Reviews
I bought this specifically for travel by air and I'm packing my bike as luggage. The weight of the box, the bike, and any extras must be 50 lbs. or less to avoid surcharges. So, everything has to be weighed, has to be necessary, and has to fit.
I have a frame mounted mini pump but prefer not spending 40 minutes pumping up a tire. I purchased the Lezyne Micro Floor Pump and was a bit surprised at the size. I tested it a few times before relying on it in a hotel room on the other side of the country.
Getting set up takes a moment: Extend the base legs, prop up the wheel with the valve in reach, and position to pump the handle repeatedly.
The pump handle is small and can become irritating after a while. I recommend wearing a padded cycling glove if the handle causes palm discomfort. But the pump is efficient enough to pump a 28mm road tire from 40 PSI to 80 PSI in short order (I didn't count). I did not try going past 85 PSI as I'm a complete convert to the modern lower PSI, wider tire approach -- no more 120 PSI 20mm tires for me!
The pump is a bit large for on bike or jersey pocket carry, but it could work in a pinch.
I still use tubes so can't offer an opinion on the effectiveness of this pump with tubeless tires. Otherwise, if you need a lightweight, functional, well-built pump for travel, this should be your first choice.
One of the biggest advantages of this micro-pump is isolation of pumping force from the valve due to the separate pump hose. After breaking valve stems on roadside repairs with basic micro-pumps I will never go back to a micro without a hose. This model provides extra piece of mind for roadside repairs.
