The new GP4000 S II really does deliver on all fronts, combining speed and amazing handling with impressive puncture resistance and extended tread life. Just like the original GP 4000 S, this is one of the fastest, most durable, and best-riding tires available. In fact, it's even better—Conti claims that thanks to continued R & D, they're able to improve the venerable Black Chili compound by 3-4% every year, so the new model has even better adhesion in wet and dry conditions, better durability, and lower rolling resistance.

For those not clued into Black Chili, this is the lingo Conti uses for their top rubber. As the name implies, it can only be made in black—hence this tire's all-black center tread. In a nutshell, Black Chili is an incredibly dense rubber, made up of particles roughly ten times smaller than those typically used in bike tires. Placing this wonder compound directly at the contact patch results in a tire that's not only more durable, but more able to conform to (grip) the road. It's also more resistant to UV rays, helping it to resist cracking and premature tire wear. Add colorful sidewall options to the mix and you've got the best of both worlds, performance and style.

The tire also features Conti's patented Vectran puncture protection barrier underneath the tread. Originally developed by NASA in the construction of space shuttles and suits, Vectran is a tough but lightweight material that allows Conti to keep their tires extremely light while providing tremendous puncture protection.

The Grand Prix 4000 S II features a three-ply 330 TPI casing. Kevlar folding bead. Max inflation is 120 PSI. Claimed weight is 205 grams (700c x 23mm)

Conti GP 4000 S II is the Mercedes Benz of bike racing/distance tires

I have been a steadfast customer of Conti Grand Prix 4000 series bike tires for nearly 7 years and without doubt they are premium materials and construction. They've outperformed Michelin and Bontrager tires.

The Conti durability and traction are simply superb compared to competitors. Excellent traction in all-weather conditions (for a racing/distance tire) and only a rare puncture over 3-4K miles of riding per set. Their puncture-resistant design is the gold standard for those desiring near-zero downtime because of popped tires/tubes.

A silky smooth ride at 110-120 psi pressurization and solid traction in hi-speed maneuvering.

Wear pattern is consistent and smooth around the circumference with no defects - this is for 6 sets of tires covering nearly 7 years and 25K miles accumulated.

Consistently Bike Tires Direct has the best sale prices for Conti GP 4000's - you just have to monitor their site

These tires are fantastic changed to the 25mm tire I have been grabbing KOM's since the change!!!

Last summer I rode the Conti GP 4000 25mm tires and they lasted for ever (4000)mi. I changed them out to see if I was missing on the sprints because of the slight extra weight. I switched to the new GP 4000 2 which road very smooth and handled very good. Now I have just switched back to the 25mm in the new version and they are so smooth the bumps are easier the high speed cornering feels so secure. I'm flying without seeming like I'm putting in the effort. Because they handle so good you can fly with much more confidence. Second day on them and I just topped my best top speed on a little hill by hitting a hair under 47mph my old best was just under 44 mph. Day before I collected 3 KOM's on strava.

This has been my tire of choise for years

I have been riding the Grand Prix tire since the mid 90s. There have been several iterations along the way with the current execution being the best yet. I believe the packaging for these makes mention of the fact that Continental is constantly working to improve the rubber compound to decrease rolling resistance while increasing traction and puncture prevention. Normally I would consider a statement like this nothing more than marketing whether I like the product or not, but in this case, I can't help but think this statement is simply true. Living in the Pacific Northwest and preferring to ride in the hills, I find myself on wet, out of the saddle climbs constantly and these tires provide excellent traction even after many miles of use.

My 'go to' tire!

I love this tire for a number of reasons. First, it's one of the few I can find that come in the 700 x 20 size. While I have read and understand the logic behind the physics of a bigger tire, I'm a firm believe in the 20s and will continue to use them until I cannot purchase them any more. These Continentals are consistently reliable and I am always confident when riding on them. I race with these as well as do high mileage distance rides and really get a ton out of these tires. I rarely have blowouts which gives me an even greater confidence to ride hard when racing. I've found 20s in other tires that haven't lasted nearly as long as the Continentals. It's a solid, consistently well performing tire that I will continue to purchase.

Continental Grand Prix 4000S 700C

Have used for years. Continentals are dependable, love the wear indicator dimples & roll & corner efficiently.

Do wish access to longer stem presta 60mm tubes was easier. Why don't more manufacturers make such? With the increase in carbon wheels, longer stems is necessary. And I prefer non-threaded smooth stems so the grommet in my air pumps are not worn out by the thread abrasion faster. Please consider this.

