So disappointed! I bought 2 tires - 27 x 1 14 for my older 10 speed. They're MUCH too wide! Won't fit between brake pads even when substantially deflated. (My previous tires were 27 x 1 14 so I didn't make a mistake on the size.)
Now I'm stuck w 2 new useless tires & have to buy more. Question is do I get 27 x 1 or 27 x 1 18?
I can't keep buying tires, paying to have them put on & them buying more if they're too wide again.
Vittoria needs to get their sizing re-calibrated!

With some quick research, on youtube ... search 'How to Fit a Marathon plus Tyre' and also, 'How To Remove A Tight Tire Easy'. About 45 minutes first time & frustrated. After video tutorials & practice, about 5 minutes average time.I bought a set of 1-18 inch size. I am casual rider & can generally tinker with bike mechanics. I am guessing the tight fit tires that some have experienced may depend on subtle differences of the rim specifications (width, side height, etc.)
This is my first somewhat 'road style tire' for my vintage bike. They sure feel faster & light compared to my other clunkier 27 inch tires with heavier treads. To Bike Tires Direct ... please continue to offer variety of 27 inch tires for us vintage bicycle owners!

Mainly recreational use on back roads. Tires replaced original Raleigh-branded gumwalls that were cracking. Vittorias installed easily on my old Raleigh Technium 440 with Araya 27x1 14 rims. Hand pressure only, no tire irons needed. No defects in materials and with proper installation, both tires spin true. Seems to be a very well made tire and when pumped to 100 psi gives good, responsive ride with low rolling resistance. Cornering traction much better than my older tires, giving more confidence in the turns. I chose the 27x1 18 size which is still fairly high volumeprofile compared with the old tires. Glad I didn't order the 27x 1 14. The tread pattern is directional, so check the sidewall for proper rotation direction when installing! The ride and rolling resistance are very dependent on pressure, more than I experienced on previous tires, so I agree with Team USA that inflating to 100 lbs each time is the way to go. Very happy so far and very impressed with the speedy delivery from BTD. Highly recommend.

Good tire, needed it for a vintage commuter bike that I fixed up. These tires fit perfectly, are solid when inflated and ride smoothly. Great tire for the price you pay for sure! No complaints, would buy them again.

Hi,
Read good reviews & the price was right for me. I have an old 10 speed Peugeot bike from the 80s. The tires I removed clearly said 27 x 1 14. So, that's the size Zaffiro's I bought. The label on Zaffiro's says 27 x 1 14. But, they're much too big!
Guess tire sizes fluctuate by manufacturer?? So disappointed.

I have a hobby, I restore Vintage Road Bikes. It is a passion of mine. I love taking bikes that are on no use to people and making not only useful about loved again. So I'm always looking for good tires at a good price. I have put many, many Vittoria Zaffiro Road Tries on the bikes I restore. They look good and last a long time. Rarely if never do have people coming back to me to complain about the tires.
Thanks Bike Tires Direct for making this product available at a good price.

I was buying a new tire to refurbish my old 80's road bicycle. I was unaware of beaded versus non-beaded tire construction. Is this something new? Anyway my new beaded tire did not work on my straight walled rims. I donated it to the Earn-a-Bike charity where I volunteer. The tire was well make and had substantial tread. I'm sure someone's will get a fine new tire in the near future.

I'm a casual rider, about 10-15 milesday on level ground in san diego. no off road at all. the vittoria's seem to repel glass very well and I'm getting a year's worth of mileage from them. I replace them well before any corethreads appear. good value.

Well made, easy to mount tire. Rigid and well fitted onto the rim.

I went with the 1 18 size after reading reviews about the 1 14 version being a little large and was not disappointed. The tire did go on a little tight, but with the proper tire levers, it was perfectly doable on 1982 Araya alloy rims. The directional tread has a nice feel, with some shoulder texture and the rolling resistance feels minimal. There are not many choices for 27 rims anymore, but Bike Tires Direct sells several and this seems to be a good and very reasonably priced choice.

Overall good tires. They were widerthicker than I expected.

I put these on my vintage road bike for daily commutes to work. At 100 miles in they are still handling very well and gave me no trouble fitting the 1x14 inch tire to the rims.

I've used this tire on many vintage bikes for a updated ride and look over gum wall tires. The 1 18 wide size has worked best for me to replace 1 14 gum walls.
