use this for training and racing, keeps me going

My cousin introduced me to perpetum last yr while we trained for our first ironman. I was getting tired of gels and bars, and this stuff worked great. I usually put about 600 cal in a bottle, and it gets me through 2-3hrs of trainingracing. On the bike, it is really easy for me to continue getting the calories I need without hassling with a bar or gel. I enjoy all the flavors, but it does taste a little nasty on hot days. On hot days, I usually mix it a hr before I ride and place in the freezer so it stays colder longer and the taste doesnt get bad.

Thank you for your feedback.

Best product for long rides races

For rides races greater than 3 hours, I have found that Hammer Perpetuem keeps me going longer and stronger than any other product that I have tried. For me, the carb to protein mix is perfect. I supplement with a second bottle of 50% gatorade or similar product and then a Gu or two when I am gearing up for a climb or a sprint to get something higher octane into the system.

It is a bit expensive, though. I use about 1.5 scoopshr and that is on the high side of the price spectrum for me, especially if I am also using some gatorade and Gu packs.

I follow the mix directions, and while I thought I would hate the thick mix, I ended up really liking it. Plus, I like the OrangeVanilla flavor. Goes down great.

Thank you for your feedback.

Best that I've Found

I've tried quite a few endurance drinks, and this one is by far my favorite. I was definitely losing muscle mass during longer rides prior to using this, and the protein included in the drink seems to keep my body from cannibalizing my own muscle on rides of over 4-5 hours. I know taste is a very personal matter, but I find the Orange Vanilla flavor to be quite nice. The only drawbacks to this product are 1) it doesn't stay mixed well in the bottle, so you'll have to shake the bottle a little each time, and 2) it won't last in your bottle all day. Its fine for 4-5 hours, but much longer than that, and it starts to turn nasty. I now use it in the CamelBak Podium Ice bottles. Fill one with 2 scoops of this, as much ICE as you can fit in, top it off with water, and it'll be good even 5 hours into the ride.

Thank you for your feedback.

good stuff with a nasty taste - cut it half 'n half with something sweet!

just starting to come around to the "protein drink on longer rides" approach, having had some problems with gut bombs from too many sandwiches on hotter days

i find this stuff undrinkable straight, but cut 5050 with something like orange cytomax, add ice, and you've got a creamsicle shake in the water bottle that will keep you running strong - found it just the ticket on this year's stp along with extra salt!, which was somewhat hot and headwindy from miles 100150

of course low-fat chocolate milk also works quite well when available -

Thank you for your feedback.

Good product if you use as described in Hammer book or online site

This product worked for me. Eliminated power drops and sugar rushes I was having on long rides.

1. Heads-up Use guidance from Hammer's "The Endurance Athlete's Guide to Success". Also great learning on excess hydration. Otherwise this is a waste of money.

2. Heads-up Need to test how much to use how often during ride. A sip every 15 minutes works for me. After 4 hours I find a need to cut back to less. After 8 hours found I need some solid food.

I need the blender to mix, put it in the freezer the night before doesn't freeze at the concentrations I use.

Thank you for your feedback.

Works for me

There aren't all that many supplements with protein and fat, and Perpetuem works for me better than any I've tried, at a better price than most. I start taking in Perpetuem, at least in part, after about 3 hours and use it for rides up to 10 hours, which is kind of the upper end of me trying to ride without consuming 'real food'. Four stars instead of five because I don't love the texture and because of occasional mild stomach issues, but the latter could be simple exertional issues whereas the former is (I think) a commonality of all powders with fat and/or protein, so maybe I'm being unfair. Also, I wish they had a couple more flavor options. Anyway, after all that, I recommend this product.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great long endurance training fuel

This doesn't give me the syrupy sugar goo mouth like other mixes can on long rides a few hours or more long. I like that it doesn't contain the typical sugars so it doesn't create insulin response issues or promote tooth rot. The flavor is just enough ( I like the orange ). On race day it's not my choice though, I switch to the sugar mixes for easier digestion / absorption and I have electrolytes in the mix. I'll do a couple long training rides with the sugary mixes before the race to make sure my stomach is ready for it.

Thank you for your feedback.

No more Bonking

I used 2 servings of this today and I literally couldn't bonk. I stopped taking water and salts to try to stop my workout but kept running for an hour and a half after. I did 58 miles on the bike and 16.2 miles on the treadmill, and this was 6 days off a marathon. Usually I feel defeated after a longer workout but I noticed a much better state of mind as well.

Energy in a bottle. Perfect supplement for those long training rides. Easy to mix and easy to drink.

I first began using Hammer Perpetuem while training for a grueling five day ride in the Negev Desert. I knew that the ride itself would require supplemental calories and protein to preserve muscle strength over the long haul. I had previously relied on gels and energy drinks which were largely sugar and electrolyte based and knew that I needed more substance to deal with the desert heat and climbing. I like the added boost that Perpetuem provided particularly on back to back hard rides that I used it more and more as the training intensified. Now that I have completed the ride I see Perpetuem as a mainstay of my training nutrition regimen and a must for long multiday rides.

Thank you for your feedback.

This is my go-to product for endurance training

For all my bike rides in excess of two hours, this is what I mix into my aero-bottle. I still supplement with endurolites or other electrolyte supplement.

Verdict is still out

Each time I use this product, I see to burp a lot... Not sure at this time if it is all that different than other, similar products.... Still hoping for more results.

Makes long rides so much more doable.

Chocolate flavor mixes things up and does not leave as much after taste as other flavors.

The missing link

This has been the missing link. I typically use electrolyte drinks like cytomax on long (over 2hrs) rides. However, I still bonk here and there. After using Perpetuem, Im able to ride for much much longer when I use it as directed (4hr-8hr rides).

Thank you for your feedback.

I can't bonk with this powder.

I take this on days when I'm going to be in the saddle for 4+ hours. This powder helps me power thru to the end.

I don't roll without my perpetuem

I first experienced this product when my LBS suggested me a trial pack before a training ride. Since then I have relied on this to keep me going on any my 60 mile ride where the pace is expected to remain in the mid 20's. I can't digest much in the early mornings, so if I need a little push to help sustain me on the weekly group rides that almost rival a cat 4-3 type training race, I will also occasionally use Perpetuem for these shorter but stout rides.

I can no longer find my favorite coffee flavor, but the typical orange cream works well. I like the fact that it is a natural product and will go bad after preparation if not consumed in a couple of hours. I'm always worried of foods that never expire.

Thank you for your feedback.

Excellent for longer rides

A friend who is an ultra marathoner recommended this product to me after I mentioned that I sometimes just seemed to hit the wall very quickly on some of my longer bike rides (4-6 hours). Often I need to pack all of my own foodcalories because there are no stores or other sources of food in the remote areas where I most like to train.

Perpetuem has been a nice discovery. It provides long lasting energy, can be carried in several forms (in your water bottle, as paste in small flask, or as powder), and won't make you nauseous. If you have water sources along your route you can go a long long way without packing a lot of weight or bulk (you MUST take in a considerable amount of water along with Perpetuem or you won't be able to digest it).

My friend also recommended that I read through the Hammer website. I hadn't paid a lot of attention to nutritional needs before but found the Hammer documents to be outstanding. They gave me a much deeper understanding of the general needs of long distance cyclists as well as how those needs could be met by specific Hammer products.

Thank you for your feedback.
