The Michelin Krylion Carbon is a training tire optimized for long life, but it provides enough performance that it would be a good choice for someone looking for a durable racing tire. It features a smooth ride, low rolling resistance and incredible durability. The Krylion casing incorporates five casing plies under the tread to resist punctures and road damage therefore improving the tires longevity (5000km on average). The carbon reinforced center tread resists small micro cuts and increases mileage considerably over the Pro3 Race. Folding bead.

Best tire ever........really!

When winter hits throw on a pair of 700x25 Krylions, pump 'em up to about 100psi and look forward to trouble free riding in the worst weather. Krylions are as durable as any tires out there, and Michelin's race proven tread compounds provide great traction. Many ultra-durable tires come up short in the traction department, the Krylion is absolutely bomb-proof while still holding the road like a race tire.

I have a flat curse!!

I'll admit I was hesitant to try tires lacking a huge amount of flat protection, but some of my co-workers love these so I bought a pair in April about 1200 miles ago and I've only had 2 flats! That may be a personal best. I've also started racing recently and am becoming more daring with my cornering, which these tires really do well with.

Excellent tire, durable

This is an excellent tire and you will get a lot of miles out of it. It is puncture resistant and the tracking is terrific. I get about 3,000 miles out of them before I replace them. I ride many centuries a year and sometimes commute to work. I've ridden on rough pavement and through glass and debris and I rarely have a flat. You won't find a better price anywhere. Buy 'em, you won't be disappointed.

Great Tires

I have used these tires for a number of years and they never fail me. I have tried other brands at times and find the others flat and do not roll as well. These tires I have rarely flatted and the roll well. In addition I can usually get a good 3,000 miles out of a pair. If you are looking for a great workhorse tire that handles well and wears well this is a great tire.

Michelin Quality

After reading the reviews I decided to try these tires. Krylions definitely have lower rolling resistance than the Conti's they replaced and a smoother ride too. Patience was required in order to mount because they fit my wheels tightly, lubing the beads with liquid dishwashing soap made the task easier. Worth every bit the extra effort though, this is an outstanding tire, like riding on a cloud yet very responsive. I'm gonna buy a second set just to have around, I really like these tires.

Incredible Road TIre!

I was having problems w flats on my Cannondale Synapse 3. I had two flats in one ride on a wide country road! I thought that it may be the stock tires... So I checked some reviews from bike mag sites & came to Bike Tires Direct to purchase. I've waited a month before posting my review to have plenty of ride time on them...

These tires are incredible! Unlike some 'reinforced' tires, these give a comfortable ride, yet are amazing in helping prevent flats... I have been over potholes, rough roads & over sharp stones that SHOULD have caused a flat... what happened? NOTHING! My bike kept rolling along....

These tires are everything other posters have said they are & more!

Great high mileage training tire with low rolling resistance.

I rarely write reviews, but these tires are great and deserve my praise. After burning through some Bonti Race Lites in 1200 miles I was looking for a training tire with long wear and good weight and rolling resistance characteristics. After reading many reviews here I chose the Krylion 700x25. No disappointments I rotated them only once and have 4000 miles on the pair with NO FLATS. My front tire will probably go another 500 miles. If you race and corner aggressively you'll probably need to replace them earlier, but I am riding long strait country roads in Michigan and don't mind a tire that's a little squared off. The only drawback is they don't grab a wet road like a softer tire, but I typically don't ride in the rain, and I corner carefully if I get caught out. Otherwise, I found the traction so good I use them year round.

Great feel but weak casings

I bought these because I thought they'd be a durable alternative to the Pro2 and 3.

I love the road feel and grip. BUT, I have had repeated problems with cuts and ruined casings. I hate throwing out a tire after 100-300 miles, especially an expensive one, but I have had to do that 4 times with these tires!!!! The casings don't hold up in conditions other tires do. And yes, I run them at 105-110 psi, so it isn't an inflation issue. I am going back to the Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp.

Excellent road tire

I ride in the dark and in the rain so I can't see all the glass and other debris in the road. I'm riding over broken glass and who knows what else every ride. The Krylion holds up to this abuse well. There are some small cuts in the rubber at this point about 700 miles but nothing like what I experienced with the Bontrager Hardcase tires. The Bontragers would pick up small rocks in the rubber and I would have to stop to pick them out because the ka-bump ka-bump would drive me nuts. This rarely happens with the Krylions and the wet road traction is at least as good.