This tire has been durable for me and performed well. No sidewall issues.

I have used Continental 4000 S tires for years and have had no problems with flats. The tires also appear to be slightly faster than the Michelin Pros I used previously.

I don't know of a better tire.

I've used conti Grand Prix's on my road bike for three years. I ride 6-8,000 milesyr. I generally get 4-5,000 miles out of a set without swapping front to back baring a major catastrophe. These tires seem to stick to the road as well as any and have always been a comfortable ride to me. I've had some flats due to road hazards, but never because of a tire failure.

Truly noticeable upgrade compared to mu Michelin Pro4 setup.

When I got my new high quality plush carbon road bike in 2010, it came with Michelin Pro4 tires. I didn't have a particular reason to change even though I'd had Contis on my old steely. Then last this last year I had some issues with quality control on two different Pro4 Endurance tires (probably tire-age-related but had a potentially scary tread separation on a rear tire) so decide to try the Continental 4000 S II. I had hoped to try the 28c and did my best to estimate if they would fit but NOT quite (1 mm too tall and they looked a little (a lot) fat on the Zipp 303 rims).

I did not expect the instant increase in my average speed during my first 300 miles with the new 25c 4000s. I spent a lot of time confirming the circumference and re-riding favorite routes but the speed difference, even for a slow old guy like me, was immediate. Adding maybe 12 to 34 mph (nearly all flat 30 to 50 mile Sunday rides) probably isn't much to most folks but it was a welcome return of some free speed that the last few years has swiped. I just hope they are as puncture resistant as new Pro4s, I did have one center-tread glass caused flat so far (a rare event with the Michelins).

GP4000S II tires lightweight and FAST!

I am a 67 year old bike rider and I still have the need for speed. GP4000S II, tires are lightweight, fast, and grips the road well. I live in the Seattle Washington area and ride year around in the rain and sunshine with no issues. My 1st set of GP4000S II tires lasted a little over 2500 miles before the rear tire side wall blew out. No flats for 2500 miles, the tire side wall just popped. Pulled out a dollar bill, placed it in the tire where the blowout occurred, replaced the tube and then back on the road again. Purchased 2 more GP4000 tires from BTD and the tires are still going strong at 1500 miles with no flats or blowouts. I will purchase the GP4000S II tires again from Bike Tires Direct.com when needed.

I only use Conti tires

I've used Continental tires for over 20 years, from their touring tires to the Gatorskin and now the Grand Prix 4000S II, which I've used for about 5 years. I rarely get flats and or slices in my tires from debri. It would take a lot to convince me to use any other brand of tire.

Except that they are not tubeless, these are great tires.

I run tubeless on my main bikes. On my back uptravel bike I run tubes for reliability and because I don't travel with a compressor. These are the best tubetype clinchers I have ever used. Much prefer them to the Michelins.

Great all purpose road tires

I've used many brand of tires butbgine the GP4000S ll profile the best (most road condition) tires. I live in Southern California but rode thes tires accross part of Canada, most of California coastline and in rain, snow, road debris, tough pavement, gravel, cattle grates and without issue, flats or other problems. I'm a female and fairly light but I've also had very few flats. I generally change my tires when they've worn down. I've had one side wall tear in 4 years. Needless to say I have great confidence in these tires.

works great

I have used other highly rated tires that work well. I just seem to keep going back to the conti's they feel great and last a long time with very few flats. I started using 25's and lower the tire pressure to around 90 to 100psi and it really cushions the ride out.

Good performance, mixed durability

I have no complaints with the ride or performance of these tires. (And my old bike has tubulars.)

I initially went about 2000 mi before I had a flat. The same tire then had another flat shortly thereafter. I put on a new tire when I changed the last flat. However, the new tire wound up having a sidewall tear after about 200 miles. So I would have to give durability a mixed evaluation.

Great tire, buy it on sale &40or in bulk&41

I've ridden Vredestein Fortezza Tri Comps and Quattro Comps for many years, and really enjoyed the road feel of those tires, even at higher psi. However, Vredesteins were very prone to nicks and cuts and road damage, rarely lasting to the point where the tread was worn. Always had to replace them sooner. These Conti GP 4000 S II's were recommended to me. They're not as tough as the Gatorskins, but, they hold up much better than anything or any other brand I've ridden. They will get the odd nick or cut, but usually only form major road debris. The road feel is smooth on a variety of road surfaces, and the tires are plenty grippy in hard corners or wet. No plans to change back to any other brand. Just buy them in bulk or on sale as they can be pricey. On sale at BTD you can find them for less than $XX.
