I like this helmet; won't rave about it, but it is a good helmet for mtb riding.
It has a solid plastic hardshell together with the usual Giro quality inner padding with MIPS. Tightness can be adjusted on the fly, which is necessary if I add or remove a skull cap. I was able to get a Third Eye mirror attached to the side with minimal effort (and some gorilla glue). I bought mine at what I think was a reasonable price.
The downsides?
1. Giro makes absolutely NO allowance for placing a mirror on the side of the helmet. This is absolutely crazy in my judgement. Yes, you can fit a mirror, but you often have only half the surface area you might like, and that surface area is curved and not designed for a mirror mount.
2. This helmet advertises itself as having a Go-Pro mount on the roof of the helmet. It does, but you have to spend a lot of time & physical effort to get it to work. Apparently, early versions of the helmet were too loose. My helmet was so tight that it was only after a half-hour of fussing was I able to attach the go-pro mount onto the helmet for the first time. Then more fussing to remove it, and learn to add it reliably. I guess it is stable, but it is also a pain in the ass to add-remove.
3. The visor to me is entirely superfluos, and I wish it could be easily removed. Nope. So I lift it out of my sight, where it is unnecessarily un-aerodynamic.

The fit and style of this helmet is excellent. The visor position is perfect, some sit to low or are just an ornament and not use full at all. The straps are in a good position and are very secure with out being restrictive. Great product.

I live in North Central Washington, and I ride trails like Devil's Gulch almost every day.
I've crashed in a MIPS helmet and hit the pavement pretty hard, but the impact to the helmet was noticeably dispersed, unlike the old helmets.

The helmet fits great and is very comfortable, however the GoPro mount that was provided in the box did not fit. It was very loose, and wobbled around in the quick-release mount. I found this answer from httpswww.pinkbike.comnewsgiro-montaro-helmet-review-2015.html helpful
Thanks for calling us out on the GoPro mount... We just received replacements in our warehouse and at our distributors' warehouses. Here's the part number 8046963. Give a shout to Giro customer service, your dealer or distributor and we'll get replacements out.
I contacted Giro support, and they sent me a GoPro quick-release that fits properly.

My old mtb helmet was toast so had to upgrade. Went with Giro because that's what I've always used. It is a far better fit and adjustment may be similar it fits my head way better than my old helmet and the ones I use for road riding. Worth the money.

Giro made a fine helmet. Fit and finish, ability to dial in fit and included accessories make this helmet a good value. However, it didn't fit me quite right. The strap on the left side kept digging into the back of my ear. I didn't want to live with this on long rides. The right side of my head was just fine, so maybe it's just my head shape. It might fit you better, give it a shot because it's a nice, solid helmet.

Can't complain at all about this helmet. It's a straightforward fit with stylish trail looks. I like the retention system and the weight's not bad. The adjustable visor is a nice touch as well.

My son had a smith forefront he had used for two seasons. This Montaro was a replacement for that helmet. He's told me multiple times, unsolicited, how much more comfortable this helmet is over his prior one. He likes the color scheme and is excited for the highschool MTB race season this year after covid.

I just got one of these helmets before a week of riding in the Downieville area. The set up was super fast with the new retention system. I really like the new strap guides that do away with the cam lock. The straps lay flat and don't twist. I also really like the in-molding that goes all the way around so no EPS is showing. My helmets take a lot of abuse and exposed EPS gets hammered on in no time. This is my first helmet with MIPS which I can take or leave but safety first...
The fit was spot on for my head and all the little style hits was a bonus for what I was a super reasonably priced helmet.

In almost 35 years of riding mountain bikes, have had 15 to 20 helmets mostly Giro. This one has been the best fitting ever, right out of the box. It was on sale makes it even sweeter. As always, prompt delivery from BTD

I feel protected when I wear this helmet when riding my mtb. I especially like the go pro camera helmet mount that comes with it.

Giro helmets usually fit my narrow head well, and this one is no exception. The visor is really long, a bit of overkill for me.
Good value when marked down.

My giant head makes most mips helmets look like doppler radar towers on my noggin. This helmet has a lower profile - even though it is also mips - and has plenty of coverage on the sides and rear.
It's light and very comfortable. As cool as any other helmet I've owned too - good ventilation.
Get one.

After years of using road helmets while mountain biking I decided on and the Montaro. The fit is as good as any of my road helmets and the added material isn't noticeable.

Tje only reason i m giving it 4 starts is because the padding. I had to get a replacement padding right after the 1st use. The sems at the end are falling aprt and the same is happening with the replacement. Other than that the helmet has great coberage and it stay put when you shake it coming down the hills

Love this helmet. It's very comfortable. Nice and snug, without crushing any parts of my head. The adjustable visor comes in handy. The accessory mount that comes with the helmet is a huge plus.

I really like this helmet, I use it for everything from XC to all mountain ridding. I really how light it is and very comfortable too. I'm on my second one and if they still make it when I need a new mtb helmet, I will definitely get another one.

Love this helmet. It's a straightforward fit with stylish trail looks. I like the retention system and the weight's not bad. The adjustable visor is a nice touch as well. Solid construction that's ready to take an impact if it needs to while keeping my head nice and safe.

This is a pretty nice helmet, but be forewarned that it runs on the small side. I ordered this for my wife, whose head circumfrence fit within the stated size, but it was way too small for her. I ended up giving it to our average sized 8 year old son. It fits him really well, and is much more snug and feature filled than his prior kids helmet. Happy with the helmet, but if I hadn't been able to hand it down to our kid, I would have been frustrated that it didn't fit where other Giro helmets of the same size did.

Picked this helmet up on sale. Looks great and fits very well. It is also relatively light. Good value for MIPS technology. Only criticism is that temples of sunglasses will not easily fit over the straps. Other than that Id say its perfect!
