Vittoria Corsa Evo CX Tubular (320 TPI)

I bought this tire earlier this spring for my race wheels. As the product description says, this tire gives you a supple ride. You can put more pressure in for less rolling resistance without feeling like the tire is bouncing around on every bump in the road. However, that is in the dry. When wet, I found the tire adhesion lacking. When it started raining in a criterium this weekend, I had this tire (on the rear wheel) slide out twice in a corner. Fortunately, I was able to keep it upright both times, but I won't be riding this tire in a wet race in the future.

Super duper fast.

There may be some truth to the slippery when wet rumor... I have crashed these in a rainy crit, now that I think about it. But I am a crasher. I've probably crashed every tubular we carry ;)

The main reason I'm writing is to say the tread is directional! You fellow drifters out there, make sure you've got them on right. In our photo above, that tire is rolling towards you.

On my tubular race wheels, I use Vittoria Corsa Evo 320 tpi tires. On a set of clincher training wheels, I use Vittoria Open Corsa Evo 320 tpi tires with latex inner tubes to approach the same feel. In both cases, the ride is close to perfect. Much more enjoyable than other tires that come in both tubular and clincher versio (Michelin, Specialized, Continental, etc). Besides the nice ride quality, another benefit is the pretty low rate of flats. And for both the tubular and clincher Corsa Evo, I have been lucky with flats in that Vittoria PitStop allowed me to be riding again in just a few minutes.

With a a total bikerider weight of 150lbs, I am using the 21 section tires frontback (115120psi). I find the ride to be quite pleasant. There is a drought in Texas so I can't comment on the wet weather handling but in dry conditions, these babies handle superbly and especially when descending. They are very easy to mount and true requiring virtually no seasoning (stretching by inflating on a spare rim). At this point I only have about 300 miles on a pair but despite their light weight (about 245g) have had no problems with flatting (despite proliferate discarded beer bottles). The removable valve stem is spiffy for deep section rims (get the extenders up front though). Only down side for me is that the latex tubes need to be inflated once a day. I used to be a conti-only guy but not after using these Vittoria's.

These tires have a fantastic ride and are very easy to mount even without pre-stretching them. They center quite easily on the rim and don't require much work to get them just right. They also seem to be fairly durable tires despite how soft the rubber is.

I lose 40psi over a 24 hour period, but that is to be expected with latex tubes.

The only downside is wet traction. After racing a crit with several damp corners, I had the rear tire slide out several times while not even going hard through corners. The rear tire was slipping enough that I looked down to make sure I wasn't getting a flat. In the future, I won't be using these tires in crits unless the pavement is perfectly dry.

These are great, supper supple, but they do flatcut easier than most. These are race day only tires, and not the greatest in the wet. If you have firecrest rims, get the 25c.

This is a very nice racing tire but not a good training tire. You will lose significant air pressure (up to 60 psi) in a day due to the latex tubes. Be careful not to over twist the valve when attaching back to the tube as this can cause flat issues later on. I wish Vittoria would not use this valve technology as it will require you to drop dollars on new valve stems if you have anything over 32 inch rims. Plus, their cores do not remove so using Tufo sealant is out.

I have read mixed reviews about this tire in the rain. I raced them in one very wet crit and went all over the place. However, I personally believe the issue was way too much air pressure versus the tire.

I run the Vittoria EVO CX on my race wheels and I have been nothing but pleased. It has great grip and rolls smooth. I have run continental prior to this tire and always had cuts and nicks that eventually led to the failure of the tire. Vittoria I have been able to run until its square. This is a great race tire, but if you are looking for a less expensive option for training this is not for you.

