I've been using these for my daily bike commute, and I've been impressed. I bought them mostly for wind protection rather than glare protection, which is good, because the photochromic lenses are reasonably slow to adapt to ambient light. If they are exposed to direct sunlight they change pretty quick, however, I've noticed if I'm wearing a cycling cap on the morning commute (riding into the sun), the lower portions of the lens will become darker, whereas the shaded aspect of the lens will not. Definitely not a deal breaker, and to be honest, doesn't even detract from the functionality of the sunglasses. Other than that, the lenses are completely untinted when not exposed to light, which makes them awesome for sunny morning commutes as well as dark evening commutes. The lenses are visibly correct, in that they don't distort my vision at all (I've had glasses in the past that make me feel like I'm riding about a foot higher off the ground because of distortion). There is a very slight imperfection in the right lens, close to the nose piece, but I've really got to sharply look sideways to notice it. Overall, I was expecting a pretty shoddy pair of sunglasses given the price I paid for these, but I have to say, I'm more than pleasantly surprised.

I bought these glasses for the dark, cloudy days that can suddenly turn to bright sunlight. Allow me to see in the shadows and dark places on the trails and yet still have some protection from bright sunlight. They also are good for eye protection from rain, dirt, bugs, etc. I only have one complaint, the nose piece doesn't seem to fit my nose exactly, so there is more of gap between the glasses and my cheeks below the lenses. They do not fit as tightly as my regular sunglasses. I guess this is a plus in the rain, they won't fog up as easily! The photochromic feature seems to work as advertised, with the lens darkening in full sunlight. The BTD price was the best feature, the introductory sale price was great!

I'm an early riser so my rides begin at dusk. I found the glasses very useful, I don't have ride with two pairs of glasses or lenses. The glasses transition seamlessly from no light to sunlight, which is great and is one less thing to worry about on my rides.

These are my go-to sunglasses if it's cloudy or might get cloudy as the day wears on. I got my Shimano's on sale and am very happy with the fit, clarity and comfort.

I bought these glasses because I commute to work on my bike. Often it is dark in the morning and sunny in the evening when I cycle home. I have just been riding with clear lens glasses and thought it would be nice to have a set of photochromatic glasses so I'd have clear in the morning and shades in the evening. These glasses barely achieve a tint at all. I suppose I should have been suspicious when they came with a clear lense as well as a sunglass lense separately...kind of strange for photochromatic glasses but now I understand. I much prefer my Smith Parallel glasses, this was a mistake, lesson learned.

Lightweight, nice fit for my average size face, and the photochromatic is ideal for pre-dawn and late evening rides. I have also used these glasses at the velodrome, when the racing continues into the night under stadium lights. These may not be the best for high noon on summer days but I have my sunnies for that.

I expected more from shimano but still was a great deal
Hi redhill,
Thanks for your review! We have had good luck with the Shimano sunglasses and the transition of the sunglasses. Photochromatic lenses do work better and become darker in cooler and colder conditions. Be sure to get in touch with our customer service department at [email protected] with any questions about our sunglasses or exchanges.
Thanks, Anna
