Racing CX in the Northwest made me a big fan of embrocation. Especially in the cold. But, I've lived in a hot, tropical climate for the past six years, so I didn't really consider embrocation until my low back would get sore from lots of climbing. Decided to give the medium heat a try just to see if it would help. The answer is it does, and it's not burning hot like some of the stuff I've used before, when I wanted all the heat I could get. However, I don't recommend slathering this stuff on arms and legs if you are in the heat. The sun causes it to get uncomfortably hot on your skin. If you are looking for a medium warmth potion, this stuff does the trick.
Everybody's skin is different, so try a small amount first to make sure you don't overreact to it. It's natural ingredients and it smells like most of the other concoctions I've used. If it were cold, I'd use a generous coating of this stuff. I like the heat level, which slowly builds as your muscles warm up without being too intense. If you're out racing in the cold and wet, like muddy, rainy PNW cross races, you might want to give the more intense heat level stuff a try.
