Good Peddles for a newbie to clipless

I am going to post my insights on these clipless shoes and my peddles from a newbies perspective. Yeah, I don't get the clipless either, as I clip into the peddles... I ride about 20 miles 2-3 times a week, using a 29er mountain bike with slicks. I was scared to death of clipless, because I thought I would not be able to get out of them. I ordered the Shimano SM-SH56 SPD cleats to go with Shimano PD-M530 SPD Clipless Trail Pedals and Giro Rumble VR MTB Shoes. First off on the shoes, there is a channel that allows you to adjust the cleat position fore and aft, which helped me find the best fit. The Shoes are a bit heavy, but very solid and fit my feet well. The one thing I want to pass on, is the SM SH56 Cleats are multi release, so you can release your foot by twisting left or right. Plus you ARE NOT locked in to the peddles. You actually have some play where I can move my heal left or right by 12 inch to 34 of an inch. Which is really cool, as sometimes I have a little pain in my knee and by moving my right heel laterally I can take the pressure off. It really did not take me long to get used to clipping in and clipping out of the clipless cleats. You can adjust the tension on the peddles for the release pressure, and I have mine set light, but they don't come out on the upstroke. If you are considering trying clipless, go with the SM SH56 cleat, and these shoes, they were a good purchase for me. I was able to increase my pace on my circuit by 12 to 34 of a mile average. I went from 14.6 mph avg. to 15.1 and have gone faster but that was on a day when I had a good south wind. Overall I am very happy with this set up and would encourage anyone looking at trying out clipless to clip into their peddles to try this combo.

Good pedals

I use the pedals on my racing CX bike, the larger platform makes it easier to pedal if I don't clip in at first. The pedals are fairly lightweight. They are easy to install. I have had no issues at all.

Thank you for your feedback.

My go to commuter pedals

These are my commuter go to pedals. They are a shade on the heavy side, so weight weenies beware, but for us type, that just want a decent pair of SPDs to shoot around town with, they are an excellent choice. I have 8 bikes, and these pedals are installed on 4 of them. My bikes that don't have them are for racing, and touring. I've had 2 sets on 2 of my commuter bikes, that had held up for years of 4 season N.Y.C. commuting, and they still work as good as the day I got them. Definitely a good functional choice for the clip in commuter, who does have a roll of BENS burning a hole in his pocket.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great SPD pedals for MTB

Always a great deal and quick shipment from BikeTiresDirect...love these guys! I bought these pedals for my Felt 29er MTB. I'm new to MTB so I wanted a little more of a platform, but not huge. These are double sided and super easy to get in and out of.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great pedals

Really like these. I put them on my cyclocross bike to help me with my dismounts and they work great. I've also road the bike with my street shoes on and the platform is just the right amount. Overall I've put these on all my bikes that can do double/triple duty!

Thank you for your feedback.

Excellent quality and extremely comfortable!

We purchased the first set of pedals to put on my husband's bike. He is planning to ride the Ohio to Erie route, but from north to south, doing it in four days. His first day is 140 miles, so he definitely wanted ease and comfort. Due to COVID 19, we are not sure exactly how that June trip will look, or if it will even take place. He very kindly offered to put those pedals on one of my road bikes and I absolutely love them. They are extremely comfortable and very stable. Thus I just ordered another set!

Thank you for your feedback.

Durable and a Great Price

I came back from 15 years on Time pedals to try out Shimano again. I was tired of replacing cleats a few times a season and the pedal bottoms would wear out on the Time's making your foot wobble. So far these pedals have taken some serious abuse and work fine and spin freely. I'm impressed given I paid 30 bucks for them.

Thank you for your feedback.

GREAT SIZE, NOT TO LARGE

I USE THIS ON MY ROAD BIKE AND IT IS JUST LARGE ENOUGH TO MAKE MOUNTING ON AND OFF MUCH EASIER WITHOUT BEING CLIPPED IN.

Thank you for your feedback.

So far so good for my first pair of clipless pedals.

After a great deal of research and contemplation, I finally decided to cave and go clipless and boy am I satisfied with my purchase. I felt that these were a great place to start with my clipless adventure and after seeing how they have taken my riding to the next level, I'm not looking back. Whether on a tough climb, or on the road, these pedals have given me that little bit of extra power on my pedal stroke to let me go that extra mile. The wider platform these pedals offer gives the option to ride without the clipless shoes if you need to hop on for a quick ride across campus or just across town but I wouldn't ride them much farther than that (they get a bit uncomfortable depending on your shoes). They started to squeak after a couple months of tough riding but with a little TLC and basic maintenance all is well again. Haven't encountered any problems with mud clogging the pedals this far (but it stays pretty dry where I ride). Overall I would say that these are a great pair of starter pedals if you are unsure whether or not to go clipless or not. Thanks again, BikeTiresDirect.com; great service and great prices, parts always arrive on time!

Thank you for your feedback.

Such a good value.

I mean the XT and XTR pedals are lighter for sure but for the money these pedals are really good. They work really well for my trail bike and take abuse well.

They are easy to use.

This is my first pair of clip in pedals and at 56 that is a big change but they are easier to use than I thought they would be.

Great pedal...wish it came with 56 cleats instead.

I like the pedal you can use the bike without your bike shoes if making a quik run. The cleats are another issue. I have fell several times with the cleats that they came with leading to chain ring cutting up calf, cuts in my seat and gouges in my shifter. I cannot get my left leg to pivot enough. Swaped out the cleats to multi dirction release and ha ent went down since, also havent had them release on the up stroke either(I was told I would). Now i have the locked in feel with the ability to get out.

Thank you for your feedback.

Clip both sides

First time Ive had clips on both sides on a mountain bike. I prefer these over one sided clips
