Developed and tested using Turbulent Aero technology, the Reserve 42|49 TA (DT Swiss 240) is designed for everything you do, providing all-day capability with aerodynamic sensibilities. Raced at events as varied as the Paris-Roubaix and the Giro D'Italia, the 42|49 wheels have a lifetime warranty supported by a no-fault crash replacement. And in keeping with Reserve workmanlike ways, you'll find external nipples, standard spokes, no tire limitations with a semi-hooked design and no rider weight limits.

- Wind Tunnel Tested - The life of a wheelset like the new Reserve 42|49 begins with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), with the goal of maximizing aerodynamics while enhancing stability. Reserve's exclusive wind-tunnel testing then provides data that is focused on simulating real-world air flow, allowing confirmation of performance targets in a sterile and controlled environment. In the end, Reserve has created one of the most stable and aerodynamic wheelsets to date.
- Strong AND Light - Optimizing the strength and weight of these rims in an exhaustive effort and it all starts at their California composites lab located in Santa Cruz. Not only do Reserve develop the carbon fiber layup, but also a proprietary test protocol to mimic real-world impacts and spoke pull outs on wheels. As a result, they can define the exact fiber orientation for each rim model to maximize stiffness and strength.
- Lifetime support - It's annoying to miss a day of riding, especially when it's because of an equipment problem. Reserve was the first company to offer a lifetime warranty on carbon wheels, and they extend this warranty to any and every Reserve product.
- DT Swiss 240 - Direct power transmission in every riding situation with Ratchet EXP 36.

I eventually got these when they went on a sale after months of research. Compared to most other established brands out there these are some of the widest, in terms of internal width. With no system limit and steel spokes they are built like wheels for gravel although they are advertised for road use. Great lifetime warranty from Reserve and class leading cross wind stability. You can definitely get much lighter and cheaper wheels (even deeper) from the DTC brands these days but they usually have more restrictive system limits, use carbon spokes, and don't provide similar warranty. I think they are a great alternative to the Roval CLX III, much cheaper while being about the same weight (especially if you compare the DT180 hub variant) and as a bonus using easy to source and replace steel spokes. And they fit great on a Tarmac SL8.
