Great Tires

Bought these to replace worn out OEM's that came with my Giant cyclo cross bike. I couldn't be happier with the performance. I mostly ride streets and paved trails and I find the tread to be right for my use.

Thank you for your feedback.

40c not tubeless compatible

Admittedly it's my fault for not looking super closely, but given that the 32c and 35c versions are available tubeless compatible, it is kind of absurd that the 40c is not. FYI I set them up tubeless, have ridden them about 10 times, and the 40c just won't seal reliably. Enough to get through a long mixed terrain day ride, but in a few days completely flat, sometimes unseated.

Apart from the tubeless issue, the file tread center knobs seemed to wear pretty quickly. On sections that I was able to clear when the tires were new, they've lost their bite and slip out on steep loose stuff after a few hundred miles.

However they do make a decent all-arounder. A friend uses the 35c for mixed terrain day rides, leisurely day rides, and light touring, and they are a happy medium for those applications.

Personally I think the Conti 42c is a more dirt worthy all terrain tire, also non-tubeless, for half the price.

Thank you for your feedback.

Gravel Grinder in Oregon

My team mate and I just rode these in the Prineville Oregon gravel grinder. Rode the 33c, at 60psi, 120 miles, 60% gravel, 40% pavement, steep gravel climbs and descents. Saw dry and dusty conditions and some rain. These tires were incredible. Not cuts or punctures. Rolled fast on pavement and gravel!!!! Saved me on a descent when I lost focus, drifted into deep gravel, front tire started to wash out sideways then rolled over onto the side lugs. The side lugs bit down hard, traction restored I stayed upright and kept on going. The steep gravel climbs were no problem with these tires. Had good traction. These are great tires!!!!! One small thing. The center diamond pattern does wear fast on the rear. . After 120 miles of gravel and pavement it does show signs of wear on the back. I will probably get half a season racing CX from these before they are done. Still - a great tire!!!

Thank you for your feedback.

Good tire, good price. Gets the job done.

Road this tire on an 80 mile gravel grinder. Worked great. Rough gravel didn't tear it up or wear it down much at all.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great tire overall - mounts easily, decent tread life, grips on hardpack

I run these on my winter trainer cyclocross bike and love the width, weight, and look. Does the job well on hard pack, but as you might expect, slips a bit on the wet stuff. Great for the on the road then on the trail then back on the road type winter training ride.

Thank you for your feedback.

It is as its name describes - a happy medium

Bought these as a lower cost training tire to replace the Challenge Gravel Grinders I was running. They're a little narrower (35 mm vs. 38) which is good, and pretty tough. I've taken them up and down some pretty harsh roads with no problems; they roll well in the dirt, mud, and thick gravel.

My one complaint is that they don't go as well on pavement as the Challenges - I definitely feel more resistance. Then again, they're training tires, so not much surprise there, and it's not necessarily a bad thing to have to work harder.

Otherwise, always feel secure in the rough stuff, and they've taken some good hits with no problems, so I'm happy, medium-ly so.

Thank you for your feedback.

Good performance on the dry, bad avoiding thorns

The center of the tread is shallow, which make it predictable in dry conditions. I am in drought stricken California so I don't know how they handle muddy conditions. The tread is particularly poor to fighting off thorns. From one race, I caught two flats tires. Removed 8 thorns, replaced the tubes, and two more flats. Turns out I missed a few more thorns.

great for gravel, dirt and duff

If your commute or daily ride tends to lead you off pavement this is the perfect tire. rolls fast on pavement and the side knobs give you confidence when on the dirt.

OK, but slow

I bought these for my 2010 SURLY Pacer (w long reach brakes) for some riding on the logging roads of Northern Maine. Sadly, the tires were too large unless I ran them at low pressure. These days it's all about fat tireslow pressure. But for me, I'm the most happy on a pair of 700x28's pumped up to 110 psi. I will most likely give these tires away since they don't fit the SURLY. Having said all of this, they are great tires at a good price.

Thank you for your feedback.

Excellent tires for my rail trail use

I installed a pair of these 40 mm tires on my 2011 Trek 7.3 FX, and they just barely fit, but do give me a little clearance. So far they have provided me with a smooth and stable ride. They gave not given me any issues in some short stretches of sand and mud, and roll well on pavement. So far I have been riding at 65 psi which is good for my casual rides.

I have great hopes for a nice cycling season on these tires!

Thank you for your feedback.

Top Notch for gravel and cross, great all arounder.

Have been racing these for a few months on both gravel and cross. They roll great on gravel and feel secure in corners. Run around 65psi. Have raced 4 cross races, been riding around 40psi and am very pleased with these tires speed and cornering ability. Pressure could go lower but I am happy with my and the tires performance. I bought these because a buddy of mine rode them for two years on Flint Hills gravel without a problem. He was running them tubeless and what eventually failed the tire was the Stans eating away at the rubber, still two years is alot from a tire. I run tubes with Stans so that is not an issue for me.

Thank you for your feedback.

Put these tire's on your bike and enjoy,

I have been using the 40c Happy Medium tires on my Cross Bike, doing some road riding to the trail head. Love the feeling of floating over the road and confident when I need to ride in the cinders and debris on the shoulder when a Truck is passing. On the Trail, again confidence with these tires is the word in all conditions.

Thank you for your feedback.

Reasonably light with reasonable grip

I don't have a lot of other tires to compare with, and I'm not a tire reviewer. No problems. No flats this fall or winter. I didn't expect much grip from the small nubs in the center, but I was pleasantly surprised on wet leaves, muddy rocks, and some snow. I use them for training because they're cheap, but they might be light and fast enough for racing if not too deep.

Thank you for your feedback.

FLATS TOO EASILY

I purchased a set of these tires in the 35mm size for my cross bike and they were an ideal width for gravels. My riding consists of approximately 60 percent pavement and 40 percent gravel. At 800 mi the rear was completely worn slick. I have since gotten about 1000 mi. on the front and it is about gone as well. At about 200 mi, the rear tire developed a high spot on the tire and was bothersome at high speed. The biggest problem that I had with these was flats. The roads where I ride are covered with cinders in the winter time and I would flat consistently...the compound seems to be very soft. These tires have an excellent tread for gravels, cross, or even the occasional single track, however just didn't work for me with my road conditions. I have switched to a Clement Xplor USH 120tpi on the rear and am having very good luck so far.

Thank you for your feedback.

Grind it out or whatever.

I got these for the Oregon Outback. Kept them on after, they work for most conditions, probably not mud though I haven't tried. I have 700x40s running very low tire pressure off road with good results. How low? Your on your own there, buddy. Depends on a lot of variables. In my dreams this tire would be available in 29!
