Just about does it all

I was happily using a Magellan Cyclo 315 but Magellan stopped supporting it. The Magellan is not compatible with Windows 10 which all computers except Macs use. To keep this from ever happening again I switched to Garmin. I have a Garmin Nuvi that is at least 6 years old and it is still supported by Garmin. I chose the Edge 1000 for several reasons. First is the size. With my 61 year old eyes I have no trouble seeing the screen on this. And it has tons of features and data. More than I actually use. However I lead a lot of club rides and with this I no longer use cue sheets. I simply download my routes into the Edge and follow it. When I approach my turn, on the bottom of the screen it will count down the distance in feet and time. It does not give an audible alert like the Magellan but that's nitpicking. The only reason I knocked off a star is the mount which is held on by rubber bands. For an item this expensive I expected a much more secure mount. To keep from losing it I spent the extra money and bought a K-Edge mount for it. I also purchased a quick release lanyard for it in case the bike ever falls over or is in a crash the Edge will still be attached to the bike. I highly recommend both extra purchases. When buying equipment this expensive you want to make sure it doesn't fall off the bike and get run over by a passing car.

Thank you for your feedback.

Seamless integration with your devices and a plethora of information at your fingertips!!!!

I must admit . . . I'm a technology junkie, if you told me that this device was able to provide my horoscope (I'm a Capricorn, by the way, I enjoy fresh-baked bread and long, peaceful walks on the beach) and launch missiles against the former Soviet Union, I'd buy it in a heartbeat! Um, ok . . . I actually did purchase this without knowing those features.

Here's why this device is great - coming from the Garmin 510, the Garmin 1000 is like comparing a Kyocera 7135 smart phone (httpwww.pcmag.comarticle20,2817,719997,00.asp) to an Apple iPhone 5! The ability to quickly access pertinent features (turning GPS onoff is a breeze, for instance with the 1000. When the main screen launches, simply swipe down and there are multiple menus provided, one being to adjustturn off the GPS . . . no need to have it on when using the Kreitler rollers of Kinetic Rock n Roll). Data is automatically uploaded via wifi instead of needing to connecting the Garmin to the computer and upload results. The screen is clear, bright and vibrant. Using the the Garmin remote pushes the greatness even further . . . no more moving the hands from the bars to the computer to scroll through screens (spoiler alert, the remote works on the 510810 as well). I also purchased the Shimano Di2 D-Fly that communicates to the head unit what gear I'm currently in and what the Di2 battery level is . . . this thing is amazing!!!!

I haven't found any faults (yet) with my Garmin 1000. I'm glad I made the purchase and don't regret upgrading from the Garmin 510.

Thank you for your feedback.

Came from a Garmin 510 and couldn't be happier

Going from a 510 (a good little device in its own right) to a 1000 is like graduating from a gas station cigarette lighter to a Zippo. The auto-brightness adjust feature is a marvel, the maps work just OK - still not as seamless and user-friendly as a car's GPS, let's say - but the very fact that I even have them make them an automatic upgrade over the 510. Now I no longer have anxiety about riding unknown roads or trying new routes. Battery life does seem on the low side - the device is a bit of a battery hog. Otherwise, would still make the upgrade 10 times out of 10.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great product!

Great product. Tons of information, probably more then I'll ever use. I don't have a power meter so don't use that part of it. Records all the data you could ever want. Mine has worked well with Bluetooth. Picks up every missed call while riding. Great ability to customize screens. Sometimes too many screens, find myself looking at unit more then watching road. Great maps, nothing better. Love the size. Fits perfect on my 130mm stem. Only issue I've had is with sweat landing on screen and changing it. Have avoided issue with locking screen, although that negates ability to scroll through info. All in all couldn't be happier. Not sure what else I would recommend other then the Garmin 1000.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great upgrade

I upgraded from the 810 to 1000. I like the ease of connectivity to phone, wifi, setting up additional apps. I have not tested the beacon app yet. Although slimmer the 1000 has a slightly larger body and screen. I had to learn where the IQ apps are located on the 1000 once downloaded. It wasn't where I expected. It seemed the IQ button on the main screen would show them. Instead you have to swipe down on the screen and then swipe to the side..... Inconvenient.

