Review by PaulReviewed 1/7/2023by PaulCycling EnthusiastDCEasy to use and reliableThis is my first smart trainer so I have no basis for comparison with other brands/models. That said, I was impressed by the ease of setup--just download the Saris app onto your phone, mount your bike, plug in the trainer, spin for 10 minutes and run the roll down calibration. You're all set to ride within 15 minutes of unboxing.
I was also impressed by the H3's noise. It's very quiet compared to my previous fluid trainers, so I can spin without turning my TV volume to 100%. I don't Zwift so I can't comment on the unit's interface with Zwift or other racing games. However, I do note a significant lag (2-4 seconds) on the power readout following sudden jumps in power/tempo. DC Rainmaker noticed this as well--it's not a quirk specific to my unit. This shouldn't matter for steady state efforts or long intervals, but could impact your data for short intervals or virtual racing where any lag in power measurement will skew your data or get you "dropped."
I was hesitant to buy a smart trainer, but BTD's clearance sale price made the Saris H3 a no brainer. I've used mine 2-3x week for nearly 6 months with no problems. Saris customer support has a good reputation, so if I do have problems with the unit Im confident Saris can easily fix them.
