My ears get cold in the fall when the temp dips down into 40s, same issues in the spring. Cold enough to want some protection, but not cold enough for full-head covering. I tried various solutions but nothing satisfactory.
I hesitated to buy this, because I thought it might be too thick, and I have some allergy issues with wool. But it PERFECT for the transitional months! Not too thick for my normal-weather helmet, and covers the ears just right. I just don't see how you would be disappointed if you are shopping for a head warmer before the temp dips down to freezing. Buy it on sale if you can, but it is worth full-price.
BOTTOM LINE indispensible for transitional months, low 40s to 50s, highest recommendation

Light-weight wool hat that easily fits under the helmet. Sides can pull down to over ears, or not. Perfect for winter days here in Bend, OR, temps 30-45F.

Great hat. Not too thick. At first the flaps didn't cover my ears but now it is broken in the coverage is great. (the hat stretched some but not in a bad way) Would give 5 stars if the visor were a touch longer to block snow flakes better. A style'n hat with or without helmet...even on my pointy noggin.

Got it on sale and it has become my go to hat under both my road and mtn bike helmets.

I prefer the loose comfortable fit feel of 100 %wool
it allows sweat to evaporate winter or summer
polyester ... not for me , a better hat without it
the Giro without the liner is almost as good
as the Swobo 100% wool some might like the
feel of polyester grip to a bald sweaty head
the stock Giro is perfect if you do , if not
try to carefully remove the polyester trim with scissors

I've been wearing this cap religiously for several months now and love how it warms my head without messing the fit of my helmet. Ear and back-neck coverage is superb, and the slightly large brim helps keep rain/drizzle/sleet from flying straight down into your eyelids. Lastly, the materials appear to have some good anti-microbial properties, I can wear this cap several days in a row without washing and it never smells like it belongs in the biohazard bin.

This proved to be a great winter cap despite the high cost, but after less than a couple of weeks the bill started to deform. The cap itself is still warm, but it looks pretty frumpy.

It's not cold yet but I'm confident my head will be well protected from the cold when the weather does turn. Good design, fit, and quality.

Giro got a winter hat right! Fits very well under helmet and has a perfect visor, large enough to shield eyes from snow and rain but not too large to obscure vision when in the drops.I like this better than other hats I have from Ibex and Rapha. It is not meant for real cold temperatures, though. Works well into the high 20s, after that I turn back to my Rapha merino hat.

Great hat, I've been using it daily and it keeps my ears toasty and my melon dry. My order arrived the day after I placed it.

I feel like Goldilocks, I found just the right cap..this keeps my head warm, but not too overheated. The bill is not too big or small, edge flap folds down and keeps your ears warm, but also folds up.

I love the look and fit of this cap. It's not super warm but just right for near freezing riding.

This is a great cap for cold-weather cycling. It fits nice and snug around the ears, unlike a different brand skullcap I have. The washing instructions say to hand wash, but I went ahead and machine washed it on gentle in cold water, and it came out just fine.

I wanted a cap to keep my head warm both in or out of my helmet. I search a while for a wool cap and this was the only one I found. This cap was exactly what I needed. The wool keeps my head warm, wicks well, and it thin enough to fit comfortably in my helmet. When I take my helmet off it is very stylish. The wool seems to be of excellent quality and it doesn't smell like other non-wool caps. I love this cap so much I will probably get a few more before this winter is over. I haven't tried it but with the thinness of this material I think I can probably wear it all year long. From my experience with other wool products, wool wicks well and doesn't heat up in warm temperatures.

The material is a little thin so initially I was skeptical, but the cap is actually quite warm. Would recommend it as a winter cap for sure. Nice product!

Ok so not a toque, but a great under helmet chapeau. The fact that it's wool and not some weird synthetic that will get stinky after worn for 5 minutes is great. Fit is good and slips under a helmet no problem. All hail the sheep!
