The larger 34 tooth gearing works perfectly in the Colorado mountains or on the steep gravel roads.

Be sure your derailleur can handle the larger cassette or buy a wolf tooth extension. You will also need a new chain. Very pleased with this purchase.

Review by LukeReviewed 8/12/2020by LukeSF Bay Area 2 of 2 customers found this review helpful.Great for the tough climbs locallyI bought a second lighter wheelset for my gravel bike with more A road bias. My other wheelset have the same 11-34 gearing. Decided to upgrade to the HG800 from the HG700 mainly because the price was minimal and BTD'S VIP points made the cost negligible for a slightly lighter and nicer cassette. The 11-34t cassette paired to a 46/30 subcompact crankset allows decent road speeds but allows you to crush any hill on the road and all but the steepest trail climbs here locally. I have found that I can climb 16 degree fire trails with this cassette before I have to stand up and the tires skid out beneath me with a file tread tire.
Probably doesn't need to be said that you will need to add links to your chain if you are going from a smaller cassette.

Nice to have the extra teeth for a little more relief when the going gets steep. NOTE that even though this is branded as an Ultegra cassette, it is actually spec'd for mountain bikes. Meaning - if you're using a road hubset you need to install the included spacer on the freehub before you install the cassette.

Bike Tires had it and at a great price. BT always the best to deal with. I have made well over 100 purchases from them. I usually pick up at their store in Portland Or.

Review by AnonymousReviewed 11/4/2021by AnonymousCycling EnthusiastThis is great! Allowed me to use my old Chris King wheels with an 11 speed drivetrainWith the advent of 11 speed road groups, I wanted to use my old 10 speed Chris King wheelset.
This let me use this wheelset for at least a few more years!

My setup Praxis Zayante 4832, Shimano Ultegra FD-6800, and Ultegra RD-6800-GS (long cage). The HG800 11-34 was a simple drop-in replacement for a CS-R8000 11-32. I tightened the B-Screw a 12 turn but it really wasn't that necessary. I did not even have to change the chain. The derailleurs have no problems shifting small-small to big-big and every combination in between.

I ride 10k miles with 1 million feet of climbing annually, but past racing age. I use this 11-34 gear with Ultegra 5034 cranks resulting in a 34-34 low gear. This lets you climb the steepest hills while spinning a decent RPM and not straining your knees. Also helps on long hard rides near the end to climb hills when you're tired. If you are a 125 lb racer you don't want this cassette. It's only drawback is that to achieve the wide range there are some gaps in the gearing. I miss the 12 tooth sprocket.

Wound up liking it so much I bought more of them to upgrade all my bikes. Fully compatible with Ultegra 8000 series derailleurs. With this cassette I could climb Everest .

You wouldn't think 2 extra teeth is a big deal but it is noticeable. When Shimano introduced this cassette and made it compatible with my current shifters I went for it. You will also need the 8000 series derailleur and a new chain to make it all work but when you are finished you will have a bike that can climb Everest without having to get off and walk.

The gear spread is perfect so you are able to adapt your gearing to cadence when climbing.

Not only does it give you some lower gearing for steep climbs it is compatible with 1011 speed mountain freehubs as well as 10 speed road wheels. This has allowed me to use my mountain bike wheels with Ultegra 11 speed drivetrain.

Review by MVelomanReviewed 4/2/2018by MVelomanCycling EnthusiastNorthern California15 of 16 customers found this review helpful.Nice cassette, fits 10 speed freehubsI bought this to give me a little more gear on the 20% climbs in my area. I had been using an 1132 on my Ultegra 6850 equipped Roubaix. It did what I wanted, with the added benefit that it fits my old 10 speed wheels. The carrier for the largest gears is concave so it will fit the slightly shorter 10 speed freehub body. You need to use a spacer for 11 speed hubs. On the down side, it's 45 grams heavier than the 1132. It works fine with the medium cage Ultegra derailleur.
