This is a decent pair of bike shorts. Light but tough, stretchy fabric. Loose without being baggy. Can handle a hard trail ride, or a rail trail ride to the caf'.
Still, there's not much to these shorts. As stated, these are definitely an "overshort" designed to wear with your padded lycra shorts. There are several mesh stash pockets placed well on the back and on the thigh, but they are loose and shallow ' there's no way I'd put anything of value in any of them. The zippered side pockets are OK, but they barely fit my phone and are so shallow the phone hits right at my hip. I still need jersey pockets or a bag on my bike if I'm doing any real riding. So if the idea was to create a cycling short that you can wear with a tee, these fail.
Overall, this feels like a first generation product that needs some refinement. For $125+ I'd expect a lot more precision and refinement, especially from a brand like Sportful. Still, I got mine on sale and I like the cut so I'll roll with it.
