These offer a few benefits for longer rides. First and foremost, you can just rest your hands on top of the grips and brake levers, keeping your fingers loose and relaxed. Great for easy sections of trail, pavement, fireroads etc. Secondly, with your thumbs hooked, your hands are about 25mm inboard on each end of the bars, which changes your shoulder angle and shortens effective frame reach. You're more upright and comfy - a nice way to relieve neck and shoulders. Brake levers are accessible in any position so there's no danger.

I put them on my single speed mtb. They work well for giving your hands a break on long rides. Not the easiest to put on. I have lock on grips so I just bypassed trying the directions' way. Much easier to remove the grips.

These were recommended to me by my hand doctor to relieve some arthritis pain in my thumb. Nice to have another (more secure) hand position on the mountain bike
