This tire works great as a rear tire in the dry condition we have in So Cal. The side walls seem thinner and I run it tubeless and had to add a few extra lbs of air to avoid burping, even with Stans's rims. But it still rides great with good traction and is noticeably faster then the Nevegal.

I've been a road rider for a few years, finally trying mountain biking. I have a rigid with these on, and the place that I've gone to a few times is generally wet because of springs that flow thru it. I used the bike as a commuter prior to finally taking it off road, and these tires were very good for that. They were great on dirt, but when it got to a wet area, they REALLY packed on the mud. It got so bad that it accumulated between my frame and rear tire and I could no longer turn my cranks. So if you ride generally in dry conditions, these are awesome, if not, you may want to keep looking.

I bought a new 29er last year, these tires were part of the package. I thought I'd change 'em out pretty quick - not the case. I've been running 'em for a year now - everywhere - dry conditions, mud, even snow. They can clog with mud at times and get slick, but still not bad. Otherwise, I'm amazed how well they roll and work. My rear tire needs to be replaced, thought I'd replace the set with something beefier. I'm considering just running these again.
I'm running 'em on a hardtail 29er. I weigh about 160 pounds and usually run 30 psi front and rear. I mostly ride on technical singletrack in the Seattle area.

Just got these tires a week ago. They make a huge difference on my bike...I really notice the lighter weight, improved traction, and lower rolling resistance. I strongly recommend for hardpack riding if you want speed with traction.
I don't expect these tires to do too well in mud just from looking at them. For mud riding I plan to use my other bike.

These are pretty awesome tires, they have taken me a lot of nutty places.. I live and ride all over the mountains in Montana. I'm sold, going to run them again for sure...

I have yet to find a situation these tires will not grip other than ice or sand on pavement. Through one and a half feet of water with largish branches submerged to a steep slick mud bank on the other side no problem.
I was watching rider after rider lose it on the muddy bank I thought I can do that or at least if I bail I'm no worse off than all these other guy's.
After a little spinning of the wheel to dig through the mud up the hill then back down and through I over heard a few of the wet riders who didn't make it thats not even hard... what ever
I'm used to be a strong rider now I'm just average. I used to ride a high knob MTB tire for mudding but I think these would have been better.
Price is a bit much but they came stock on my bike so whatever.
Minneapolis is pretty flat but the river flats are pretty muddy. My favorite.

Could not beat the price even on eBay, plus these tires can be used for 95% of MTBing, don't let anyone fool you!

Bought this tire for the low rolling resistance, but still w knobs. Got these tires when I built my new bike. I'm in the city most of the time, but still ride on dirt on the weekends, I comute to work on good days when I have time. these tires have great exeleration, and grip well on pavment and hardpack dirt. they are very bouncy with a thin cross contry rim at lower preasher so I switched to a wider freeride wheel because i'm very hard on wheels. When on pavement they will slip when you hit and turn on sandy dust, but what tires won't at high speed. But overall a good tireAnd they will diffinitly pinch flat easy at low air presh.

they'll pinch-flat if you look at 'em funny.
They're awesome for folks who are used to keeping around 45-50 psi, and especially if you're running suspension. All my buds who run high psi andor suspension absolutely love this tire for its quick acceleration and talon-like grip. They'd make a great xc race tire.
I found them to be too bouncy at that psi though, and extremely prone to pinch-flatting at anything below 45psi. This is not a good tire for rigid SSers who are looking for a squishy, shock-absorbing tire.
Finally, when these break traction, it's a sudden thing. Some tires let go gradually, others more quickly - this'd be one of the quick ones!

These went on easily but I could not figure out the rotation direction. The center knobs have a slight ramp so I figured it out from there. The knobs are really uniform so it might not make much difference. I tried these on the bike path to get to a local trail system. On the bike path they were fast rolling-faster than the WTB Nanos I was using. On the trails they did the job. I ride on dry, firm, and occasionally gravelly conditions. I few slips on the uphills but I am riding a 29 inch single speed so it's probably me, lol...Anyway, I consider these an upgrade from the stock tires on my Dawes 29inch Single Speed and they are a great deal. Lighter too..Get out and ride!

I was looking for new UST tires for my Mt. bike that would match my riding preference, which is mainly gravel roads and two-tracks, and paved roads or the occasional rail trail to get to my destination. I also went from my old 1.95 tires to 2.1 size on the Small Block Eights. I was pleasantly surprised on how well they rolled on pavement, and they were relatively quiet. But where these tires really excelled was in the gravel and dirt. They handle sand well too. These tires roll and climb well, and have excellent traction. I got used to the wider size right away, and they seemed to add stability to the bike. I think these tires will even work in the Michigan winter on the snow and ice packed dirt roads.

I like the low rolling resistance, good grip, easy to mountdismount.
I don't like poor punture resistance to goat head thorns, small chips of broken glass, noise over 15mph on the street you can sure hear them coming.
important with the many flats.
