The Ardennes Plus SL is ideal for race day or training rides, designed to deliver the stiffness, weight savings and durability you'd expect from high-end alloy, with the added benefit of a larger tire contact patch for a faster, more comfortable ride.
The key to the Ardennes' success has always been the innovative scandium C2 rim. At 24mm deep this hoop is amazingly light yet more aerodynamic than a traditional box-section rim. This weight saving, semi-aero profile isn't unique in and of itself, but it's just the beginning -- HED's engineers have realized that width also plays a critical role in cheating the wind. As such the new C2 Plus rim bed measures a full 25mm wide to help eliminate tire bulge and reduce drag when paired with 23mm or 25mm road tire. The wider rim also helps improve the wheel's stiffness and control, while a subsequently larger tire footprint affords riders lower rolling resistance and improved grip.
To sweeten the deal even more, HED has outfitted the SL with their exclusive Sonic hubset. The front hub features a carbon shell, alloy flanges, 12mm oversized axle and top quality cartridge bearings. The rear hub features a full alloy shell, a 15mm oversized axle and cartridge bearings to match. Both hubs benefit from extra-wide flange spacing to reduce spoke flex and improve overall rigidity.
The Ardennes Plus SL Clincher Wheelset has a claimed weight of 1490 grams. Tubeless ready. 18 spokes / front, 24 / rear. Quick-releases and tubeless rim tape included. The Shimano version is compatible with 11-speed cassettes and includes a spacer for Shimano/SRAM 8/9/10-speed cassettes. A Campagnolo 9/10/11 compatible version is also available.
Note: Maximum tire pressure on the Ardennes Plus SL Clincher wheelset is 100 PSI.

Let's get the one little negative out the way. The front wheel came with the bearings so loose it actually rattled once on the bike. A quick adjustment by my LBS cleared this up.
The Good My 32mm tires measure 31.4 in width on my Mavic Ksyriums. On the Ardennes the same tire went to 33.4. Bearings are very smooth and my LBS said it almost felt like a mechanical assist when he test rode them - haha. The WB sale price on these was a deal clincher. Two of my friends have the LT and love them. Another buddy has this SL and likes them. These are becoming sort of the standard wheelset in my group of rider friends for our gravel or all-around road bikes.
