Shimano's most popular MTB shoe gets an update for even better performance and style, while still managing to hold on to its entry-level price tag.

Like its predecessor, the M088 is perfect for recreational mountain bikers, commuters or touring cyclists. The upper is made from a blend of synthetic leather and mesh that's durable and stretch resistant yet highly breathable. The precise fit is complimented by dual off-set straps and a micro-ratcheting buckle which secure the shoe firmly in place. The Volume+ toe box provides plenty of room up front and the stiff glass fiber reinforced nylon sole helps transfer power from your foot to the pedal. Shimano's high traction sole lugs provide excellent grip on a variety of surfaces.

The SH-M088L MTB Shoe is available in Black/Red and accepts standard two bolt MTB cleats. Claimed weight: 676g. This the standard width. A wide version is also available.

Comfortable great shoe

I use it on my road bike so I dont have to scrape my cleats when I walk and its easier to get into my road pedals.

Value priced MTB shoes

Good fit, nice shoes for the price. They don't seem really substantial and am worried how they will wear. But, I bought them for limited use with a cross bike. So far, they are doing the job well.

Comfortable and stiff at a good price

I used the SH-M086 shoes for a few (4?) years and decided to get these as the tread became worn and some of the fabric began to rip. I believe this new version is much more comfortable, stiffer, has a better tread pattern and maintains the same sizing as the old version. Shimano shoes fit me well and I use them for both road and mtb.

I am not sure why other users feel the sizing is off. I wear size 44 in Ecco dress shoes and a 44 in Shimano cycling shoes. For inexpensive sneakers I tend to wear 10.5 US. My feet are a standard width, I have high and stiff arches, my big toe is somewhat shorter than the next toe over, and Specialized BG shoes cause me both foot and knee pain. Your feet may vary.

Comfortable shoe. Take care with sizing, though

I have very large feet, and don't usually have much choice in the shoes I can get. I often have to settle for less-than-comfortable. But I really like the way these shoes feel. Nice and snug with the ratcheting buckle, but no pressure points.

One caution, though, for my big-footed brethren and sistren. In my opinion, the Euro sizing for this shoe is a little off. I always wear a size US 15, which usually corresponds to Euro 50. For this shoe, Euro 50 aligns to US 14.2. I tried the 50, and it was too small. The Euro 51 fit nicely, though.

Works great for me.

I liked my SPD-equipped sandals, but I wanted to try a shoe that wouldn't let my feet slide around inside as much. I went with the mountain bike version of this shoe rather than the road version because I'm a recumbent rider and I need the grippiness of the mountain bike sole when I put a foot down when stopped. These work perfectly - stiff sole, excellent fit adjustment, and I can walk around off the bike without clacking. And the price is right - as good as these shoes are, I can't help but wonder what kind of gold plating goes into other brands selling for three times as much.

Nice shoes. Roomy toe box.

Keep in mind that Shimano seems to run one size bigger than other shoes. I usually wear a 45 but wear a 46 in these.