A few months ago, when I decided to order my dream bike, I also had to decide whether or not to take the plunge and go tubular. I have over 3,000 miles on my Corsa Evo CX Clinchers, and if I were to take the plunge and buy tubular wheels, I knew it would be with the same tire in tubular form. I watched every tubular installation video, read every forum blog, and talked to everyone I could on club rides and in bike dealerships to help me decide, and I took the plunge. The Vittoria tubulars make my bike ride as smoothly as a ride in a luxury vehicle. I can't imagine ever going back to clinchers. Sure, a tubular glue up isn't for everyone, but for any involved bike enthusiast, having a part in creating that ride is worth the time and energy. There may be other tubulars out there just as capable, but if you too decide to take the plunge, there is really no reason to look much further than the vittoria Corsa Evo CX. Enjoy the ride!

I've been riding tubulars since the 1970's and know this tire is comparable to the Clement Campianado del Mundo that many of us had the pleasure of riding in the 70's. Some of my fondest memories of cycling through the mountains of Northern California were on those wonderful tires.

This tire has that same swoosh sound and contact feel that only really good tubulars express. I wish they lasted a little longer but I generally get at least a couple thousand miles from a set. I recently glued on a set of the wider 25mm black and decreased the pressure to 125 and am getting a euphorically plush ride with this combination. I highly recommend this tire to all you tubular afficianados out there. Ride On!

I had never ridden these tires before, but going from Pro Race 4 clinchers training to racing on Corsa Evo Tubulars is a night and day difference. These tires grip GREAT in the corners and are very comfortable on the rough roads. Would definitely recommend these to anyone needing tubular tires.

I use this tubular on Reynolds carbon wheels. The ride is fantastic and feels fast. B T D is great

One of the tires had a slow leak from where the stem meets the tire. They replaced it for me quickly!

Race tires...well they are tubs. Look great, feel great on the road. I have them on multiple wheels and have used them them succesfully i.e. with no flats on spring races like Banana Belt where there can gravel on the road.

Use them for racing on deep rim Zipp wheels. These tires were an exceptional value at their price. I would buy them again

I ride only tubulars and this is the only tubular I ride!

Been using these for several years, just an all around good racing tire, on par with the Hutchinson which is another favorite. Tried the 25c version of this and like it for crits where the bigger contact patch adds a bit of traction. Full retail is a bit painful but on sale it's a decent value.

A great tire for dry, bumpy roads that you need the extra width to soft the ride. For some reason the rubber does not like wet.

I love these tires and have been racing and riding them for years. It was disappointing that they changed the valve stem. It's way harder to add a little sealant with them glued.

I use the 25mm version for racing only. The ride is plush and fast, and the tires handle great. They lose an incredible amount of pressure over night (40 lbs plus) so would be a poor choice for tri racers who have to leave their bikes in T1 overnight and won't have a.m. access to reinflate. Pressure loss was so dramatic that I shot a can of Pitstop into each tire to be sure I didn't have a leak. I didn't, and the tires still lose pressure. Also, the valve system is weak compared to say, Tufo's, so it's hard to get a good seal with extensions. In addition, the base tape is extra thick around the valve, so it's super hard to avoid a hop (I don't want to drll out the inner valve opening in my carbon wheels). Given the price of these, Vittoria could-should come up with a decent valve system that is extension friendly, make the base tape a consistent thickness, come up with a tube formulation that doesn't bleed air at a ridiculously high rate. Rants aside, these tires feel better than any other I've tried, and roll fast. Too many negatives though - I'll be going back to Tufo Elite Ride tires on my next go-around.

FULL DISCLOSURE I'm 240lbs riding carbon tubulars. Some would say why bother? well I like tinkering with my bike and had a chance to get some carbon tubbies for cheap. I got these in a 25mm size since I'm a heavy rider. Got a good deal on these tires and the ride feel with them is great, however i seem to get something in them EVERY ride I do. Now I know part of that may very well be that I've just got so much weight on the bike or it could just be a lot of bad luck. I've tried using sealant which is a crap shoot. SEalant just doesn't seem to work too well when you need to go over 100psi. I won't bash the tire as I understand that it's really just probably not that ideal for me

The tires are great. The problem is the valve stems. If spend this much on tires, I expect that I will not be charged an additional amount for a proprietary part to make them work on deep rims. Had i known about the valve stems i would have bought another tire set.
