One of my favorite clinchers.

I think I've used just about every race tire we've got. This one is different. The Tricomp rubber layering gives this tire a really unique road feel. It's more like a 'foamy' feel than a 'balloony' feel, if that makes any sense at all. The final product is supple and grippy without being super thin or short-lived, making this a great racertrainer for the cyclist who doesn't want to change his tires every Monday morning after racing on Sunday.

great tire for everyday riding and racing

I had used these tires for 5 years with only 1 flat. Micheline pros came on my BMC and i had three flats in three months. I have thrown the Micheline's out. I'll stick with the tri comp

Careful when cleaning

I bought my Fortezzas in orange love, as they are one of the few tires available in that color. So far, I've ridden 1,500 training miles on them this year on pavements ranging from clean highways to grotty municipal bike trails, and have found they have held up well. Just a few cuts on the rear tire, but no embedded glass and no evidence that cuts go through tire wall. For reference, I am 200 lbs. and inflating the tires to 100-120 psi.

Concerning grip, I've ridden the Fortezzas on road temps ranging from 20-100 F, and felt confident at speeds up to 40 mph. I slightly prefer the handling characteristics, particularly in corners, one reader described as "foamy" as opposed to "balloony"to the GP 4000s I usually use. The GPs are tougher, but I'm more confident on the Fortezzas.

One caveat Take care when cleaning these tires. I tried to remove road tar from the sidewall using a rag soaked in "citrus" drivetrain degreaser and instead removed the nifty Vredestein badging a white smear remains. Haven't had this problem with other tires I've used mainly Specialized, Bontrager and Continental.

The Vredestein Fortezza TriComp is the best tire for dependable performance.

The Vredestein Fortezza TriComp are the best tires I have found for fast training and riding in events such as the Etape du Tour, Markleeville Death Ride and the Mt. Baker Hill Climb. Although they are expensive, slightly heavier than some racing tires, and are not the longest lasting tire, they are light enough, ride great and last a season. I have owned expensive Continental, Vittoria and Michelin tires and never found a tire I liked as well. Except for my bicycle commuting, I ride on the TriComps when training and during events because I tune my bikes including the tires toward the highest level of dependable performance that I can achieve.

Additionally, like the people who actually have to buy their own tires unlike the top racers who are younger and lighter than me I like to ride on 25mm, as opposed to 23mm, tires. Finally, occasionally I can find the 25mm Vredestein tires in colors that match my bikes. I may never look as good on a bike as I imagine, but my wife did take a picture of me cresting the Col du Tourmalet on a beautiful blue bike with sharp looking blue tires that comes close.

Excellent performance, handling and durability

At more than 200 I originally was attracted to Vred's by the high pressure rating and so low rolling resistance. After riding them for more than 7 years I still use them almost exclusively because I have so few flats and they corner like they're on rails. I am confident riding these tires down hills nearing 60 mph and routinely corner at 40-50.

One reviewer mentioned the rear tire wearing fast. Two things 1 your rear tire carries nearly 90% of your weight so it will wear faster than the front. 2 You rotate the tires on your car right? Why wouldn't you do the same on your bike? Swap the front to the rear every 1000 to 1500 miles and put new ones on every 2500 to 3000 miles. You don't think I go 55 down hills on bald tires do you??

As for cost, I think they're worth it. But I also usually throw in with a friend and buy 10 every time to get the price break.maybe you should too! He then sends some to friends in Taipei who can't get them there, but love the tires because they hold up so well on the crappy roads they have there.

3 seasons, 5000 miles, no flats!

I love these tires and recommend them to friends. They are well worth the price. I used to go through about 10 flats per year, so i carried 2 tubes at all times. I have since given away most of my tubes helping fellow cyclists and have not had a single flat. I am 185 pounds and keep the pressure at 140 front and rear. BUY THEM!

11,000 Miles over 3 years

I don't have anything bad to say about these tires. I use the same tires for club rides, training and racing. I use the darklight gray tires exclusively. I weigh 155 lbs and have felt safe on them at all speeds and in cornering. I have not had a single casing rupture, which did occur in a competing brand. I use 700x23's which are more comfortable at 140 psi my usual pressure then the Michelins that I used to ride at 120 psi. I have ridden these tires in races at the rated max psi of 175 with no problem and no particular discomfort Your Mileage May Vary on that. The roads that we travel on are about 75% chip sealedoiled which are a rough until they wear down after a few years, with the remaining being smoother hot mix blacktop. At least 4 friends and I ride these tires exclusively, logging 3-7,000 milesyear on our bikes, and we experience only a few flats it helps to avoid the grit at the very edge of the road.

These are durable, comfortable and have good grip in the wet and dry.

I got 3000 miles out of my last set, and I am riding on my third set. I use these to train and race, even ride on gravel roads. In three sets, I have had one flat due to penetration, and two due to pinching racing on gravel roads. I ride the 700x 23 and inflate them to 100- 120psi front and 120-140 rear

A great road tire!

