The trail is crushed gravel with a thorny vine that grows along the sides. We ended up calling the vine puncture vine. I have no idea what the real name is. We road on another brand of tire that came with the bike. It was a good tire for road surface, But was not for this kind of a trail. During the 240 mile trip we had six flats between the three bikes. A little frustrating to say the least. When I got home I ordered Marathon Plus tires to replace the ones we used for the journey. During the tire change I found 26 punctures through the tire so I guess we were lucky to only had three flats on that tire. Replacing the with the Marathon Plus was pretty easy. For sure, no harder than any other tire. The weight difference was obvious just unpacking them. They are heavier. We have put some miles on the tires with no flats and in one case riding over some glass. The role resistance seems a little higher (not much). The trade off for the weight and rolling resistance is well worth the protection against flats.

Mounted them several times but there was always one spot where the bead dipped into the rim, probably the reason they were severely discounted. Still I'm satisfied and left them on the rims because they were for a cargo trailer.

Hard to mount, a bit. Heavy and slow, have not noticed. The fact four of us on trikes, thats 12 tires and an acumulation of nearly 25k miles without a flat make this a tire I love. I just ordered 3 more to replace the ones I wore out. Thank you Schwalbe for the tire I dreamt of. They have good traction in wet conditions, work well in gravel bike paths. Quiet on asphalt. Know the way home in the dark. I love them.

NO flats in 3 years of use! I run consistently at 75PSI and subject it to all 250LBS of me, 60-80 miles per week on thorn-strewn paved trails. Fantastic tire!

My wife and I are both members of the "Low and Slow" gang riding Catrikes. We switched over to the Marathon Plus and the result has been great. No noticeable increase in rolling resistance and best of all, no flats. Some reviews complain the tire is stiff and difficult to mount but I changed out six of them at home in about 30 minutes. Also available in 26" for the rear of my Catrike Expedition. Thanks to everyone at Bike Tires Direct for their helpful advice and great service.

We've put many miles on them on a variety of surfaces......asphalt, gravel, dirt and crushed limestone. The puncture resistance gives you peace of mind when doing a long self-contained tour.

Review by DerbsReviewed 7/6/2021by DerbsCycling EnthusiastNorthern WILocal bike shops carry kids bike 20 tires that do not work effectively on trikes but Schwalbe does thank goodness. 20 x 1.38 (406) used on electric assist trike with fenders. Look great and are wearing well.

I remove my duranos and put these on to commute back and forth to work every day. I have been a recumbent cyclistcommuter since 1993 and have been using marathon plus tires on my commuter bikes, trikes and velomobiles all winter long for years and years. In all the years and thousands and thousands of miles I have put on Marathon plus tires, I have never gotten a single flat tire! I used them on all four of my 75lb velomobiles during the winter months as well. These are without a doubt the toughest most puncture proof tires made. If never ever getting a flat tire is paramaount (Commuters especially!) You have to use these tires. I have a set for my Lightning F-40 (35mmx20 in the front and 28mm in the rear) and they only slow me down a little bit but then again, that bike could stand to slow down a little bit! One added bonus is that after 8 or 9 thousand miles when the tread finally wears out, you will se the blue inner layer which is a sort of built in indicator that its time to replace them. Some people say they are tough to install but they are really not if you know what you are doing and keep the bead in the deepest part of the rim. I carry a koolstop tire jack with me to make slipping the last few inches over the rim a snap!

Hi Larry,
Unfortunately, we don't carry a narrower version of this particular 20" tire. We do carry several narrower 20" (406 ISO) tires, however, including the Schwalbe Kojak and the Schwalbe Durano. They don't have quite the puncture protection these do, but they're pretty durable and tough.
Thanks, Stacia