This does not fit on the Bontrager Blendr low mount. 810 does. I have not been able to find a store with the hi mount in stock, so, I am limited to using the old style on the flat handlebars of the Trek Madone.... Which is slightly inconvenient.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great Product

This computer is a great upgrade to my Garmin Edge 500. Great features and lager numbers for my older eyes. The battery life is not that good it you keep the night light feature on, but regardless I really like seeing the computer at night. Great touch screen that works with gloves on. Bike Tires Direct has great prices and usually wins when I am looking for something.

text, email, and call notifications feature no longer works

One of the promoted features of the Garmin Edge 1000 is In this digital world, the Edge 1000 can also display text, email, and call notifications from your cell phone (iPhone 4S or later required). Please note that this feature no longer works on the Edge 1000 when paired to an iPhone. Garmin support blames Apple software updates, Garmin says they are working on the issue for the past month, but as of June 22 they can not give a definite time as to when the feature will be restored.

much clearer display.

The actual display area does not seem that much larger than the 810, but the image is much clearer and easier to read. It also seems faster than the 810 for starting and for finding and holding satellites.

Garmin keeps improving the line

This is my third Gamin Edge. I have passed the other to my wife's bike and the oldest I donated to a young rider who could use it.

The 1000 has all I need and yet to Great screen for my older eyes and technology that allows me to switch bikes easily. Only a few rides so far. Had to go online for features but a labor of love.

Love the product.

Great unit - must use latest firmware

Not inexpensive but feature packed - can now auto-sync with Strava. I do wish the screen was bigger for the size of the unit footprint and these things have gotten so big that it looks like I am riding around with my phone on my handlebars

good battery life and screen is excellent

Expensive but great new product, wonderful features, good Garmin support

Bought the Edge 1000 as an upgrade to a five year old Edge 705. The big screen is great, allows for more data fields while still being easier to read. Super fast start-up, satellites are quickly located and you can be riding less than one minute after pressing the on button. The touch screen is different from the previous Edge touch screen models and twice mine has reacted to a large sweat drop falling on the screen but it was easy to return to previous screen and I've had no other issues with the screen. The smart phone (iPhone 5) connection function is wonderful, you can upload the ride to Garmin connect immediately after riding, view weather conditions, and read (but thankfully not reply to) text messages a see caller ID for calls (really helpful when you ride with hateful people who complain about you receiving phone calls, allowing you to put phone on silent). The wifi connection function allows firmware updates without physically connecting device to a computer and speeds up data uploads when finishing rides as well as allowing courses to be loaded to device without physical connection.Overall I really enjoy the new Edge 1000 but when compared to the existing features of the Edge 810 I'm not sure it is really worth the upgrade cost but is worth the money if you need to upgrade from the older Edge 705.

Thank you for your feedback.

One great GPS

Been using the Garmin 1000 for a year now, this one I bought is for my wife's bike. Larger screen makes it easier to see. The screens are also programmable. You can add or reduce the amount of data that is on screen to meet your needs. I have never used the wifi that it comes with. I have no need for that function. I just plug it into my computer after my daily ride to down load my day's travels and to charge it back up. The battery will last a good long time, about I have had it on from 4 in the morning and will not get the low battery alarm till about 1PM, and it will still last a good long time before going dead.

Thank you for your feedback.

Good product, if a little pricy

The Garmin Edge 1000 has all the features I need, and a large visible display screen so that you can see multiple fields clearly. my favorite setup has 9 on the main screen and 3 on screen 2. Garmin finally went to a standard USB micro connection for charging, no longer the Garmin proprietary plug in. The battery life is good. On a 6 hour ride it went down to 50%, so I guess it might run 10-12 hours OK. So double century riders will need a backup charger. It connects to your home wi-fi so you don't have to physically plug it in to your PC to download your ride to Garmin Connect and Strava. But it downloads the ride as soon as you end it and get within range of your wi-fi. Garmin claims you can add a 64 Gbyte micro SD card for maps, rides, etc. Wrong! The 1000 will only use a card formatted FAT32, which has a max size of 32 gbytes. Tech support was clueless on this.

Thank you for your feedback.

Much Improved from my previous Garmin Edge 810.

After 4 years using my Garmin Edge 810, I decided to upgrade to the 1000. I am pleased that it is much more stable than my 810. I would recommend the 1000 to someone considering it. Bike Tires Direct also provided a very good price and their usual quick shipping. Thanks.

Great GPS at a great Price

It's a great GPS. I think Garmin has worked out most of the bugs on this model. I have been using it for over a month without having one single problem. The Bluetooth connection to my iphone didn't work a few times, but I can just force the Garmin to reconnect to my phone after the ride to upload the data onto Garmin Connect and Strava. Overall, I like the bigger screen and also the third party widgets that I can download from Garmin Connect. Pretty neat product.

Thank you for your feedback.
