Review by Mr. Know, et. al.
I have undersized Schwinn mountain bike pushing 21 years old with 21,000 miles. Heavy as hell (39 lbs.), with Rock Shox dating from the Permian. Ridden all over and even up to 14,000+ feet (well, pushed is a more honest assessment). Can't seem to get around to buying a custom Ti-frame because I tell myself "just another thousand miles, and I'll order the damn thing and be as light as feather"...but I never seem to get around to it.
So i refurbish the bike and continue to try and beat it to death. Which means replacing stuff only when it breaks or is so worn down, that it becomes dangerous. The result? Only the frame, brakes, and brake pads are original (I kid you not, the pads aren't even 3/4 down yet and still stop on a dime.)
So, about the shifter cable, the length allows me to use these for outer shifter cables, and when the inner shifter cable breaks, I swap them out. I've never had a failure of the outer shifter cable, and recycling while saving a few bucks and keeping my toolbox less cluttered is a good thing.
The inner dies because of the tight radius which causes the strands to break with fatigue. The dead giveaway is the difficulty of shifting into a higher gear on the front chainwheel in that it feels softer and softer. As I use a triple on the front, it's a long ride home looking pretty silly if it does break. Usually give a squirt of Boeing lubricant (never WD-40--I'm not a fan of cable housing snot) and that makes my thumbs happy.
These cables are ideal for junker bikes; not too expensive and reliable enough that I barely think about them for the 2000 miles they seem to last on the front. I keep a spare one in my bike bag, but have yet to come up with an easy way to replace the front should it break without it turning into an ordeal worthy of MacGruber. But at least I know I've got one as I do a silly bike ride home....

These cables are good, but a bit on the expensive side. Any well-known brand will work just as well, so I suggest only buying Shimano cables when they're on sale at a competitive price.

This inner shift cable was needed and in a good price. This product arrived as described. My husband was very happy to receive it.

Cables are well made, solid quality and perfect for replacement after wear and tear over long riding eseason use.
