Decent MTB shorts, could use a little work

Overall these are fairly decent shorts for mountain biking, especially if you don't want the absurdly baggy and/or ridiculously long variants that go way past the knee. The length is good on these if you're not one of those folks and the fabric is strong, but still stretchy to flex while you're riding. Decent amount of pockets on them as well. They breathe decently on hotter rides and they don't ride up much.

Where I'd say these shorts fall a bit short is they lack a liner and the waist size based on the chart isn't accurate. I'm a 33" waist and bought a large to accommodate a liner below them, and wished I'd not. Even with the adjustment tabs pulled tight, when these stretch while riding they are way bigger than a 34-35, and more like a 36-37" short with both effects in play in no small measure because the amount of Velcro on the waistline is too little to adjust them much.

As a result, the tabs easily pop off the small amount of Velcro they grab and you end up spending lots of time fiddling with them to keep them from sliding down and causing a crack attack, which as you might expect is a giant pain while riding, especially if you're trying to keep a steady flow going.

The other negative about the tabs is they're a hard plastic/rubber, so as they move around they rub your sides if they're not 100% seated correctly, enough so they rub your sides raw over a multi-hour ride. I'm going to be modifying these to add glued-on Velcro to them to make them more functional and keep the tabs locked down. I'd rather they made the tabs a softer, more flexible material that would stay in place on the Velcro better, and wouldn't rub your sides raw.

Overall I'd still recommend these shorts if you factor the size discrepancies in.