I ride very hilly terrain on lousy road surfaces. They are positive on the road and the pressure rating and rubber compounds provide low rolling resistance. I can count on one hand the punctures 2 I've had in the last 5 years since I switched to these tires. 2,500 - 3,000 miles a year.

These tires are simply the best, buy them!

I ride at least 60 to 100 miles a week. These tires are simply the best I have ever had on my bike. They are very smooth and handle corners like a Ferrari. The high PSI ratings are a nice feature, but you don't need to pump them that high if you don't need to. I am 190 lbs and keep them at a normal 120psi per tire. So far I have over 400 miles on my red colors, with zero problems, no flats as well. Be patient when putting these tires on if you are new. If you have experience with mounting various tires, you wont have a problem. Start at the top and work your way round the tire, seating each lip. Not only are these tires functional for every type of riding Race to casual touring, they look great too!

Nice Job!

So far the best tire for grip, puncture resistance and ride quality...

Best I've used. I only replace them because they're so darn old, not because they fail or lose grip. A little heavier than other options in the price point...but for training, commuting, or racing, I don't thing there is a more reliable tire with the grip and puncture resistance of the TriComp.

great tire

I have put over 3K miles on a set of these tires without a problem. I do rotate front to back at 1500 miles. I have had a few cuts but nothing serious. I really like the handling. I run them at 140 psi and find they corner like a dream. The only flat I had this summer was caused by a defective tube valve popped! Hopefully I won't jinx myself going forward. I used to run Michelins and Vitorias but prefer these overall. I run the all black. Some guys have told me the color sidewalls are not as durable. I don't know if that is the case or not.

The only tire I'll buy

I first bought these tires in 2002 on sale after reading the reviews. Didnt think much about them until I rode through a then normally exciting turn that wasnt too exciting anymore. After checking my speed though it the next time I realized it was the tires that made the curve effortless!

After one or two emergency maneuvers where the bike had no right to stay upright and on the road but did, I decided that these tires are expensive, but my life is worth it!

Im about 140 lbs and keep the tires at about 8 bar (about 127 psi). I had only one flat when I didnt notice that the back tire was worn through to the casing, after about 2000 miles. Now I check the back one after every ride once I reach about 1800 miles on it.

I ride in all temperature conditions here in the northeast, but I dont ride on wet roads or in the rain, (light snow is ok), and havent noticed any decrease in the tires performance.

So, for the past 8 years and over 20,000 miles theyre the only tire Ive ridden or will ride on, basically because theyve held the road and handled at times when it really didnt seem possible, and Im VERY glad they did!

BTW, I guess Im a traditionalist, Black on Black for me...

Awesome... just awesome!

Replaced my stock Bonty Race Lites 60 tpi with these 120 tpi what a huge difference! These tires feel like they roll up faster, they ride far smoother, and corner like they're made of SuperGlue!

With 1,000 miles on them, the front looks like it's brand new the rear has started to wear and flatten out in the center. I'm not quite sure how many miles to expect from these tires, but given that it's a race tire I certainly don't expect the 3,000 miles I got with the Bontys.

There's a lot of discussion about tire pressure in these reviews. I tried different pressures and settled on 110 front 120 rear. They maintain a nice ride quality and I didn't notice any benefit from running higher pressures. I'm on the ligheter side at 5'9" and 137 lbs.

Downsides? They feel a little slick in wet weather, so adjust your speeds accordingly. They don't last as long as tires with harder compounds, so budget more for replacements. Lastly, it seems like these things are FLYING off the shelves, so you might want to buy a few extras. ^

Excellent tires

I have over 9,000 miles on these tires and only one flat - from hitting a rock. Excellent grip, even in the wet. I am averaging about 3,500 miles by rotating front and rear. I run at a high pressure 155-160lb and no problems - long rides, sprints, racing.

BETTER THAN MICHELINS

I've ridden Conti, Panaracer, Hutchinson, Specialized, Maxxis, and Vittoria. These are BY FAR the best roadies tread you're going to use. They have as good of ride quality as a Michelin even though they're at higher pressures, and they last almost twice as long....plus they're a little less expensive too.

I will definitely buy more Fortezzas in the future!

After reading other reviews, I felt confident in buying these, especially since they were on sale at the time. I love them better than any tire I have had. I have ridden through thunderstorms and pouring rain to blistering heat on the road and they have performed better than expected. I have taken downhills at nearly 60 mph on fairly good roads and they gripped the road extremely well. I have pulled little pieces of glass out of the tire, but no holes. I train and ride in bike events with this tire. It is smooth on the pavement and provides less effort in pedaling. I will by more when the time comes.

Good looking, and tough - but doesn't last long

As others say, these tires are great performers. But I have to say, my rear tire lasted 1000 miles used for commuting, which is the fastest I've burned through in my 10 years of riding. Don't know if it were a defect 'cause front tire looks damn near new still. But I'm not going to spend another $50 to find out.

Product reference standard?

