Castelli is expensive, but I have found their products to be worth it. After trying out many different brands, I have settled on Castelli as my brand of choice. I say this up front, because it is directly relevant to this jacket - it is well worth the money. This is without a doubt the best cycling jacket I have ever owned, and I can say this after just four rides. But those were four rides in Belgium in February, with its attendant mix of odd and bad weather (strong wind, rain, hail). I never felt the rain, and I never felt the chill in the air, despite riding in temps ranging from 34-45 deg F. While the jacket is rated at just below freezing, I think it would do well in even colder temps. The wind proofing works - really well - and so far I have only been wearing a base layer beneath the jacket. While I am looking forward to better weather and warmer temps, in a way I will be sad to put this jacket up until the fall. There are only two things that prospective buyers should know - first, size up. Castelli runs small, like all Italian clothing. Second, I wish there was more reflective piping - while I think the black jacket looks sharper, I bought the red for the visibility. There are a couple reflective tabs on the back, but not much.

This jacket is awesome, I rode on a colder mid 40s day with no sun and it kept me warm for sure. It took about an initial 10 minutes to get warmed up but after that the jacket kept me warm, no wind going through the jacket either. That day never got above 55.
Now with even the sale going on, the price of the jacket is quite high, but you get what you pay for, top quality warmth and a streamline jacket with little or no wind drag.
If you can afford it, get it!

Jacket is warm when you need it and ventilated. In 40 degree temps short sleeve base layer is plenty. Only thing I don't like is the fit of the sleeves. Wish there were tighter to the skin.

I got this coat at an insane price, otherwise I would not have spent that kind of money.
It's awesome!
I run pretty cold, but this jacket keeps me very warm into the low 30's with just a thermal Nike base-layer.
It is super comfortable, breathes very well, and moves with you.
It's much warmer than my PI Elite soft-shell, (which breathes almost too well).
My only complaint is that I wish the back pockets had zippers or a way to close them, since the coat is rated as rain resistant.
If you need a really warm jacket, this is it.

Super warm for Fall and Winter rides - I'm very happy. I ride with just one base layer and found the jacket super warm. The jacket also has great venting features, which provide great adjustments on the fly. I would re-purchase in a heart beat.

Great jacket for cold winter riding. Warm enough to wear with just a base layer at 45 degrees, and with a long sleeved-base and light wool vest still warm below 32 degrees. The zippered side vents can be used to help vent moisture and keep the temp just right. HIgh soft collar is a nice touch. Only minor gripe is the sleeve zippers...have to use my teeth to close them, but not a problem, just an inconvenience. Love the sleeves when zipped because even light gloves fit over them nicely. True to size for me. Costly, but undeniably a quality product.

I own two Castelli Espresso Due jackets. The first one I bought the previous winter and found it quite nice. Compared to my Pearl Izumi pro jackets, the Castelli jackets fit and breathe better. The biggest difference is the neck and the back. The overall fit of the jacket is more form fitting than Pearl Izumi jackets. The first one I bought was medium and it fit well. The second one I got a small, since I lost some weight.
I would recommend it to anyone that wants to keep riding in 30-40 degree temperatures. For colder days, add a thermal base layer and it stays pretty comfortable. I normally don't ride below 20F, but the few times I did the jacket kept me warm for about 45min.

I have used this jacket on rides of 3-5 hours in temps ranging from below 30 degrees to mid-fifties in the rain, snow, and wind. This jacket is superb and does as advertised. It repels rainsnow, blocks the wind, and keeps you warm with only a base layer underneath. I especially like the look and fit (typical Castelli). Craftmanship is excellent. The pockets are large and easily accessible and the torso and sleeve vents work well to disperse heat. It's a bit pricey, but well worth the money in my opinion. With good care, it should last for a number of seasons.

I settled on this jacket after doing quite a bit of research regarding winter cycling jackets. I typically ride in 35-50 degree damp conditions and this jacket does the job. It completely blocks any wind and most precipitation and keeps me nice and toasty with just a thin merino base layer. The vents do a great job with controlling temps, so as not to overheat. The sleeve length is perfect for tucking into gloves without coming out during a ride. The mp3 pocket will hold an iPhone 4 without its case just fine and the jacket looks great! The fit is perfect when standing, but my one complaint is that in the riding position I tend to get a bit of a bubble belly appearance. This could be my short torso, but I wish the cut was a little higher in the front so this was not an issue. Overall a great jacket and BTD is a great place.

Buy the jacket. Buy it here, too. You know you want to. What more reason do you need?
It's warm, it's comfortable. It moves the way it should. It feels fantastic when you're tucked in the drops, but it doesn't feel bunched and bulky walking around. The vents work as intended. It'll keep you as dry as any non-rain jacket can.
Have you worn Castelli before? Good news! Your Castelli jersey size will match with this jacket size perfectly, so you know it will fit.
Pull the trigger. Trust me. It's worth it.

