I have used this cleaner as well as the Park Tool CM-5 Chain Cleaner. I use a 50/50 mix of water and simple green in them. Though the Park tool cleaner looks a little goofy, but it cleans the chain much better. The Portland Design cleaner doesn't clean the sides of the chain very well. The Park Tool cleaner has a larger reservoir and has a sponge at the exit side to soak up the liquid from the chain before it exits. The Portland Design cleaner has a small reservoir and no sponge, so all the liquid sprays out the exit and onto the floor. In addition the Park Tool cleaner costs less.

Only used it once on my geared mountain bike and once on my singespeed. So can't speak to longevity. Looks sturdy enough though. Works slick with derailleur but is difficult to use without one.

The chain cleaner really cleans up the chain but it is a bit messy. So if you have a pristine garage I don't be sure to put rags or newspapers or something on the floor under your bike when you use this. Also there are 3 brushes and the middle brush broke off - operator error for sure - but the tool still will do a fine job cleaning the chain. I have been using Simple Green as my degreaser and am about to try a lower cost degreaser from Home Depot.

I don't know why I waited so long to buy a chain cleaner.

While this gadget isn't entirely necessary, it sure is handy and makes cleaning chains a breeze. I actually kind of look forward to it now. Just pop it on the chain with a little cleaning solution, and run the chain through. I'm hoping that this prolongs the life of my chains and cassettes.

I am kind of inept when using new tools that don't have explicit instructions, but after going to the website and finding out how to use this tool it was great. It did a thorough cleaning job and was quick and I stayed clean while doing it (which wasn't always the case with other chain cleanings). I'd highly recommend this product.