68 to 73kg cyclist during the over 10,000km usage within 58kmh max speed, no puncture, and anticipats perhaps another 5000km service life left first 8000km as rear tyre before switching to front wheel when Panaracer found to be slippery

Other brands used Vittoria Rubino Pro slick punctures like hobby as front tyre, Panaracer Stradius Sports semi-slick slippery as front tyre, Kenda lightest but cracks showing up as front tyre, Bontrager Select semi-click almost all tread worn out within a month slippery as rear tyre. Now testing Schwalbe Blizzard Neo Pro as rear tyre

Feel great, don't last long.

I love the way these tires ride. They roll like records and grip like velcro. I've never ridden a faster feeling tire. They wear out like a cheap suit. I have had two sets of these and have blown the rear tire completely out before hitting 1000 mi.

Best tires I've ridden on !

I'd ridden mostly Vittoria and Continentals until I stumbled onto a set of these. Since then, I've ridden nothing but these, and they are on both my bikes. Racing or commuting, they rock! They wear well, are good in the wet and last on city streets, while riding better than anything else in the same pricetpi range.

Get some!!

Ride quality, feel and road holding similar to a tubular.

I compete in Ultra Marathon events so the supple ride and reliability of these tires means everything to me. Tread life is as good as any performance tire I've ever ridden and they don't seem to lose their suppleness as the tread wears down. Other tires may perform as well when new, but the quality of the tire's casing (or lack of it) becomes apparent in about 1,200 miles. These are fast tires yet, IMO, not at all prone to flats. At or near their list price, they're easily are as good as anything in their price range. When BTD is selling them for $29.99, you'd be crazy to by anything else. Buy 10 and put them in the basement until you need them. I'm one of three people in my club who do.

If you hate flats and just want to ride, buy these.

I rode about 12,000 miles this season. I went through 2 sets of these for about 3000 miles on each )racingtraining during the season. I had zero flats in races and in training using these. I used other tires in between and got several flats. I spoke with a tech last year and they knew their tires. I ended up choosing these and have been very satisfied. I'm actually sponsored by another tire company but choose to buy these instead.

As good as any of the other top quality racing tires.

I bought these tires because I don't use race wheels, and wanted a nice set of tires that would be race quality, yet also durable. Coupled with Ksyrium SLs, these tires have been fantastic. I use my Tricomps for everything - training, racing and sometimes commuting. I have logged 3,700 miles in New England on this set with zero punctures and an average amount of cuts. I swapped the rear and front at about 2,000 miles. At this point, the center tread is pretty flat on both tires, so they're pretty much toast. I could probably get plenty of more mileage out of them before the treads start to show through, but I never push it that far with tires. I would say their durability on par with Gatorskins and better than both Conti 4000, with which I've had sidewall issues, and Vittoria Open Corsas, which are nice, but not for everyday riding.

Rolls like 130psi, feels like 100PSI

These are by far my favorite tires. I've owned dozens on multiple bikes over the years. Most of the other reviews cover all the good things about these tires, but my summary is simple. I run them at 120 PSI and they feel as compliant and grippy as most other tires feel at 100 PSI, with the minimal rolling resistance of a 120 PSI tire. Even at 130 PSI they feel kinda soft-ish, which is amazing.

They wear pretty well, too. Like many others here, I see nicks and little cuts in the outer rubber as the tires get used, but the only flats I've gotten are the ones that would kill any tire - roofing nail straight in, glass shards into the sidewall, etc. I have a 10-year old set of these in 700x25 that I just can't seem to wear out - they've been on 4 bikes and have at least 4000 miles on them, but they still look like they could go another 1000 miles.

I have been very happy with the performance of these tires

I ride to and from work, approximately 9 miles each direction, as well as weekend rides, and several century rides each year. Some of the roads I ride on are rough with loose gravel and occasional bits of glass. The tires are performing at least as well as high end Continental Grand Prix tires. I have been very pleased with them.

Best all Around tire for a great Price......

tried other products, but best all around tire!! You don't need to take off these tires when racing just keep them on a kill it. I got 3500 miles out of the set but you need to rotate ever 600 miles to get this mileage. I also only flattened once with super light tubes. They seem to look like 25c tires out of the box but it seems to help your cornering. They have the feel of the PRO3 but last forever. BikeTiresDirect.com should carry the tubular version of this product.

outstanding tires in all conditions. Great wear life, durable, and light!

These are amazing tires! This is the second set that I've purchased, the first set gave me around 800 miles and I only got one flat toward the end of their life. The price was great and they shipped right away.

Great tire, excellent value for the price.

Excellent high pressure clincher which I use for everyday cycling. I usually can get 2,000 miles out of a back tire. Much better in the rain in terms of flats than some of the other tires I have tried. Overall I think an excellent value for the price.

Perfect road tire for the art of cycling, not so much for commuting

These are high quality tires hand made in Germany. They have somehow made a perfect balance of rugged reliability and performance handling. You will notice a big difference in your usual ride because these tires bring out the true qualities of your bikes geometry. Kind of like trying on a well cut leather coat after you have lost weight and worked out over the year.

This tire is also very rugged. I have 2 sets of them on my Felt over the course of about 3 years and can only remember changing one flat, and that was at the very end of the lasts sets life when the tread began to show.

