Shimano set out to bring their pro-proven performance that riders expect from the Dura Ace series to their Ultegra groupset at an affordable price. The Shimano Ultegra FD-R8000-F Braze On Front Derailleur features all of the features of the Dura Ace 9100 series with only minimal weight difference. Featuring the new link construction, this front derailleur provides a significantly lighter shift operation that matches the force curve of the hand more naturally, reducing the effort required for a shift. With the new Link construction, the FD-R8000-F allows for more flexible cable routing design, making it easier to set up and maintain than ever. Designed with ease of use in mind, the FD-R8000-F allows for tool-free adjustment and integrated cable tension setting without the need of specialized tools. The FD-R8000 was also redesigned to perform better with disc-specific frames, fitting wider gear pitch without sacrificing shift quality.

This Ultegra FD-R8000-F Braze On Front Derailleur is only compatible with braze on compatible frames. The unit comes with a curved frame plate for secure installation. I upgraded from integration 6800 to 8000 when my old 6800 FD broke.
It was a great decision. The 8000 is so much more adjustable and manages the cable. Instead of having to fix the the cable just right to keep it from rubbing on your tire, the new model has a plastic cap which routes the cable backwards in a reliable way.
The auto tension is the other big change. After fixing the cable you tune up the cable tightness with a few turns of an Allen key. So much easier.
The Shimano Ultegra R8000 Front Derailleur is great. Performance is smooth, fast, and reliable. Most important: it is affordable. Paired with a well maintained chain and chainrings, the FD-R8000 never misses any up & downs. It moves flawlessly and quietly. Compared to its new electronic version, it is half the price. I was glad BTD had it in stock during the worst times of supply chain issues, the price was better than other stores, shipping was fast and trackable, and I could earn points for future purchases.
This is by far the best front derailleur I've ever used. Shifts are lightening fast, silky smooth, and absolutely reliable. It was a little tricky to cable -- after passing through the pinch bolt, the cable wraps around the front of the housing then passes through the protective cap and back toward the rear wheel -- but once I figured out the cabling and adjusted the stops, it works great. Shifting is effortless and precise, and the price was very reasonable given the derailleur's quality. I highly recommend this derailleur. Get it -- you won't regret it!
