I was literally going to buy a Garmin Instinct when this went on end of year sale. Granted the Instinct would have probably done the job just fine and has the potential to always run off solar, but I couldn't turn down the price and features on the Fenix. Sapphire glass should help it hold up to my rough wear. Still so much to learn and figure out, but having it connect to my Wahoo Kickr for additional tracking on MyWhoosh workouts is great. Gathering data and improving my speed and power in my late 40s is great incentive to get back in better shape. Having upwards of 20 days of battery is a great deal too. My previous Fitbit has to be charged about weekly. I often just pop the watch on a charger when I'm getting ready for the day and it adds a day or two of charge.
The other thing I love is the always on display and customizable watch faces. Having it look like an analog watch gives it an old school feeling with all the new school tech.

I am coming from a Fenix 5 and this & is a giant jump forward. way more accurate in both heart rate as well as GPS distance and speed. This feels so familiar coming from the Fenix 5 yet the added features of touch screen and solar are really nice. I am amazed at how much more accurate this watch is for distance and speed and HR comparatively. I have been wearing it for about 2 months and love the size and the weight . I cannot wear it to sleep, but I dont think i could wear any watch to sleep. I use this watch for hiking, mountain biking, road biking, gravel biking, running and snow shoeing. No complaints except maybe it makes certain gloves or jackets tight around the watch due to the thickness. Not sure how you fit everything this watch has in a slimmer package.

I have used a Fenix 5 for quite a while now, but recent issues with connectivity drove me to upgrade. The 7 solar is much better and easier to navigate with the touch screen. BTD had a sale and saved some cash as usual, thanks again!