Unless your commute is a beautiful winding path with stunning views that you are in no hurry to get across, I would save this set for your weekend treat and get something that will chew up all of the crap that seems to find its way on the downtown paths... perhaps some gatorskins or possibly the 4 seasons tire by this same company.

Solid, fast, nice-riding tire

I was interested in trying these out, so I purchased a set to use on my travel bike. The wheels on that bike are based on Velocity's A23 23mm-wide rim, and the TriComp's tread pattern seems perfectly suited to the wider contact patch that the rim affords. So far I am extremely pleased with them. With 750 miles on them, so far durability seems fine, as does puncturecut-resistance (and I know I've ridden through glass). They roll fast and feel grippy and confident in turns - fast, technical descents or winding roads in a fast-moving pace line, these tires feel right at home.

I can't speak to their handling in rainy conditions, but they seem fine here in San Francisco where the roads are often damp from the fog.

Worth noting, I have never ridden these tires on a garden-varienty 19mm-wide rim. But these are hands-down my favorite so far on 23mm-wide rims.

Great Tire Great Price

I purchased a Cannondale SuperSix this season that came with Schwalbe Luganos. After about 150 miles the stock tires were feeling very sluggish. I switched to the tri comp and will not change again (until these wear out ). I am 240lbs and 6'3 so the back tire has worn more than front as expected but these tires are great nonetheless. I ride these in local crits and on long touring rides. They handle al conditions well, including the gravel on the sides of local roads to bumpy brick roads through towns.

best i've tried

have used various different brands of tires over the years. these are the best. i am a larger rider and like the higher pressure of these tires. even with the higher pressure they roll easily and comfortably. in 4 yrs on these tires (3 sets)i have never had a flat. i ride about 2000 miles a season. i ride them 145 psi but in the past rode them at 160 for extended periods without a problem. i ride evo corsa 320's on a second set of wheels. they are also great.

Fantastic upgrade over my stock tires

This is the only tire I have had experience with other than the factory stock tires. I made the purchase after several flats and a near wipeout on a wet bridge. I put in between 80-100 miles a week and I have not had a flat since upgrading them 5 months ago. I can now ride across wet bridges with confidence. Buying on BTD has been a great experience as well.

Wife's Favorite Tire

We use these tires on my wife's Dura Ace 7850 wheels and on the Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels on her older bike. She prefers these tires to any other she has ever ridden. They look good, ride great and last a long time with her 125 pound weight. She has put over 7,000 miles on these tires on her new bike without a flat and only a few superficial cuts. Not sure how many thousand miles on her older bike with these tires but we have had no flats on it either. Great tires.

I will second what another reviewer has said about cleaning them. I like to keep clean tires and once, just once, I used a citrus based spray cleaner on these tires and it faded the labeling a noticeable amount. Another time I mistakenly grabbed a popular spray cleaner which contained a mild Clorox addition and it faded the label completely out. Use plain 409 or Fantastic and there will be no problem no matter how often you clean them.

We recommend these tires. They perform so well for my wife that she will no longer use any other tire.

Awesome tire at a great price

If you can get a pair of these in the 40 dollar range go for it. I have rolled through 3 sets of these and also have tried GP 4000 and Pro Race 3's. What sets these apart is the plush ride and that they can go up to 175 psi and my floor pump only goes to 160. I ride mine about 145 range and they feel fast. They ride like tubulars and are very smooth. Excellent color selection, but anything not black does get dirty easier. The newer models have the logo in larger letters on the tire and look better than older models.

Won't buy any other

I have been riding these for about 8 years. I won't buy another tire. Dependable and durable (and I am 250 pounds), ride well, turn on a dime, and look great. If they were a bit less expensive, it would be a no brainer to buy these.

I have been pleased with the performance of these tires.

Got these on deal at BTD and have so far been impressed with the contact feel and durability after 500 miles. Have challanged them with broken glass and debris wo any problems. I can run higher pressures with confidence and with a surprisingly smooth ride. Good value if you can find them at promotional pricing. Bike matching red sidewalls are spiffy too. I'm moving my Conti's to the spare position and sticking with these.

Best handling clincher on the planet.

I've been using this tire since 1999. It's susceptible to minor cuts on the tread, but it doesn't affect the insanely awesome handling. Blasting down tight and twisty mountain roads and cornering in fast criteriums is a breeze. Other brands, in same situations, cause me to DRIFT away from the apex of a turn instead of allowing me to hold my line. Im 6ft 145 pounds and the ride is quite comfortable at max psi. They dont last as long as other choices, so I recommend them as race or safety tires (for high-speeddangerous cornering.) I use the black and the orange treads. In my opinion its the best handling and most supple clincher on earth.

Nice ride at high pressure. holds high speed conering well. Easy to change road puncture.

Fair price for a real good road tire. At higher pressure this tire still provides a soft but stable feel. Conors well and remain stable for high speed desents. Tire ware is above average if you rotate the tires front to back every 400 hundred miles. Overall good tire for an excellant price.

