motivation to find a good tape.
As an aside, this is the first time I replaced tape by myself. Actually I had a second pair of hands helping, which turned out to be a very good idea. I watched several videos in preparation - the Park Tool video was clearly the best because it explained the three different ways to wrap around the brake levers. I'm very pleased with the results. Later, I removed the tape to install the Italian Road Bike Mirror. Reinstalling the tape was quite easy.
Wrapping my bars with this tape was a genuine pleasure, this stuff stretches nicely, stays in place and is very pliable - the figure eight technique around the hoods was so easy and the finishing tape is excellent. As others have mentioned there is a ridiculous amount of tape, I did a fairly generous overlap on 44cm deep drop bars and still had way more than I needed. I was using Fabric Hex Duo (not the most durable) and thought that was the best out there until I tried ENVE's tape, this is exactly the feel I was looking for without realizing it. The squishiness and grip are just perfect in my opinion, I don't ride in wet conditions often it has been fine for me with sweaty hands. It's funny because when I felt the tape before it was on my bars I wasn't that impressed, I honestly didn't think it would be as grippy and soft while still feeling like it might actually be durable. I'm really hoping this tape lasts a while since it is quite expensive especially considering the end plugs are the most basic kind, I would like to have seen the same that Supacaz or Fabric include with theirs but I didn't feel like that was enough to deduct a star from my rating.
I swapped out my alloy gravel bars for the Enve G series carbon gravel bars. They were just enough longer that I wasn't able to re-use my bar tape. I decided to give the Enve bar tape a try and have been really happy with the purchase. The tape was plenty long enough, and much more grippy than what came on my bike originally. The tape looks really sleek as well. You can wrap it one of two different ways, with either the small Enve logo or the large Enve logo showing. I've tried multiple bar tape on my various bikes and I'm super happy with the Enve tape and will be using this again when it's ready for replacement.
I can't speak to durability, but the feel is great. I had lizard tape previously and this feels better to my liking. It's cushioned but not squishy. Props to Enve. The finishing tape on one bar immediately started coming off after install, and Enve sent an entire new set of bar tape.
Installing was great. The tape has a perfect stretch to it as well as a nice grip. so far 5 stars for installation ease, looks, and feel. I haven't used it before so no telling on longevity just yet. But so far I'm loving it.
This Enve bar tape works. It's effective in reducing rattles from chip seal rides, it's nice and grippy, it comes in a length that lets you decide how far up the bars you would like to go.
I have tried many bar tapes and my biggest complaint is usually due to the amount of slipperiness achieved from rain, or sweat. This tape is better than the lizard skin I tried most recently. Unfortunately last no glove ride I did, the tape began to approach an uncomfortable loss of grip. The tape only covers in boring colors, no wild colorways if you are trying to make a statement.
Why I probably will give it a second shot later is in addition to cushion, dry grip, generous allotment, is the tape is much better at letting go of and hiding grease for those days where your chain requires maintenance mid ride and you don't have gloves. My lizard skins started red and after a couple tire changes were a significantly drabber black red. I know, my mistake but no amount of dawn soap would hide my transgressions. These guys let go of stains much more readily.
Give these a try you probably won't regret it, but you may miss the curb appeal of oil slick color schemes that seem to be popping up all over.
I've tried many handle bar tapes on my bikes, during more than three decades of cycling. This tape is above and beyond the best. I love the grip, wet or dry. It doesn't fade, it doesn't sag, and doesn't leave bad odors from sweat if I don't wash the bike right away. I know it is a bit expensive, but most of the tapes now a days are close are about the same price. Every time I use the bike, the tape feels fresh and new. Won't be changing brands any time soon. All my bikes have it now.
High-quality, durable, easy to wrap, comfortable, and looks good. Tried it on a whim and now have it on all my bikes. I don't wear gloves when I ride and this is easily my favorite tape after using many (lizard skins, fizik, fabric, cinelli, deda, etc.)
I had this put on a new build in May... and it's already started delaminating. This is from dry weather riding, mostly without gloves and is definitely the the shortest lifespan bar tape I've ever had.
Enve bar tape is the best bar tape I have ever used: It is thick (3mm) and cushy. It is also extra long( 250 cm) which makes for a hassle free installation. It may be expensive however it is worth the premium price.
This is great bar tape. Grippy , even in the wet. Nice amount of gel cushioning but not too fat or squishy.
Can be re-applied without drama ( no adhesive to work at removing ).
Lays flat without the annoying ridges some tapes have.
Too expensive, just like all high end bar tape.