Works great for those chilly morning rides. Vents are placed in the right spots.

First ordered two sizes up, but had to return and order three sizes up. Be forewarned - European sizing.

A quality Castelli product, but the European sizing runs extremely small. I normally wear a Large or an Extra Large. An XXL was still tight in the shoulders. Had to go to a XXXL to get the right fit in the chest and shoulders. At the discounted price of $150 this was a great buy.

First off, I got this at an incredible price from BTD. That being said, the jacket is great. It's comfortable and moves with the rider. I found myself removing layers that were unnecessary before cold days because this jacket performs so well. It has nice vents for temp control. Didn't get to test it in the rain, but the nape of the neck flap kept me toasty where it counts. There is an unnecessary slitpocket for an iPod - IMHO, anyone who rides without full use of their ears to hear approaching cars andor squeaking tires as the cars turn into your cycling space should have their heads examined.
The only negative would be the forearm sleeve zippers. They are a two-handtwo-man operation. Once unzipped, they are very difficult to zip up and over your gloves.

I've worn the Expresso Due jacket just a couple of times thus far, and find the fit, fabrics, and design very satisfying. The biggest difference between this jacket and the one it replaced in my wardrobe, begins with the exceptional wind proofing. The zipper side vents are also a nice feature, providing venting across the back of the jacket and drawing excess heat out of the core while climbing. This feature provides the jacket with a much wider temperature range on the upper end than it would otherwise have. Varying your base layer arrangement, this jacket is probably good from about 20 to 50 degrees fahrenheit. Zippered sleeves are appropriately long with adequate wind protection. Back pocket arrangement is typical, and the extra pocket for a MP3 player on the chest, has a wind protected cable exit for ear buds. Fit is always a personal matter, depending on whether you prefer race or club fit for your cycling experience. I would suggest that most U.S. purchasers size up from a typical dress or T-shirt size for the Expresso Due, unless you really like you garments to look like they are painted on. While it's pricey, I've found that my ever evolving (and demanding) taste in cycling wear, tends to make quality garments like the Expresso Due a bargain in the long run. Buy once, and save yourself the expense of upgrading later. BTW - the Expresso Due also looks and works great for cross country skiing at Sun Valley!

I wasn't sure I wanted to dish out the $$$, but after a few cold morning rides I was a believer. I've worn this jacket in 12 to 40 F temps. 12 to 30 degrees, I wore a base shirt and a bike shirt with the jacket. 30 to 40 degrees, I just wore a long sleeve bike jersy.
The coat is a taylored fit, so it is snug to the body. I'm 5'11, 215 lbs and I bought a large. If I was 5 lbs heavier it may have been an uncomfortable fit. The cuff zippers a a little struggle to zip and unzip, but not a major issue. The 3 back pockets are a little high for an old guy like me, but managable.
This jacket is a top quality. The assembly is flawless, not to mention the style.
This is a cold winter must have, even at the cost.

This is my first cold weather jacket. I avoided riding under 40F until now.Well I been out with this jacket a dozen or more times in temperatures between 25 to 40 and I was very comfortable. I do wear a base layer under my bike shirt for these rides.
The wind stop on the front works great, but even better are the vents at the shoulders that help keep you from over heating. The zippers on the sleeves and vents on the chest, along with the full length front zipper can be adjusted to accomadate any weather. I got caught out in a breif shower and the rain rolled right off the jacket. The workmen ship in the assembly of this jacket is superior.
This jacket is a european form fit. I'm 5'11 210 lbs. and I bought a large. 5 pounds more and I would have to ordered a XL. I'm an older rider and reaching the back pockets is a little hard because of their height on the jacket, but not impossible. The jacket is a bit pricey.
I bought this jacket on sale and so far I extremely happy. I don't think you can go wrong buying this.

I am 5'10 and 184 pounds. The jacket excels for me in temperatures in the 40s and with vents could be comfortable in the low 50s. The jacket is wind proof which I very much appreciated.

Yes, this jacket is quite expensive, but the quality of construction is worth it. I've ridden in 28F weather with a long-sleeve base layer, jersey, and jacket with no problems. The vents are critical for overheating and the front pocket fits an Iphone 4S. This jacket will last many seasons.

The Castelli Espresso Due jacket is very nicely tailored. In typical Castelli fashion, be prepared to size up as an XL is an excellent fit for my 6 foot 165 pound frame. I especially like several features of the jacket such as the shoulder expansion joints, as they increase comfort in a riding position, and the zipper sleeve ends, which make the jacket easier to get on. I've worn the jacket in temperatures as low as the mid-30's F with a long sleeve baselayer under it and it was plenty warm--above 45 F it would probably be too hot. My only criticisms of the jacket are the lack of a zippered security pocket and the back pockets are positioned a little too high, making it a little awkward to get something out of them as you ride. The jacket launders beautifully as I turn it inside out and wash it on the delicate cycle using Penguin Sport Wash.