Not reliable for the price

I've been riding these tires for the past 3 years. I like they way they ride, they handle well and roll fast. However, I have had just too many catastrophic failures with these tires and have finally decided to try something else. Twice I've had a tire sidewall completely blow out withing 50 miles of initial installation on my bike. Today, I had the tire bead separate from a tire that had 1000 miles on it. This tire was installed on the front of my bike so it wasn't showing much wear at this point. I ride on mountain roads around Boulder, CO a lot and just don't want to risk this type of failure on a decent. Fortunately, this time it occurred in the flats at the beginning of a ride.

Disappointed in the longevity

I'm wondering if I got a bad tire or something because I read all the reviews and everyone has had such a different experience than I did. I put new tires on and had 6 flats in 500 miles. It got a flat side to it very quickly on the rear tire (same as all the flats). I'm a bigger guy (200lbs) so rear tires do go rather quickly for me, but not in 500 miles. I usually get about 2000 miles before a rear tire is shot. I will not be buying these tires in the future.

Love them

Once I switched to these tires from the OEM tires on my Trek I was able to tell a huge difference, almost like getting a new bike. I have done at least 400 miles on them and recently completed two sixty mile rides and my first 100 mile ride last weekend. I have gone from smooth city to really rough country roads (glass, rusty bolts, pot holes, gravel, etc). The tires handle great, absorb the shocks well and have not had a puncture even when the junk on the road merited one. I bought these based on the reviews from other folks and have been really pleased that the positive comments people make are consistent with my experience. I recommend these to my friends when they think of replacing their tires.

Pink Sidewalls and Durability, what else do you need?

I like this tire and have used it on my bike. I got it for my wife's bike because it comes with pink sidewalls! We both like the durability, she because she's not good at changing flats and me because I like racing triathlons on these. Finally, I am over 200lbs., so I like that I can pump up the pressure in these and avoid blowing spokes. I do think they are a little expensive, so the value got 3 stars instead of 5.

After buying nearly every high quality road trainingracing dual duty tire for my wife we finally tried a set of the Tricomps in white on my wifes Specialized Amira and they road smoother, faster and are more flat resistant than previous tires she has tried which included multiple models from Vittoria which was her previous favorite but gets punctures a bit easy, but ride very nicely, Continental 4000s her least favorite due to harsh ride though very durable, Specialized Turbo Pro Nice, but not as smooth of a ride nor as puncture resistant?

Fast, fast, and fast!

I haven't had a chance to put as many miles on these as I would have liked, but that's no reflection on the tires. They're pretty awesome. I've probably ridden 400 miles on these tires so far (including a century) and they've been holding up great. The ride quality is awesome (even pumped up to 130psi you don't get the jarring, its very smooth), the tires are very fast and I haven't had any problems with flats. They also corner really really well. Two huge thumbs up.

Speedy Pink Tires!

WOW!!!! My fiance and I did the Ironman in Madison Wisconsin this past September. I have a black and white men's carbon fiber specialized bike (cause it fit better than the women's). To make it more chic appropriate, I added hot pink handle bar tape and bought these awesome tires!! I wanted killer pink) Not princess pink. These tires are perfect! When I researched them, most reviewers commented on how fast they were. Some said they had issues with flats. I got them a month before the race and finished my training and the race on them. No flats (although they only have a few hundred miles on them). And...HOLY COW THEY ARE FAST!! The tires I had on my bike before were the ones put on in the factory. I increased my avg speed by 2 mph. Smooth ride. And best of all, we finished together and got engaged at the finish line!

That was some race. Congratulations!

This is a smooth rolling, low resistance tire with great traction

This is my do everything tire. I use it for everyday rides and on weekends when there is an event. I like the fact that you can really max out on the tire pressure for better rolling resistance or go minimum and take some of the road shock out. I have had some cuts in the tread but no flats. I hope to get many miles out of this tire.

Great durability. Great performance

I ride 200 to 250 miles a week with a 7 mile climb on every ride. These tires last and perform awesome. I have had very few flats on these tires and I live in the land of goat head stickers. I tried the schwalbe zx tire and cut sidewall of both tire within a month. I came back for my third set of TriComps. That's the last time I try to fix something thats not broke.

Helps in need for speed

These tires are outstanding and they roll super fast. I picked up almost 2 mph on my average speeds. The high psi rating helps in the rolling resistance. They wear well and look great. I used them for Grand Fondo's and training.

Just like the other positive reviews. Really good tires - especially on sale BikeTiresDirect!

I read the reviews, and have to agree with the best ones. I bought these tires on sale for the Lake Tahoe Triathlon. They worked great, and there were some pretty technical downhill turns on the course. These did the job - I weigh 210!

AND they're blue so they match my bike!

I typically ride 25-40 miles, three timesweek, on roads & some paved trails. These tires have great puncture & low rolling resistance 110-120 psi. I can easily get 1500-1800 miles out of a set, swapping front to back a couple times.

Smooth, fast ride with incredible wear!

