The description of this tire as being a sand tire almost had me picking another. I am glad I did not. They mounted by hand on Stans 52mm Hugos and bead seated with a mtb frame pump! I actually rode them without sealant for three days. Their cush is awesome. The supple cassings also wrap the chevron tread around every root and rock like sticky fingers. I ride them on a daily commute on a mix of road, gravel and singletrack for a minimum of 20 miles each way. More on weekends. They have 3 months of that wear and I would call them broken in nicely with at least 75% of their tread left. They do roll fast.

Took me a few rides to dial in the pressures on this, but I've really enjoyed them on my hardtail. Running them on rims with a 35mm internal width and they look fine. My bike originally came with 27.5x2.6, so this is a very tight fit on my fork.
It sure is slow on pavement. That's no surprise. But for how cush it is on trails (with the right pressure dialed in), it rolls remarkably fast. I set some personal bests this week on an XC trail with these tires. The extra volume is certainly appreciated on my hardtail; I can feel it eating up roots and small bumps. The front rolls along super smoothly too, and is easy to keep pointed the right way.
I run about 15-16 psi and I don't think the tires wallow or flex too much in turns. If you go much lower, you might run into that.
I will say that cornering grip does not have progressive breakaway. Once it goes, it's gone. I took a fast corner that was a little slipperier than I expected, and I went down.

If it wasn't for the sidewalls being so easy to tear I would be in love with this tire. They are super grippy but still ridiculously fast for a 3.0. They look awesome too. They shed mud well But can spin out on greasy mud. They grip well on loose over hard and float well on sand too.
Your trade off for all the grip, speed, and comfort Is weak sidewalls and they puncture easily.
I slashed a sidewall on a trail I've ridden tons of times on my Maxxis that have lots of sidewall scratches. I bought a new back tire to replace it. Then I got a tread puncture on a rounded tree root I plugged it. The next day I ripped a giant hole in the sidewalk on a fist sized rock on a fire road.
If you ride tech trails with jagged rocks or pointy roots, pass these up. They are better suited for smoother float trails or on a plus tire gravel grinder.
I swapped these out for my old worn out chronicles in 3.0 which are nearly as fast and grippy but much tougher.

These tires aren't lightweight but they are fast rolling, grippy (especially at 3" width), and great looking. I was cautious on the light and supple casing but they have held up well in the texas chunk. Great tire.

This has been my favorite tire for loose Sandy terrain. Rolls extremely fast for a 3.0, floats well through sandy washes, and corners with confidence on loose over hardpack. The ride is very supple running them at 13 psi front 17 rear on 45mm wide rims on my Salsa Fargo.

item is labeled 27.5 x 3 inch and when measured on arrive i was not sure since the tread measured 5 inch and 3.
Then test installing, was easy and simply to put on. but when inflated it was 5 inch, so it does not fit my bike which limit is 3 inches, too bad!

Good tractiongrip on rear but laterally unstable on front on loose or sandy material over hardpack. Speeds of 15mph or more result in skating side to side with the slightest turn. Have one serious injury when front went out sideways with zero warning and have had several near falls when on very slight curves with some dry sand over dry packed. Tire seems to float easily and then is susceptible to lateral force. My OEM tires are rock solid on same exact trails so am going back to them on the front and will use the Teravails on back until they wear out.
