An Absolute Necessity When Riding in the Boonies With No Communication

Cell coverage in the areas I take long training rides is non-existant. I keep the InReach Mini 2 with me, just in case I have an irate motorist that wants to cause me problems while training. I also live near a high crime vicinity and the InReach Mini 2 provides me assurance I can obtain assistance with one button push, should the need arise.

The monthly or yearly plans with more functionality/usage capability are somewhat pricey but my life is worth the money. You need to setup and preprogram all your common text messages in advance of using the unit, for instance, "On the way home", "I am okay, will contact in 1 hour", etc. By preprogramming your text messages, you have a way to communicate quickly with family and friends.

Best feature of the unit is the ability to have family and friends track you in near real time. The InReach MapShare page will allow those you give access to the ability to see where you are on a map and obtain your coordinates. The key is choosing the monthly or yearly plan that gives you the most flexibility based on your needs.

Thank you for your feedback.

useful when you need it most

I like the size and functionality. Some of its menus are extremely counterintuitive, and the manual is not much help. In particular, if you want to compose a novel text, the scrolling is tremendous as you travel from A to Z, one letter at a time. However, I was able to send text messages when I had no cell service, and that's what I wanted. Have not had to use the SOS feature yet, but anticipate that feature could be helpful. The Garmin interface actually seems to work well.

Thank you for your feedback.
