Great dynamo, solid quality, lots of options for different bikes

I started riding brevets and other randoneuring events over the past two years. This year, I did some long nighttime rides including a 1000km ride around Lake Ontario. My bike is a Specialized Diverge with 15mm through axle. (2015 model, now they have 12mm). I bought the SP hub and it works great. It is quite small, and very easy to craft wires to attach to lights and other accessories. There is very very little drag and I really can't tell the difference between my non-dyno hub and the dyno hub. I've ridden it in driving rain, and over dirt roads with muddustgravel and the hub worked flawlessly. Yes, it's only one season, but the hub still looks great and it looks and feels really solid. The SON hub is the grand daddy brand and I'm sure works great. The SON hub is quite a bit larger, and more expensive. I like that the PD hub has only one electrical connection coming off the hub, and if I need to split off more, (for Sinewave for instance), I like the option of having the split higher up the cable. Happy trails.

Thank you for your feedback.

Comparable to SON Dynamo at an afordable price

I have never had a SONSchmidt Dynamo, I'm sure they are terrific, I just don't have $300 for a dynamo,

I have had, however, dynamos from both Shimano alfine and Sram D7 as well as my Shutter Precision PD-8 dynamos

I have three on three different bikes So for the cost of one SONSchmidt I have dynamos on all the bikes I either ride on tour

or ride at night. The Shutter Precision is lightweight, has minimal resistance or drag which both the Shimano and Sram had

and is a great value. Time will tell how they hold up over time, My first Shimano Alfine failed within a few hundred miles.

Thank you for your feedback.

a lot of power packed in this little hub

Same lights, different hub than on my previous commuter. The biggest difference seems to be the Shimano hub fired up the lights a bit brighter at start up. Only have 200 miles on this hub so far and it seems to be meeting my expectations.

Thank you for your feedback.

Awesome way to keep electronics charged on long rides.

A must have in the digital age. I use the Ride wGPS app on my phone plus lights and an iPod. Before getting this hub, if I forgot to charge a component and didn't have a spare battery, I was out of luck. Now, the dynamo hub is connected to a USB port mounted on the handlebar stem (sold separately). I went for a 2 hour ride after work and phone was charged from 40% to 90% while running the RwGPS app.

When I took it out of the box, it seemed that there is a lot of resistancefriction in the mechanics of it. But once on the wheel, I don't feel any resistance while riding and my pace has not slowed.

Too early to say how it holds up over time, but the initial impression is AWESOME!!!

Thank you for your feedback.

We have three in my family

I purchased my first SP Dyno hub when I lived in Germany (after I was cited by the police for not having proper lighting on my commuter bike). I was so impressed with the hub and Busch-Muller front & rear lights that I upgraded my road bike in the USA to a similar set-up. Finally, my son has a 650b road bike that he uses for randonneuring and commuting which also has a SP dyno hub.

Thank you for your feedback.

Best Value for Your $

Of all the hubs I have used this one seems to have the least amount of drag, is very affordable, and high quality construction. Highly Recommend

Best Dynamo on the market, great price!

ive been dreaming of building up a dynamo wheel for years now, and have read a pretty significant number of reviews of different brands while i should be doing other things. It basically comes down to paying $$$ for a SON hub (which i honestly dont think i could tell the difference with) or getting one of these guys. I LOVE it, road it across iceland on gravel roads, it held up great, and I charged my phone and speakers so i could blast prince even while traversing the most remote glacial tills

Thank you for your feedback.

Great value

I've had one on my commuter bike for two years now. This hub does a great job powering my lights, has been completely reliable and has barely noticeable drag. I'd definitely buy this again.

Thank you for your feedback.

Good at first and then horrible

Spun well, kept spinning even after dynamo function broke ... SP sadlyhas very poor customer service and their hubs fail unlike the new shimano hubs ... so just buy a shimano

Thank you for your feedback.

Fantastic hub

I've been riding this hub for the last year and it has been solid, nothing to complain about. It laced up nicely and it looks good. I run a super nova light system and I feel confident that this hub will keep my lights lit where I can stay safe on the dark and rainy commute home. My wife has sanyo dynamo hub and this SP hub feels significantly smoother and with less drag. I have no experience with SON hubs but the price point of SP hubs are much better. If I could go back, I would have purchased the thru axle PD-8X hub since it also comes with a QR adaptor. My new bike has thru axles so I recently purchased a PD-8X to put on that bike. So, if you see yourself getting a thru axle the future it might consider the PD-8X where you can run QR now and then thru axles later using the same dynamo hub wheel.

Thank you for your feedback.