Impressive durability and performance

This has been my favorite tire for the past two years. After trying several other performance tires, I tried these on the recommendation of BikeTiresDirect. I do a lot of riding around the country and in Europe and these tires have handled all road surfaces well. I typically get over 2000 miles on a set which, considering the excellent traction and handling, is quite remarkable. Unlike other reviewers, I haven't had any tires fail from casing tears. I do notice small cuts in the tread, particularly if I do a lot of riding on chip-seal roads, but these have not affected durability or handling. Highly recommended.

Another bad casing

Here's an update about casing problems. I'm still using up a bulk buy of these tires. Had my summer bike out today and at the end of the ride noticed an eraser sized bulge right in the middle of the tread on the back tire. No cuts in the tread at all, but when I removed the tire to toss it, I found a separationrip in the casing from the inside. Now the tube was still inflated before removal, so there couldn't have been any debris inside the tire. The casing was just weak. What if the tire had blown on a 30 mph downhill? DO NOT BUY this tire!

Very good tire

I have not had the bad experiences that a few other reviewers had. I've used these tires for years and find them very durable, with low rolling resistance and good grip. Sure, I've had a few flats but most were my fault because I did not stop and check the tire after going over some glass chips. Eventually, these chips penetrated the tire and pop!

I get about 3000 miles, without rotation.

to many cuts!!!

Yes, these tires are cheaper than Conti's, but not in the long run when they only last half as long. Yea, they feel great, roll very nice, but they look like swiss cheese after only about 800 miles. I have found tiny slivers of glass and tiny pieces of gravel in the tire, just way to many holes that I just do not trust them. If I was a big rider and pumped them up to their max PSI, they would blow. Now I still have not gotten a flat with them, nor will I cuss I'm retiring them to my indoor trainer. If you want a great road training tire Conti 4-seasons 23c or 25c depending on rider weight. A great middle of the road tire, not the fastest, not the most durable, but a little bit of both.

UPDATE from 1009 - new tires made in Asia

I wrote a review last fall about how I loved these tires. Still do although now that they are made in Asia they are not the same tire that came out of France. I have one of my first pair still on my front wheel with over 5000 miles on it 700x25. I replaced the rear tire at about 4000 miles with only one rotation with a new Asian Krylion and can tell that I won't get the same mileage out of it. My guess is I'll get 2500-3000 if I bother to rotate them, and can live with them a little squared off. I still think these tires will be my standard though because I have NEVER flatted since I put the first pair on. Do they have some cuts? Yes, but I am still not getting flats, and the Asian tires still roll great and grip well. I run them about 98 psi front and 102 rear for a compliant ride with no problems I weigh 175. I ride good rural roads and can dodge most obstructions without fearing being hit by passing cars. If you have similar riding conditions I'd give these tires a try.

Michelin tires, not what they used to be?

Unfortunately, my sentiments have come to mirror the existing negative reviews for this tire. The issue here is in the manufacture of the tire, either because of low quality materials or poor workmanship. When spending $40 for a tire a certain level of quality is expected . After only 200 miles my properly inflated tire is showing significant cracking. ironically in all other aspects this tire has performed well. This is the first time that i have been disappointed with Michelin products.

Excellent training tires

I absolutely love these tires. I ride in the mountains and canyons of Utah, and these tires handle the gravel that washes over the roads without any major cuts or tears. They have a very smooth ride and positive feel, - although they're not super sticky in the corners like race tires - but you'll find that with any longer-lasting tire. I have not experienced any of the quality issues that some others have discussed below. My experience is that these are first rate tires. Much better than the Bontrager hard case tires I had been riding.

Overall Good Training Tire

I have been riding Krylion's for a number of years and I have found them to be a good all around tire. They hold up for about 3,000 miles and have been fairly puncture proof. In addition I think they roll very well.

Beware...Not What They Used To Be

I have used the French made version of this tire for years. They gave several thousand miles of flat-free service and were virtually indestructable. Regretfully, since production of this tire was moved to Asia, quality has slipped precipitously. With my latest pair of these, purchased in July, 2010, I got a flat on the rear on my second ride with them. Worse than that, the rear tire is squaring off after only a few hundred miles. Wanna know how fast they squared off? I purchased these online with my credit card, and they started to square off before I received my credit card statement in the mail!! They are also exhibiting numerous cuts, which the old ones rarely did. This is unacceptable in a tire at this price point, and I will no longer purchase these tires. And shame on Michelin for ruining what was previously a great tire.
