Good Street Tire For MTB

I have only put about 100 miles on this tire, but so far so good. I found that I was spending more time riding on paved roads than dirt trails with my MTB and wanted to convert to a street tire primarily to commute to work. This tire fit the bill and for a very reasonable price. I originally purchased the 1.25 tire, but it looked so odd on my large MTB frame, that I returned them for the 1.6, which is perfect the folks at BikeTiresDirect in PDX are great and very helpful. Did I mention their discounts and VIP Points are great too!

My commute with the old knobby MTB tires usually took about 29 minutes one way. The Geax Street Runner tire has trimmed that down to 20 minutes less rolling resistance, the 1.25 would probably ride even faster. I have not had a flat, even after riding over sharp gravel unimproved road and glassdebri shards on the city streets. I have not rode in wet conditions yet. I would recommend this tire for the urban rider. GEAX is a part of the Vittoria S.p.A Brand.

Terrific Value

Been riding for more than 50 years about 6000-7000 miles a year on numerous road tires. Just built a Surly Big Dummy with drop bars to replace my expidition GT which was also configured the same. The GT has very high quality expensive 2" tires and weights probably 6-8 pounds less than the Surly. I wanted a narrower tire to do everything I could to make this Big Dummy effecient on my long commutes or tour. I tried the Geax Street Runners and I can tell you they have the rolling resistance of a 32 mm road bike tire. I have accurate computers on both bikes and I actually make my same commutes I've been making for years in less time on the Surly Big Dummy than the lighter GT. The weigth of the Street Runners is also very desirable when you are looking at keeping it down. I did line them with Mr. Tuffy's but I use them even on the armored tires because I'm commuting through farm country at 0400 sometimes and don't want to fix flats in the dark. They are very very good tires to go far and fast and a perfect size at 1.6". I also have alot of experience with Michilen City's and they have terrific rolling resistance but not as much as the Geax. History shows narrower is always faster with all other things equal.

Awesome.

I purchased the 1.25 version of this tire. I only ride on the road, and I love it.

I went from a 45 minute to a 30 minute commute.

This tire is not made to see dirt or gravel, but it loves wet or dry pavement.

fast

Paved bike paths. Pissing off the road bikers I pass. Very loose on loose ground. But you'll love pavement.

Good So Far!

I recently switched my mountain bike tires from nobs to more of a street tire with this model due to my usage of it on paved roads. The tires respond quite well under speeds 15-20mph and do pretty well with less road resistance spins than the nobs do. Again, it is my first street tire for my mountain bike and although it is not built for road purposes it handles pretty well with these tires. I have taken the same road paths over with these tires and the difference is pretty significant. Mileage so far is 30 miles on them.

Great street tires

Put these tires on my Specialized Hardrock and they have been holding up well. Where I live the roads are mostly rough, with cinders and cracks everywhere but these have held up surprisingly well. The only thing you need to be warned about if considering these is they are very slippery in the rain. Other than that on smooth dry roads they are great and you'll love the higher speeds you'll get on your mountain bike!

Great tire for the price

All innercity use on hardball roads, great tire have over 500 miles on both, no flats and showing no real wear. for the money I'm still blown away how good they handel, and how much abuse they can take. will buy more as soon as I wear these ones out.

Not the smoothest ride...

My tires are both defective as in one section seems to be smaller than the rest of the tire and therefore makes it feel like you have a bent rim. It's not noticable when riding slowly but as soon as you pick up the pace it gets pretty shaky. Not happy with this tire. Hopefully I'll be able to exchange them.

Fast tire

I am only riding on the street these days so the old knobby tires on bike were totally out of place and too slow for a 32 mile a day commute. I picked up the 1.25 high PSI version of this tire and love them. These are a fast tire that has held well on wet or dry pavement but at 90-100 PSI you do feel every little bump. These are great road tires and worth every minute they knock off my commute.

Great Tire

I bought there tires about a week ago and at first I was really satisfied they are exactly what I wanted. These tires are perfect for turning a mountian bike into a daily commuter. But after rideing all around my city (like 20 miles) I ran over a small fragment of glass no bigger than my finger nail and poped my tube I know this is an easy fix it was just really anoying.

Tires popped on first ride

My novice buddy borrowed the bike with the fresh installed Geax street runner tires. He came back with 2 popped tires. He accidentally went thru a dirt patch and picked up a whole mess of rocks and spike balls. I thought the tires would be ok for street riding but I guess not. Strictly for payment only!

Super value on a good tire for my MTB, could not fine a better deal local to me.

I used the tire on my MTB to train for a MDS 150 mile ride. It turned out better than I thought, it was a great choice.