I commute 30 miles per day as well as take long rides on weekends. Put these tires on my bike after using Michelin Pro3's and Schwalbe Lugano's. Like the Pro3 for the smooth fast ride but very susceptible to flats. The Schwalbe's were heavy and slow. I get the smooth fast roll of the Michelin Pro3's but the durability of the heavy Schwalbe tires.

Rolled through some broken glass a few times and the Vredestein's won the battle.

Great tire!

I have been using this tire for over a year now and I have no reason to change. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Good mileage and a truly smooth ride with good corner performance and wet road reliability...all very important to a 200 lb rider. I also find the rim fit to be consistant, unlike some other imports.

Well worth paying a little bit more for.

I have been sing these tires for years. They have good traction and I have had had very few flats. This may be due to the high pressure 120psi that I inflate them to. Several members in my club have switched to them.

I rode my first Vredestein's for one year with no flats at all. I literally wore them out without having one flat! They roll nicely and grip just enough on cornering. I hope Vredestein continues to produce quality tires.

Just installed these on my Zipp 404's. Normally, I run Conti 4000S, but with all of the positive feedback I've been getting on these tires, I thought I would give them a try. I am glad that I did.

I really like how these feel on the road. They feel supple and they corner well. I really like they way they handle on the road.

I cannot vouch for the durability yet, as I only have a few hundred miles on them.

Have used TriComps for past five years and particularly like the low rolling resistance.

I have used the tires on both my Trek Madone and Fezzari Road Bikes and have been particularly impressed with the capacity to fill the tires with 145 plus psi reducing road contact significantly. Have noticed reduced road resistance resulting in increased speed particularly on flats and descents. Only complaint would be that they seem to wear rather quickly, particularly the rear tire. I normally feel the need to change them after 1000 miles which, considering the price, reduces overall value. I ride about 5000 miles each year including some racing.

A long-lasting tire that's fast!

These are great long-wearing tires. I pump them to 9 bar and that is below their max tire pressure. As well as being long-wearing, they're fast with low rolling resistance. Also, with these tires, I rarely get flats! I like riding centuries and longer rides so flat tires are a real drag.

Great reliable tire that is suitable for racing. Have never had a flat during a race and they're great over rougher country roads.

I have used these tires for about 13 years now and have stuck with them because they provide good value ride wise in that they rarely puncture but still roll well for racing. As a girl, I love the colour choices and have tried just about every hue - although pink is my favorite, closely followed by the blue (which matches my carbon Trek very nicely). The price that they are sold for by Bike Tires Direct is great. I live in the Australian outback and you have to ensure that you buy a tire that is up to the rougher road surfaces out here - obviously after 13 years they have proven themselves. I get good mileage out of them with good race pace and the ever important reliability during a race. Generally I only get the slow punctures when the tires need replacing. Love em!

The best tire I have ever ridden!

I ride - a LOT - and want tires that wear well and are as puncture resistant as is reasonably possible. These meet and exceed my expectations. And the added bonus is that they have less rolling resistance than any other tire I've ridden. It's made me faster, especially on the flats and downhills!

Roll with these babies....

After I ran over a large rock on the side of the road with my rear wheel thus causing a snake bite flat (why is it always the rear tire) I quickly changed the tube and rode an additional 40 miles on that ride. The next ride I was on I saw a breach in the sidewall of the rear tire causing a noticable bulge that was obviously caused by hitting the rock (I hit that sucker a ton I'm just saying).

I noticed this bulge halfway through a metric century and finished it just fine. Next day I rode another 40-miler with no problem. After over 140 miles with a cut that large in the casing I replaced it with a new one. Probably could have kept riding it anyway but no need taking a chance. No tire would have survived the hit it took on that rock and many would have been trash right there on the spot but not these.

The best I've used yet

I had been using Michelin Krylion Carbons for years and really got sick of them developing flat spots after approx 500 miles, so I gave these a try based on the good reviews. These tires ride like a dream, but they really shine on wet surfaces. I live in Florida and get caught in my share of summer storms and these hug the road like it's dry. Just beware of the fact that they say you can pump them up to 175 lbs.. Do that and you are asking for a flat, not to mention the fact that they must feel like frozen garden hoses. I tried one at 130 lbs and blew out the sidewall on a sliver of road debris. I weigh 180 and run mine at 95-100 and they ride great. I'm basing my value rating on a sale price of $45.00-. At the retail price of $69.00, I'd lower the star rating to 2 because I think it is just too much for any tire.

Great tires. Good grip, long-lasting

I've been training and racing on Vred's Fortezza TriComps for the last 10 years and have only excellent experiences to recount. They resist puncture admirably well and roll and grip as well as any other. You can run very high pressure if you so desire though I suspect there is little reason to run them at their maximum. I've had few punctures in all this time despite often running last season's tires though into the early-mid spring (including trainer time!) Good value for money in a great performance tire. You'll find them for the best price here too.

Great tires. I ride about 150 miles per week. They improved my average speed from 18.6 mph to 21.8 mph! Very impressed. My last tires only filled to 120 psi. The 145 psi makes a huge difference! No flats either. Everyone on the team has complimented the color (orange) which matches my bike. Many have also gone out and purchased the same tires in a vibrant color that matches their bikes. Great for training and racing, with few flats.

