Bought this for my wife after the cheapo bell she had fell apart. It seems to be well made and has a nice 2 tone chime. She needed a left-handed bell that wasn't too large and this bell is perfect.
Yeah it has a nice tone. Looks well built. But the clamp is about half the diameter of any road bike handlebars. I'm not sure what kind of bike nowadays has handlebars this small. Yeah, the description says Fits handlebars with 21.7mm - 24mm (.86 - .95) outside diameters. Maybe some people know every spec of every part on their bike, but I don't know my handlebar size, and I didn't even consider that. Why would I? It's a bell! If anything I'm upset at Biketiresdirect for not making that clearer up front.
This two-tone bell sounds great and projects its noise a long way, so it does turn heads when I use it to get someone's attention. I've positioned it so that can flick the bell with my thumb without moving my hands from the brakes. Love it!
I ordered one of these for my wife, two kids and me. I use it on my commute and it is easier to get a jogger's attention from a ways off. Better than yelling "on your left!" constantly.
While walking in Yosemite, I heard a single "ding" from somewhere, then, another. Thinking it was from the wedding across the way, I ignored it. Shortly, a very annoyed recumbent tricycle rider came upon my wife and me.
In sharp contrast, when my wife and I were riding a bike path crowded with pedestrians, all turned to see us coming when my wife rang her Incredibell Duet--the double "ding-ding" says clearly "bicycle coming" without being obtrusive.
The bell is cute and easy to operate. Don't expect to mount it on larger-diameter handlebars, because the mounting loop is small. The sound it produces is a smallish 'ping', unlike the more resonant tones of some larger bells. On the other hand, it is not obnoxious. The bell works fine for one of my bikes (would not fit on either of two others) and would be excellent for a child's bike.
Great looking brass bell. Easy to ring and sounds just right.
Just be sure to know the diameter of the bar your mounting it on.
It would not work anywhere on my newer carbon bike. I got it on the stem of my old steel Italian bike, wouldn't fit the bars.
