Good replacement for Freerider Contact
Insole is identical to footbed in Livewire at 301mm long by 102mm wide for a size 12. Slightly lower profile/volume which allows me to use the stock insole with the narrower and less adjustable lace arrangement. Throat is also smaller. As grippy as a Contact in dry conditions--not much precipitation here. Midsole could be stiffer, but more substantial insoles help this, if one can fit them. I have them in Livewire, which are better for hard landings with the stiffer midsole. About a D width, I'd guess. 34.4 ounces for the pair, compared to 30oz for Contacts with worn outsoles. A wider, flatter lace maintains tension better during lacing and holds foot in place more firmly when riding--yes, salvaged from a worn pair of Contacts. The extra mm of length is nice for hard landings when toes move forward. More breathable than Livewire, as claimed. Got on closeout; newest iteration may differ

Capable from commuting to crushing trails
From first trying the Hellion Elite shoes on, I could tell they were special. (I am 5'9" 150lbs and wear a size M9.5) The fitment was spot-on, plus felt quite secure and stable. This dialed fit and firm yet not-too-stiff shank led to better pedaling efficiency than expected. Equally suited to walking through the grocery store and putting in epic miles in the forest. Materials used in the upper are rigid to protect our fragile feet from toe-strikes and trail debris. Generally using skate-style shoes previously, the Hellion Elite was a huge upgrade. Most of my time with these has been commuting and riding to errands around town with some singletrack trails mixed in. The style is sporty yet civilian and I got a compliment on their appearance recently. My only reason for a 4-star review is that the styling could be improved, in my opinion. The RC logo looks okay but I might prefer something more subtle for my use. The combination of Ride Concepts Hellion Elite and 45Nrth Heiruspecs flat pedals is a surefooted match made in heaven. I would absolutely recommend these shoes to a biking buddy!