I've used TriComp tires for 4 years now, both training and racing. I've had the fewest flats of any tires except Conti Gatorskins(which I use in the winter). They are great all around tires. The only fault I found is they have a little less grip in wet conditions than others.

Greatexcept for price increase

I have been riding these tires almost exclusively for 10 years and can count the number of flats due to the tires on one hand. At the risk of jinxing myself, it has been 2 yrs since I had a flat. I get over 3000 miles on them without seeing the puncture belt showing up. My weight ranges from 155 to 145, a bit of the Jan Ullrich winter symptom, as it's tough to ride thru the winter snow.I generally run between 125-130 psi. My only concerns are that 1) Vredestein quit making the green version (to match my bike) and 2) the $10 per tire price jump from last year.

Corners great, less filling!

I first bought the Fortezza TriComp as a less expensive alternative to the fine Continental 4000S. Now I ride it because it feels good. I use it as my all around training tire, and I've used it for one century ride. It's a hair heavier than the Continental, and I think it wears a bit faster, but it corners as well or better than the 4000. It will take higher pressures too. I feel as connected to the road on these tires as I've ever felt. Nice colors also, if you're into exterior decorating.

Very high quality tire worth the money!

I have had three sets of these tires. All have performed well and have had only one flat. I ride 2,000 to 2,500 miles per year and one set lasts the year. I love being able to ride at 145psi. A little expensive but worth the money.

the best tires I have ever owned

I use these tires on my bike to commute and for a leisurely rides. I can definitely tell the difference between these and my old tires as these tires are much faster and a whole lot better at cornering, you can take corners very fast and as they grip and hug the road. If you ride to commute, for sport or just for fun, I highly recommend these!

Great tires

I use Vredestein Fortezza TriComp all year and on all types of rides, roads, etc. They are great tires. They roll nicely and are light. I've had only a minimal number of flats. They last also, so I don't need to change them as frequently. I've used other highly rated tires and always come back to Vredestein.

Road riding in Oregon coast can be very wet and windy , this tire holds the road in both of these conditions. Over all ride is comfortable, I ride at 110 lbs and they have held up well, 1300 miles on this set and counting , very happy no flats yet! Will buy these again.

Great Performance and reliability

Let me start off by saying, I love these tires. I have been riding these tires for probably 5 years and I have never been disappointed with them in any way. They have good flat protection and roll very nicely due to the higher inflation pressure. I'm a big guy so I need all the help I can get! 6'3 208. Dependable is the word that comes to mind when I talk about these tires, I've only flatted 5 times in the time that I've been using them. They wear pretty fast if your're a clydesdale and pump them up to max, but they are considered race tires so go figure. About 2000 miles before they need replacement. I think they're probably the best tire for the money, in comparison to Conti's Michelins and Vittorias.

Top of the line race tires.

The price can be high for these, but they are worth every penny. I've tried Conti 4000's and others, but I've had the best of luck with these. I used to get a lot of flats, but I now have gone months at a time without flats. (The roads I train on are notoriously bad for glass, metal)

Excellent Tire

Vredesteins were the first performance tires I ever tried. Right away I noticed a big difference .... especially while going into curves on a downhill. What a pleasure . I get about 1200 miles on a back tire. Depending on BTD's prices I either buy the Tri Comps or the Michelin Pro 3s. I've also used the Vredestein Fiammante Duo Comps with success .... however they're performance is not quite as good.

Excellent Tires

I do club rides of 40 to 60 miles and have put over 2000 miles on these tires. The rear is now fairly worn with a couple of minor cuts, but I could still get another 200 miles or so out of it. Have had only two flats during this time, which I am satisfied with considering the condition of many roads that I ride on. The tires also seem faster than my previous Armadillo elites (I swear I've added 1 mph on my average) and handle the corners really well. Already purchased my second set and looking forward to another season of riding them.

Love these tires!

I now have almost 2000 miles on the tires and I've only had one flat. The front is hardly worn but the rear is starting to show some wear in the center along with a few tiny cuts. I should be able to make through the season. Also, I noticed how much quicker these tires feel compared to the Specialized Elites I were previously using. I'm sold on them.

Smooth, supple ride on nice-looking tires!

I bought two 700x25s in black and the first time I rode them I thought, Wow, these are some smooth tires! These could be my new favorite tires. They are not quite as smooth and supple as the Conti GP 4000S I've ridden for the past 2 years, but on sale were quite a bit less expensive. For the money saved, I can live with the small difference.

The tires were very hard to mount on my DT Swiss rims - but all tires seem to be, so I put that off to the rims. I dread the possibility of flatting on the road, because changing the tire without my Kool Stop jack would be a bit of an ordeal. But once on, the tires are lovely with their clean look and understated badging - no screaming adverts here - I like that!

With only about 1,000k on them so far I can't say much about longevity yet, but they look like they'll hold up will. I do wish they had wear indicators like the GP4000s do - such a simple thing that I don't understand why all tires don't have them.

