Texture isn't the best but they seem to work

It would guess eating sidewalk chalk would be similar to this product. But it helps you keep going at a good pace so I'd say its worth it. Most endurance products are a little gross anyway

Good source for fuel

Many people told me I would not be able to get them down when it is hot out. I found that just a sip of liquid makes them easy to eat and a sip after to wash them down.

Eh, not very good

I really wanted to like these, but I had a hard time eating them while cycling. Once you start chewing they form a pretty thick chalk-ish paste you have to continue to chew and swallow, and it just doesn't work well especially if you're moving fast and breathing hard.

I think I'll stick with shotblocks and gels.

Good results with a terrible taste

If you can stomach these they do really work. The taste is chalky and gritty, however, if you need nutrition on the fly they will give you a great lift.If they could make them taste a little better they would get 5 stars.

Prefer over the mix.

Use this occaisionally during long races as I don't like the mix. Not sure if it improves performance. Sometimes is hard to choke down! Smaller tablet size would be nice.

Works well, easier to chew than expected

I read a review elsewhere that these are like eating chalk and impossible to swallow, so I was apprehensive. That was totally inaccurate, as far as I am concerned. They are a lot easier to chew up than Sweet Tarts, for example. You can eat one without even taking a sip from your water bottle and still get it down just fine. The taste is fine (strawberry for me). It does not upset your stomach, even during heavy exercise. I went through three tubes of these during a long Leadville mountain bike race qualifier, and they kept me from bonking. (I also ate a powerbar and a couple of Hammer gels, which are also very good.) They are great when you don't want to mix up the powder Perpetuem and drink it that way.

This is a great product for chalkivores!

Although I really like most other Hammer products I've tried, these are pretty horrific. I bought them thinking they were a dissolve in water sort of thing, but it turns out they are horse-pill sized chewable tablets that have a degree of hydrophobia that a rabid dog could not fathom. Furthermore, when one attempts to masticate these chalk blocks, they dissolve just enough to form a new protective layer around your molars like so much cavity causing cement. I can't see these being an easy source of energy for ANY sort of athletic pursuit.

Like I said, I have no desire to badmouth Hammer, because I think they do very good work and make an excellent product, they just should've stuck with the drink mix when it came to perpetuem.

A good backup fuel

Lightweight and easy to carry, these make a good backup fuel for longer rides.

The texture isn't great because you chew instead of dissolve them, but taken with water these taste similar to normal Perpetuem. The chewable form also means they're easier to eat at rest instead of trying to consume while riding.

I like these best as backup fuel when I'm not sure how much I'll need or don't want the hassle of mixing powders as I refill my bottles - it's easy to toss a tube in a jersey pocket or bag.

There's also no risk of spoilage as with a mixed protein drink.

Not sure if they work because I couldn't swallow them!

I recently participated in a 600K brevet. I use Hammer perpetum while riding which works well for me. I decided to try these 'solids' at my 400K (250 mi) break. They tasted like chalk. I could not swallow them. I don't know if they work nutritionally but practically, I'll never rely on them.
