Overall I'd say these are a pretty MTB shoe. They have sufficient stiffness in the outsole to offer good power transfer when you need to put down the watts to crank through challenging sections, including uphill stretches, but are still very walkable. The breathe well and the rubber tread offers good purchase on various surfaces when you have to scramble off-bike. Tread feels like it'd be durable longer-term.
The one notable drawback on these is they aren't for mid to low volume feet. They are a bit sloppy and hard to get a snug feel over the top of the feet if you have a normal volume or slim foot. These are definitely for higher volume feet. I found with my mid-volume feet that it was hard to get the two hook-and-loop straps snug enough for the shoes to feel secure in vigorous peddling or hike-a-bike sections.