Bottom line - solid tires - the positive reviews that precede mine convinced me to try them, and I'm really quite pleased I did!!

The Vredestein Fortezza TriComp tires are for me the standard for which the others are measured.

Vredestein Fortezza TrComp tires came on an Independent Fabrication custom road bike that I bought several years ago. I ride hard in the wilds of northern New Hampshire and the road conditions are not always the best. I really like the positive road feel and the durability of these tires. I make mountain pass (called notches in NH) descents in various weather conditions with confidence. I have had flats with these tires for the normal reasons. I have have no side wall failures, no snake bite type flats, or any design type issues. The tires wear well. These are performance type tires and I expect to get 2000 miles. I remove, inspect, and replace tires as needed on monthly basis. I have tried the various other top name brands and returned to Vredestein Fortezza TrComp tires.

Second set

I am about to change to my 3rd set of Vrdestein Fortezza's. The first set I bought lasted me an entire year with no flats. I'm thinking they might have been DuoComp though. There are two cuts on my rear tire so I'm changing to the new set. I've had 2 flats in the last month or less. Granted, we ride on bridges here in Florida and there is a lot of glass and other debris so I can't blame it all on the tires. I love the ride they provide and they corner great. I'm not sure any brand bike tires are truly going to stand up to road debris so if you put that aside, these are great tires.

I use this tire for everyday use, club rides, and charity rides. Not the lightest tire out there but I don't race so it's an all around everyday tire for me with good durability and wearing especially since I'm 215 lbs.

Great cool weather, High PSI road tires

I've been a Vredestein fan for years. I've ridden al the major quality race tires from Michelin, Continental, Hutchinson, Panaracer, and Vittoria.

The Vredestein's have the best combination of long wear, great grip, smooth rolling, and high PSI.

Except in hot weather - Then the soft rubber is prone to picking up small stones, pieces of glass, and the like. The inner casing doesn't puncture, but a small bulge erupts where the outer case has been compromised. I've had to replace both front and rear tire after about 1000 miles. There's still plenty of tread life but I can't feel confident after identifying these cuts.

I love the tires and can heartily recommend them for cooler weather riding.

Nice tire, glad to have em on my bike.

Nice tire for a bit of speed work. I picked up a pair during the Gold Deal discount, wish I would have picked up a couple more sets. In the last 400 miles that I've had these on I've had a flat in each. For the roads I'm on, that's pretty darn good. First one was sort of a mystery but the second was because I got distracted and hit a large rock at well over 20mph. That tire still held for half a mile before deflating. Changing these on the side of the road is a snap. I'm very happy with the TriComps.

Flat on second ride

The tire has nice characteristics for racing but I would hesitate when using as a training tire. I had a flat tire with this tire only after my second 50 mile training ride. Whereas a had not had a flight in the previous five years with Continental Gatorskins. I'm back to using Gatorskins for training rides and would consider TriComps for races

Great tire for the money!

I bought these a couple of years ago in yellow to go with my red bike and yellow handlebar tape and I have not been disappointed. I am on my third set and they roll well and last longer than the Bontragers I used to ride. I recommend them without reservation. I live and ride in Iowa where roads are generally rough and the city streets I take to get out to the country are filled with holes. These had held up nicely under these conditions.

Great Value

Used on a road bike, not on my racing wheels though, and have a couple of thousand miles on them. Wearing well and performing well ... only annoyance is the little nibs that stick out the sides of the tires ... doesn't affect performance but they look weird. Takes some time to cut them off ... Overall, got a great deal on these tires at BTD and glad that I got them.

They certainly don't ride as well as my favorite tires, Vittoria Open Corsas, but they ride decent, get good mileage, have relatively low rolling resistance and they DONT'T FLAT! Open Corsas flat all the time, my Tricomps have not had a single flat in an entire year of riding.

Tire separated at the bead

Usually have had good luck with these tires. Last set I purchased had a 6 separation along the bead while riding. The road conditions were rough and my tire pressure was 110 psi. The tires had less than 500 miles on them. Maybe a fluke but has this ever happened to anyone else before? for my next event I am trying a new tire.

Good racing tires, but not good for training unless you like getting cuts in your rubbers

I bought these thinking the high PSI would make a good racing tire roll. Well they do,.. but at the cost of picking up debris and getting nicked up. The tires roll good and handle good... but upon inspection (after 200 miles or so) they sustained some pretty good damage from road snot. I'm finishing the season with them but limit them to race days. Not good tires for training with as the rubber is too soft.

I bought this tire for training and wish I would have considered how it would wear. I used it for about 500 miles before it flatted out twice in a week. (please keep in mind that I tip the scales at 210, so it might work better with lighter riders). Right now it's hanging in the shed waiting for a good reason to bring it out.

So far so good

I am a little disappointing that once I was recommended these tires by a fellow cyclist, i cam to find that they didn't have them in a berserker green to match my bike so i had to make due with a white trim. I have only had these tires for a few weeks. I haven't gone on any major rides but I commute to work every day and the road is full of pot holes and other junk, and so far they have held up pretty well. If they last a year, ill be happy.
